    This is so cool. I have the same greenhouse and it is pinned into the ground. I’ve had to replace the cover 3 times. The weather in UK and I guess it’s position, it gets K.O’d every year. I couldnt believe that yours is just resting on pebbles and you in UK too.

    Brilliant thanks. I’ve just bought a small set up to have a go. It’s by Kingfisher, 23meters of vinyl pipe and fittings for £5 bargain. I’ll no doubt need some other bits but it’s a start and it was very helpful to see your set up.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while but I did not know if the timer would work or not if it was being gravity fed, rather than through a normal pressurised tap. Now I know it will work I will be getting one this week.

      @@ChilliChump you seem to say you don't like these drippers any more in a more recent video, because the flow rate changes randomly. Was it these ones you were talking about ?

    • @ChilliChump
      @ChilliChump  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the gravity fed system like this, these drippers are just fine. When you can create a consistent pressure like I do with my current system, and with the number of drippers I have, the new style I use are better.

    Really clear and easy to understand 👌🏼 having new greenhouse go up this year (also UK) and don’t have an outdoor tap so will be using a similar method with rain butt and was looking into a drip irrigation method I could use to water the tomatoes/peppers/chillis in there - also have two Quadgrow kits and a chilli grow kit but plan to grow more just in grow bags for next year also, so hopefully this will do the trick! 😁 thank you for making it clear enough for me to understand! 😊

    If you can heat them during winter they’ll continue to fruit. Peppers and tomatoes are indeterminates, as I’m sure you know, and they’ll grow to the size of small trees if given enough time and room:)
    Great info! Cheers from Texas👍

      @ChilliChump  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try keep within the seasons...which in the UK is a pain but a good challenge! I have in the past setup a fully heated year round grow system but I find that is an extreme waste of energy. Also by having the winter months without growing, it gives me a little break before starting again....gives me time to get excited about it all! Have you watched some of my more recent videos, you can see my grow is substantially larger than in this video. I was rather limited in space at this house

    • @ChilliChump
      @ChilliChump  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kind of....if the emitters are all at the same height then the pressure should be the same across them all if there is enough head height and pressure to begin with. If there are varying heights then there will be varying pressure

    I don't know if you've ever heard of these ceramic probes which open their independent valves depending on humidity of the substrate. Saves a ton of water. Easy to calibrate.
    They shouldn't be too expensive, especially in bulk
    Tropf blumat ceramic probes are a good product.
    After 7 years, better late than never, I suppose.

    Hi, thank you for the video.
    What's the height difference between your two set ups? You say the first one is not high enough but it doesn't seem much lower than the 1.2m of the second one.
    Isn't there too much flow difference when the barrel is totally full and near empty?

      Read with Alex I think it is more important how many drippers or emitters you are running off it. with this particular setup I could get up to 30 emitters working effectively. if you raised the height of the tank you could certainly add more emitters. this year I have an even bigger system! will be videoing it soon

    How high can you pump the water if the water tank is full. I notice you can water plants at a level of 1 foot. Can you get enough pressure to raise the water to the pot hight?

    • @ChilliChump
      @ChilliChump  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's gravity fed. So the water source needs to be above the emitters. You need to get it pretty high if you want any amount of decent pressure though.

    Hi Shaun, are you still using this kind of drip feed or do you use a raspberry pi controlled one now? Also do you top up the water/feed with water, or wait until it's near empty and empty/fill with water-nutrient in your preferred dose?

    • @ChilliChump

      The height is more important than the tube length. The tube/hose can be pretty long as long as it stays at a meter or lower than the source

    Great setup ! Have you ever thought about raising your peppers off the ground and installing a second tier on the lower level?

    • @ChilliChump
      @ChilliChump  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there....I have actually completely changed out how I do this. When I did this setup, it was more as a proof of concept. I have gone fully automated now with Solare and pumps (have a look at my other videos). I think the gravity feed would still be a viable option, and by having another tier of peppers, I would probably expect to have to raise the water tank by quite a bit (to ensure the pressure is still enough)

      Hi Rich, you may want to have a look at my current setup: th-cam.com/video/RpdaaCLvpfU/w-d-xo.html
      Also, be careful using a small cheap pump. Problem is they are normally high pressure, but low flow rate. That isn't ideal for irrigation

      +League of Outplays hose end...mine is actually 13mm because it is the most common size here, but I would go bigger if I had easy access to that size. The end pipes connected to the drippers are 4mm...pretty standard for those.

    Any particular adjustable dripper brands you'd recommend? Wont the soil near the edges get dry? Does that even affect anything? (Complete noob here) Im looking for a solution for watering 25+ plants at work that are about 3 meters up on a 1x5 meter metal/wooden grate. I think we could put a slim 30 l water tank about 1.5 meter above it all on a beam. I'd prefer something simple and clever so we won't need bringing out a big clunky ladder and check up on stuff all the time.
