I adore these three. Bible is a whole-ass mood through the whole thing and Perth's expressions are just like "excuse the fuq". Ta is the most chill but still a mood. 10/10
Bible is so funny without trying to be, Ta's giggle is ADORABLE, and Perth is my bias, that laugh and sarcasm makes me smile so much ❤
For clarification, these words have weird transliteration situation in Thai. They're words from intermet era, and Thai people in society transliterated these words first using their own sense of sounds, but the Royal Thai Institute who make the dictionary came up with another version later with their own rule of transliteration. Basically, a lot of Perth's answers correspond with how Thai people write these words on the internet. Many Thai people think that Royal Thai Institute is crazy for all the weird spelling. RTI's rule probably is not having tone marker since English doesn't have tones, even tho a lot of thai people said it with tones. Another thing is probably the k/g thing. Thai people associate k with ค and g with ก sounds because of how similar it sounds. RTI probably made every k and g in the final consonant position into ก sounds based on phonetics. Phonetically, both ก and ค are a variation of "k": ก is closw how spanish pronounce k/c, and ค is like how english pronounce k. Bottomline is, Thai people write these words more with how they feel the word is pronounced while RTI probably have certain rule amd standard which the mass doesn't instinctly agree with.

Thanks so much for this explanation!!! I love learning abt linguistics (I'm taking a course next yr) and this helped me understand the context a lot more. I think a lot of languages have a similar thing with loan words, like korean and japanese (which I'm fluent in) where the spelling doesn't really match the pronunciation.
Wow, that's indeed weird. Tonal languanges need tonal markers. And as I've observed like with Chinese and Japanese (although Japanese is not tonal) foreign word expressions are mostly based on phonetics of the adopting country. I can imagine the confusion with spelling a non tonal languange like English for native tonal speakers. That's really weird.
@@ayane8050 korean and japanese are non tonal languange like English. The spellings will not be as confusing with tonal languanges like Thai and Chinese. But still for all of them, it should be based on the closest phonetic sound of the native alphabet. If what OP said about dropping tonal marks is true, then that's would be really weird and confusing.
@@flyingsnow2413 it's actually not that bad. In Thai, no tone markers mean you default to "no tone" or basically the first tone. The official spelling that RTI made for these loan word will simply sound like a monotone robotic speech when read by native Thai. In the more spoken language reading of the word there will be other tones involved and the non-official spelling reflect that. It's just unintuitive to do away with the tone markers for loan words when people in society always speak them with other tones than the default 1st tone.

Being a current subscriber to Perth's TH-cam channel, I already know I enjoy watching his content. But, he is totally the type to rise to the leader position when needed. Bible is such an introvert and Ta is shy being the youngest. Perth went all out to compensate and was so hyper, I got whiplash! 😆
I love Ta's self-confidence. He was so sure that he's an 8/10. And I love it when Perth discusses phonetics.
And then we have Bible, who was so unsure and "wins" and immediately defends everyone because no one was as good as expected.
English is NOT my first language so I know how difficult it is to learn a language and master spelling and grammar etc.

You can see the exact moment Bible's spirit left his body when he found out it was a Thai spelling game LOL! But good try to everyone, I don't know all the tonal marks for my language either.
This makes me, beginner-level Thai-learner, feel so much less bad about my difficulties in spelling of the loanwords. (I can also adjust to them being the bane of my existence also in the foreseeable future.)

To me, this was the funniest episode so far! As a foreign language teacher, I can totally relate with the struggles these three had to write the words correctly. Seeing their disappointed reactions was funny, but at the same time I was sorry for them! 🤣 Especially Bible and Perth, who seem interested in learning languages and couldn't understand why they were wrong. Ta was so confident at the beginning, but in the end he looked the least disappointed. Love all of them and hoping for a second part. 🙏 By the way, Thai seems pretty difficult to spell and write!
