Mortal Shell is a Game made by a Small Dev Team ( Indie ).
Regardless of Dev Team Size ( All Games are Subject to Critique ).
Mortal Shell is a Souls Like BUT also Not a Souls Like.
Mortal Shell has a Souls Style Look and Gameplay.
The Mechanics and Aspects to Leveling and Playstyle is Different to other Souls Games.
In Mortal Shell =
You Cannot Level Up Stats.
You Cannot Block.
You Cannot Jump.
You Only Get 4 Shells ( Classes ).
Shells have Fixed Linear Stats ( Fixed Health and Stamina Pools ).
You Only Get 4 Weapons ( Melee ).
Weapons can Only be Upgraded 5 times to Max Damage.
Each Weapon Has One Special Move.
You Can Harden to Block an Attack.
But Harden has a Cooldown.
You Can Parry But it Costs Resolve.
Special Move uses Resolve to.
Shells have a Limited Handful of Perks ( Mostly Kack ).
You can Get a Ballista ( Projectile Weapon ).
Map and Level Layouts Not the Best.
Bosses and Enemies just Walk.
Can Farm nearly Unlimited Mushroom Heals.
Healing Animation is Slow and Slow Over Time Heal.
Game is Much Shorter than other Souls Games.
Combat is Ok But also Feels off at the same time.
For a First Attempt at a Souls Game its Alright.
Will be Interesting to see What they do Next ( Souls Wise ).
The Games Concept is Good and Looks Alright.
But i think its Poorly Executed with Bad Design Choices / Ideas.
I Just Prefer the Traditional Souls Formula Regarding Build Diversity, Leveling System, Depth, Healing Mechanics.
Mortal Shell is Not a Bad Game, But i Dont Think its a Great Game Either.
It Is However Easier than other Souls Games.
