My Dad worked for Silicon Knights back in 97/98, after this game was made, but Denis had shown him this particular secret, and he told me about it. I don't want to get into how much time I spent looking for it, but I obviously never found it. It popped into my head randomly and a quick google search brought me here. 25 years... 25 years !!! For 25 years I've been playing this game!!! One of my all time favorites ever created by man. Explored every nook and granny... followed every clue where some were true and others ultimately turned out to be a hoax... found all 100 secrets, even wrote a guide about them... I knew the HMCS Bitter was in the game files (as I had closely followed the development of Blood Omnicide) but I had NO CLUE that it's legitimately accessible?! Please excuse me while I search for my jaw on the floor 😱
Same. Did it in one day. One play through. Been playing Blood Omen since it first came out in 1996 and have been a Nosgothdotnet lurker since 2001. I achieved a very high prestige this time around and actually got the lightening spell which I usually pass on. What I've come to find is that discovering the bitter helps you out a lot during the end game quests if you are not using blood or magic refills, meaning you are playing legitimately. This was the first time I ever beat Blood Omen 1 without cheating and it actually felt kinda nice.

When I first played it i thought it was a chest that had to be moved from somewhere towards the first boss of the game, but it was just something to be blasted with TK from across the chasm in the same area. It had a life upgrade at the top. You don't want to know for how long I've been wondering what was up there and hot to reach it before I was able to play the game again and thanks to your guide, I found everything in game. @@noctisattano2593 Ah, I see! Glad I solved your mystery, hehe. That was always meant to be only a shortcut to get back up. You can actually glide there without needing TK.
@@RainaAudron Oh, nice. I remember back when I was a young teenager being unable to reach that place. Anyways, this year's walk through the game really showed me how great and sometimes ahead of its time the game was. I always knew the story, atmosphere, sound and voice acting were great, but now I got to admire the progression system, the exploration and level design. It puts to shame a lot of modern games. I never got to finish Blood Omen 1 (the only one I never got to finish), but I hope I will get some time to play it this summer. Looking forward to it. Will keep an eye on your videos for guidance.
Even with the figuring out of roughly where the "four corners of the world" would be on the revised map, I don't get how you could've possibly found this. Firstly, I would think that the invisible switches would be things you could walk over or be within "arm's reach", not something you'd have to trigger with an out-of-boundaries lightning blast. I would've just thought "Oh well, this must not be right place" and kept on futilely wandering around. Short of taking a step, firing lightning in all directions, taking another step, etc. (which would take a million years), I can't fathom how this was discovered 🤯
The ingredient you're missing is datamining. The Bitter was originally discovered in 2010 by extracting the maps from files, but that process also highlighted a number of unused triggers around the world, but it was unclear what they did or if they were just reflected cut content. Dyack's comments hinted that at least some of those triggers were related to legitimate access to the Bitter. By then it had been identified that three unused triggers were in the former corners of the world, so it was then just a matter of checking for unused triggers in the last former corner and checking to see if the activation of all of them did anything. It did. Fun story and very much a community effort.
There is a hidden ship, with 4 secret switch, secret entrance behind a random bar and all you get are basically healing potions? It blows my mind how people found this but the reward is kinda underwhelming 😧
And here I thought I'd found everything in the game, got the complete map and everything. At least now I've got another excuse to play Blood Omen for the 10'000th time
If they'd made them a slightly different colour, or left some kind of a clue like treasure map with switch coordinates... At least make it feasible for players to figure it out.
legacyofkain.fandom.com/wiki/HMCS_Bitter It's a secret pirate ship discovered in BO1's code about a decade ago. The creator said there was a legit way to access it without cheats - this weekend they found it.

I'm glad Soulreaver is getting some love, but I always wished Blood Omen/Blood Omen 2 got more attention. I know it's a touchy subject, but I'd love remakes that kept the lore intact but introduced some of the more modern combat mechanics. Game combat just hasn't felt the same since I first played Demon's Souls thanks to the free PS+ subscription they gave out when PSN went down in the early days of the PS3. Blood Omen 2 actually had a lot of the right ideas about combat (deliberate action over button mashing for speed's sake), but could be executed in a way that feels fluid (more Sekiro than Dark Souls). It even had timed blocking mechanics, something of a rarity on the PS2 (you could also just play with auto-block, which is a nice nod to customizable gameplay difficulty). Damn, Blood Omen 2 gets a bad reputation for a lot of technical issues (NONE of the dialogue is synced properly in the last cutscenes IIRC), but the mechanics and the thought behind them were all really solid and innovative for its time. It deserves the Resident Evil 2 treatment (except please keep the lore the same and don't fuck with my 25-year-old hobby. For the love of God, they've already fucked the lore of everything but this and Stargate (and I'm hearing rumblings of a Stargate reboot damn it) SO DON'T TOUCH THAT), and so does Blood Omen.
For anyone playing on PS5, I've finally figured out a way to make it look pretty decent: under the visuals settings in the emulator go to original format. It will appear tiny on the screen, but you can use the zoom in function on the ps5 (if think it has to be turned on in the accessibility settings of your ps5). Then there are some different filters. Arcade modern does a good job of emulating that old CRT look that these games basically require. This is the only way to make the visuals look good on ps5.
Something tells me that they ran out of time during development to fit this area into the game, so they left it in the game files and put in a way to access it that they thought no one would ever find
I had already pressed a couple switches, so when it came time to do them all I didn't know which ones. I took a couple hours before I got them all pressed. I learned to make sure to press them all at once, cus you can't see them, so if you forget which ones you got, good luck. Really cool secret, too bad it has to be done so late in the game.
What kind of secret is this? An unfinished level left in thw games code? Or an intentionally hidden one? I don't even remember there being a mention of a ship, and I looked up the map, doesn't seem to appear anywhere.
If you look up "blood omen hcms bitter" on youtube, the first videos posted about it's discovery are only 2, a couple of years ago (yours is one of them, were you the one to first discover the secret switches?). I know how to get out of bounds around williams stronghold i always wondered why it made the button sound when i walked on top of it. You walk on the right edge of the cave that you use to get to williams stronghold to get out of bounds.
You can hear the switch lock noise when you hit it. Don't know if you can relock the switch by hitting it a second time tho, alot of switches can't be re-triggered. Could always try, if you do you can probably just hit it again.
That's not possible. If you only have the first disguise form, you will not be able to enter Willendorf Castle. Only Willendorf Castle can lead you to the land of Nemesis where the fourth switch is located. I just noticed this while doing my speedrun.
The original game creator also give hints about they were hidden switches that required the player to hit them with Energy Bolt on their Deadhaus Sonata stream if I'm correct. After finding 3, someone noticed that they were on each corner of the map and last one was found.
How do you open the door to access the 4th switch? I found out the hard way that this switch is missable once you progress past that point :( I'm going to have to start the game from scratch to access it.
@@zachboardman736 For me it was using the time streamer device to fight the tyrant. I can't figure out how to open the black door to get into the enemy camp
Whahuh? How would anyone find those or even know where they would be even playing the game entirely? They are basically look like nothing but parts of normal structures or forest? Like invisible pretty much. Strange. Never heard of a ship in the game before. I have a new challenge to play it all again! But, i still have to fix my PS1 laser rails first. I actually started playing Blood Omen again a few years ago but the PS was balking so much and stalling i just got mad and put it away. Lol and then life got in the way and i never had time to deal with it. Sucks. I need to fix both my ps and ps2. I bought a bunch of old games awhile back and even got some of the LoK and Soul R. sequels that i never played before, and still havent got to play them after like 8 yrs +. Lol I dont know if i even have the patience and motivation to muster through the original Blood Omen again. Man it was pretty infuriatingly mindnumbing at times with some of the bosses and controls were sometimes crap when ya had to be able to move fast and ya lagged.
The problem was even with the hint being 4 corners of the world, it was hard as the maps were re-arranged before the release, but luckily with the alpha/beta build discovery some fans put two and two together :D If you can, I would suggest to play BO1 on pc with Verok´s patch. PS1 has horrible load times.
nothing strange about it, the ship is cut content. they made a ship and a scene where it sank after a battle but cut it from the game. so then one dev is like: you know what, im going to add a way, no normal player will ever be able to get to the ship, but if you know the way, you can still access it. its just cut dev content

I love Blood Omen 1, but I will not be bullied by the game end rankings to fiddle around with it this much to get a rating better than Princess... Yes, it does add a lot of replayability, but life is short and I'd rather just go through the story bits and then go for Blood Omen 2... 100 secrets was excessive. I wish they just made the game longer instead. I never expect the Nemesis to show up so quickly, no matter how many times I play through it(a lot) They definitely ran out of money way before they thought they were finished and just crammed a couple hours of gameplay into the last 30 minutes. The Dollmaker part feels like the end of act one out of three, not the 11th hour. ...I know what I'm talking about. I've been telling scary stories since I learned to speak. Legacy of Kain never could figure out pacing, but 1 was just atrocious in this regard.
Yeah the game is like less than an hour after defeating the dollmaker. I always liked the game veeery much but the end game is pretty dissappointing compared to rest of the game
@@Wilppu. Sadly, Legacy of Kain is a story of content cutting. Just look up how much was cut from Soul Reaver 1. It's a wonder they managed to make what was left into a coherent game.

You won't be able to get in without a walk through wall cheat if you do it that way. This is the only was to legitimately access it without cheating. The ship was only discovered by fans in 2010 and the triggers to legitimately open the door were only found in 2020
So, hold up. The secret was getting in, correct? Because I 100% remember seeing a ship from the outside as a kid. But never finding a way to get in (and, tbh, I was too burned with the game to try it)

So does this mean the ship wasn't deleted contect AT ALL, just that we hadn't discovered the secret to the easter egg?
Exactly!
@@RainaAudron that's honestly kind of amazing! XD Also reassuring because it means there's nothing to feel bad about us never having gotten to see because it was unfinished!
I know how to get out of bounds around williams stronghold i always wondered why it made the button sound when i walked on top of it.
You walk on the right edge of the cave that you use to get to williams stronghold to get out of bounds.
How the hel was this even discovered?! xD
How do you know if you hit the switch or not? And is it possible to relock the switch if you shoot it a second time? :/
You can hear the switch lock noise when you hit it. Don't know if you can relock the switch by hitting it a second time tho, alot of switches can't be re-triggered. Could always try, if you do you can probably just hit it again.
@@awesomebrand6122I think it does relock as its not opening for me and I think I may have done 1 or 2 of them more then once
Do you have to find the switch’s in this order or does it not matter witch order to activate them as long as the get activated
Order does not matter, just need to press them all.
😱😱😱
It would’ve been interesting to see what they would’ve said, if you went to the boat in your peasant or noble disguise.
That's not possible. If you only have the first disguise form, you will not be able to enter Willendorf Castle. Only Willendorf Castle can lead you to the land of Nemesis where the fourth switch is located. I just noticed this while doing my speedrun.
is this the retail or alpha versions
Retail.
how did people find these..
Through Bloodpill and deep gaze, hah!
@@GuitarJimbo past which point?
@@zachboardman736 For me it was using the time streamer device to fight the tyrant. I can't figure out how to open the black door to get into the enemy camp
@GuitarJimbo Ahhh yes, I've read people are saying he point of no return in the game is when you give the king the item from the dollmaker
Kill the doll maker, don't give the King the soul. A very small window.
Lol
I dont know if i even have the patience and motivation to muster through the original Blood Omen again. Man it was pretty infuriatingly mindnumbing at times with some of the bosses and controls were sometimes crap when ya had to be able to move fast and ya lagged.
The problem was even with the hint being 4 corners of the world, it was hard as the maps were re-arranged before the release, but luckily with the alpha/beta build discovery some fans put two and two together :D
If you can, I would suggest to play BO1 on pc with Verok´s patch.
Obviously this area was never meant to be found in normal gameplay. Those "switches" are invisible, and there's no clue that they even exist.
idk how old you are but old games were MUCH harder in the earlier days.
@@Ecuador413rox Much Harder is one thing, but this was just EXTREME in its level of "You'll never find this"

What is the meaning of HMCS bitter ? 😳
Do you mean the title? Her Majesty's Canadian Ship sailed by Captain Bitter.
@@RainaAudron Yess exactly ! Woaow ! Nice. Thank for the fast answer.👍
Is this on PC? It looks so sharp!
Yes!
idk this secret
So what is the point of a secret NO ONE COULD EVER POSSIBLY FIND
I not completed tbe game but please tell me these ship assets get used elsewhere in the game and didn't only get used for this secret on 0.0000000000000000001% of players saw
Nope, you can only see the ship in the secret area.
What a waste of a great tileset for something noone would find.
Well it was a common occurance to have whole areas being made, but that due to time and resources restraints, couldn't be finished, but they simply stood there in the game normaly unaccesible
Maybe the narrative/quest lines that would have allowed to reach this place was taken out of the game, or the scenario rewritten in a way that made no sens for you to visit this place.
The fact that one dev decided to make it even explorable if you found 4 secret switchs, w
Não sabia dessa
I didn't know that

I love Blood Omen 1, but I will not be bullied by the game end rankings to fiddle around with it this much to get a rating better than Princess...
Yes, it does add a lot of replayability, but life is short and I'd rather just go through the story bits and then go for Blood Omen 2...
100 secrets was excessive. I wish they just made the game longer instead.
I never expect the Nemesis to show up so quickly, no matter how many times I play through it(a lot)
They definitely ran out of money way before they thought they were finished and just crammed a couple hours of gameplay into the last 30 minutes.
This looks very much like a gameboy game
It did come out in 1996. 3D was still in its infancy then

its sad they didnt stick to this top down zelda view for the rest of the series, , but none the less its still the best one of the entire series by far, if you hadnt played it through then u are missing out brother, u owe yourself that much at least,
You haven't played many actual Gameboy games then haha, unless you mean the Advance or onwards.
Or you could just go to the secret entrance in the first place and avoid this jokester's ''tutorial''. Still, I have played this game through and through, at least 5 times. Found at least 65/100 secrets and I have never seen or even heard about this boat.
You won't be able to get in without a walk through wall cheat if you do it that way. This is the only was to legitimately access it without cheating. The ship was only discovered by fans in 2010 and the triggers to legitimately open the door were only found in 2020
this is better hidden than men who hide their porn folder
So, hold up. The secret was getting in, correct? Because I 100% remember seeing a ship from the outside as a kid. But never finding a way to get in (and, tbh, I was too burned with the game to try it)
