1987 was the last year for those third generation GMC & Chevy C/K series half ton & three quarter ton two-door cab pickups, but the one ton two-door cab pickups on the other hand were still in production up through 1989, & same with the four-door cab pickups, seventh generation Suburbans, & second generation Jimmys & K5 Blazers except they stayed in production up through 1991. 1987 was also the first year for gasoline fuel injected motors & the C/K series was dropped & renamed the R/V series to make a distinction between them & the upcoming fourth generation C/K series pickups for the 1988 model year & to help others avoid confusion with the two different body designs produced from 1988 through 1991. From 1988 through 1989, two different body designs on the one ton two-door cab pickups were produced which were the R/V series & C/K series.
Rewind to 1973, the first year for those third generation C/K series pickups, seventh generation Suburbans, & second generation Jimmys & K5 Blazers. Also 1973 was the first year for an optional bigger cab pickup which was the four-door cab. The four-door cabs were only available on three quarter ton & one ton models with the long wheel base & the only pickup box that came with them was the 8ft long fleetside one. Unlike the four-door cabs today which are also available on half ton models with a shorter wheel base.
