    What most of your viewers would really like to hear, is a direct comparison to your OB-X8 keyboard! Perhaps try taking some of your favorite presets on the OB-X8 and program them into the OB-X VST, and vice versa.
    I do hear some people say even the OB-X8 doesn't sound like their OB-X, but it sounds good to me.
    We're all curious how close this VST sounds to the real thing, and if we should consider the OB-X8 or if this VST will be equally as impressive when using "famous" OB-X sounds, besides the obvious that some people just prefer using hardware.

    The now available free original OBX preset bank is really nice too. I did mention this here before but it seems to have disappeared. This is a lovely VST for sure. Especially in unison doing a wild filter sweep. Only the hardware could do that up till now but they have nailed this in software so well now its just crazy. Earth shattering is an understatement.

    I have some VST Oberheims: OP-X Pro II, OB-Xd, OBsession, OB-E. But since I have my OB-X8m, I don‘t use them anymore - except the OB-E. That is the only case where software really does make sense because you can edit all 8 SEMs together and I‘ll never get the vintage 8-voice hardware for sure.
    GForce does a brilliant job with these VST synths, albeit many presets are drowned in FX.

    Nice review-summary Devin. No one who owns an Oberheim OBX-8 that they paid $5k for wants to compare it to the GForce OBX currently on sale for about $60 bucks because with good programming it's very close. If you have a GREAT A to D converter on your computer and some nice outboard gear, which you probably own if you bought a $5 OBX-8, you can set up a great studio Oberheim virtual synth sound. I matched some of the actual OBX-8 You Tube demos with the GForce OBX and they are very compatible-close in sound especially if you add effects on both. Where the hardware is nice is for immediacy, turn it on, grab a knob, play it, save it. It also makes a better You Tube video or performance prop and is enjoyable to own and play. Otherwise if you just need an Oberheim track in your production, load up the GForce and lay the part down and call it a day! (I think the actual hardware version now has binaural with its recent 2.0 update and poly aftertouch (MPE?) which may be the main difference between the GForce and the OBX-8. The Binaural adds a lot from what I have heard in the You Tube reviews of the 2.0 update).

      @JeromeDenanot ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@devinbelangermusic Hi, good idea about Serum, I've heard good things about it. I finally bought OB-X (10 times less expensive than an hardware 2 osc synth) and I started a nice song just using the first presets (I've plenty to discover) so it is an indication it sounds great. The sound is wide and deep, and it reacts like analog (pitch/portamento and filters react slightly differently on each key press). And a complex preset only uses 2 percent of my CPUs, I've more than 90 percent idle with 4 instances on Logic Pro (12 CPU M2 Pro).

      Honestly they sound pretty similar! But the UI and capability is very different. OB-E is deeper cause of being able to change each voice's parameters, but OB-X is much more immediate. SEM is kind of irrelevant in my humble opinion now, since OB-X can be run as a mono synth.

    just picked this up. Im not a VST guy - but as Im out of space for hardware.... I have a Prophet 6 and OB 6 (and a 3rd wave), and have often though about replacing them with the OB8x and P10... BUT I bake FX into patches and thats always put me off. I have a Fractal Axe-FX I use for outboard FX, but I cant synth ta to the P10/OBx8 to sync saved patches. So - this weekend I picked up a few things (used i Cantiable) to bring VSTs out to the Fractal, and Bring my hardware into VST FX. I picked up D16s Spacerec (physical space reverb) and Repeater (digital delay) , Liquid Sonics 7th Heaven reverb ( i haev a few free ones - Blue cats phaser, flanger, chorus - valhalla supermassive obviously) then for VSTs, Diva (getting older but a playground of subtractive synthesis), the Grandeur for Pianos (to supplement my RD2000s V-Piano sounds) and This....... I had intended on OBxD 3.0 (as I have - or rather had 2.0) but thats not a pay for not free, and this was practically the same price. First impressions - comparing my my OB6 particularly - its great..... and has similar differences that the OBx8 had when I spend a day comparing those two... Sure Its only got the single LP filter - not the 24 , or notch (which I love on the OB6) BUT..... It might have saved me swapping my OB6 for the OBx8 and faffing with off board FX. I also picked Equator 2 to expand the sonic possibilities of my Osmose.. but thats another story ;)

    • @devinbelangermusic
      @devinbelangermusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t want to debate lord this, seriously. I promise. But, if it were the case that all of these virtual analogs can sound the same, you are implying that every scientist and beta tester is operating on fraud or delusion. Further, what you are really saying is that thousands of people are all wrong and you are correct. Often times, the probability of that much coincidental error is next to nil. The odds of a single individual being wrong, especially when thousands think differently, is an almost total certainty. But, I love being right when the odds are down, so I’m going to agree with you. They are indeed all equally capable of emulating any sound and sonically uninteresting.

      @@andymakii7344 I wasn’t trying to bad mouth the software, just saying that all these “analog emulation” vsts sound pretty much the same to me, there’s nothing about one or the other that sounds “miles better”.
      If you don’t read the “fancy specs” in the VST’s description and you just listen to its sounds, you’ll probably not be as impressed. But if you read what the developers say then it’s easy to fall victim of the “power of suggestion” which is where someone tells you how superior something sounds, and you believe it and start hearing it too, just because someone said it (not because it actually sounds good)
      And with social media nowadays - one TH-camr says “wow this VST sounds so good so analog so realistic” and boom all their followers mindlessly believe it and start preaching the same thing on forums and stuff and then the people that read those forums start preaching the same aswell and there you go, now everybody is saying the same thing - because one TH-camr started it :D
      Again, I’m not bashing the software, just saying how there’s nothing amazing about it. Saying things like “wow this sounds so analog” - like, it doesn’t sound anymore analog than any other virtual-analog VST, they’re pretty much all the same and sound the same. There might be about a 5% difference between them

      @@devinbelangermusic I don’t use VSTis to emulate analog, so my favourite VSTs are samplers like Kontakt (probably my go to for anything as I have a huge library of samples) and I like the emulations of 90s romplers (Korg, Roland) and I have 1 effects bundle (fab filter) that do everything I ever needed

    Sounds nothing like an obx. I have an obx, and an obxa. Sounds like 149 dollars. Mine sounds like 14,000 dollars.

      I don’t think anyone really thought it was gonna sound 1 to 1, but it has its own unique sound. And at the end of the day people care more about the song itself, than the gear it was made with imo.

      But you are basically saying, it sounds as good as an obx. Just buy what you can afford, and stop coping.
