The #1 Pick Nobody Talks About

  • Less than two years ago the Magic used the first pick in the 2022 NBA draft to select Paolo Banchero out of Duke. We weren't fans of this pick and the time and one of the first videos we ever uploaded was about why the Magic shouldn't draft Banchero. Ever since that moment he has continued to prove us wrong so we decided to take a look about why nobody is talking about Paolo Banchero.

@@eltrollo7293 Well, hype isn't just about pick spot now, is it? Jokic was on a relatively quiet team. For instance, I can't recall Austin Reaves' draft spot, but, I'm sure it was quite low (if he even got drafted at all). But, given that he's on the Lakers, playing with LBJ, he gets significantly more hype than Paolo.
And all I'm saying is, it IS good for Paolo. At least, till he becomes an undeniable winner...like - you guessed it - Jokic.

The single-greatest development in Paolo’s game has come at the expense of Fultz.
When Fultz was out for 28 consecutive games Paolo was asked to become the facilitator and he now leads them in assists every single game. Mark that event as the turning point in the ceiling of Paolo’s true ability when you look back in a couple of years.
It would be fair to say that P5 was an average at best defender his rookie season.
Every aspect of his game has improved and it appears that Franz and Suggs are the likely driving force behind Paolo legitimately becoming a good defender in such a short time.
Same with his crunch time performance rookie season versus this season it’s night and day. The Wagner brothers/Team Germany and that Gold medal show that they win and Suggs has that same unwavering relentlessness and it has undoubtedly inspired Paolo to become his absolute best.

And teams really wanna nail this pick so the pressure is on and just the feeling having the first overall pick u wanna get a franchise piece obviously not all 1sts do that but thats like bare mininal expectation first overall pick always gets .. There really was no clear cut first pick at the time and having the first overall pick u wanna get the best player and not 76ers it and having the forsight to snag a real franchise guy and the guy in the draft ..well done ..

I would actually say Cade Cunningham is the least talked about first pick, Paolo was getting a lot of hype this year due to how good he’s played and how surprisingly good the Magic have been also he was an all-star this year so he’s clearly not underrated. Cade on the other hand is rarely talked about at all, I would go as far to say we hear more about Deandre Ayton and his play/antics more than anything impressive that Cade Cunningham does.

My "conspiracy" theory is that he wasn't accepted as the best talent from that draft class (a lot preferred Chet, which I can understand, but to have Jabari over Paolo I can never understand), and so people are still holding that against him. It sounds stupid but legit people from the scouting community hold on to their prior evaluations for a while and do not like to be wrong. Paolo will be a top ten player in the league one day, he's that good. He also has a clutch gene and lives for the moment.

As a Magic fan, we have to become undeniable. Keep winning until the league has no other choice but to market us and pundits have to at least give us lip service. Small market teams have it very tough, but sometimes things just don't tilt in your favor unless you produce results that no one can dismiss. That's what the Magic are doing this season and it's only up from there for the foreseeable future. Here's to hoping it can net us more national games so fans can discover that Orlando does in fact, have a professional basketball team.

If your in a small market & had a bad season the year before, you're not gonna get national tv games the next season. But next season they'll have a few more. That's just how it is. To be honest they are lucky they are under the radar bc the moment they aren't is the moment they can't sneak up on ppl. They get a chance to develop w/o expectations

Man these dudes were my fav nba content creators. Bruh your take on Paolo is amateur, get you don’t get to ever watch him, but yeah he’s built for the nba, todays nba. 37% from 3 is all you can ask for from a Pitt bull. That’s good enough, even for today’s nba. I don’t see Lebron droppin 40% from 3. I also just don’t see how you guys have Lebron as the goat. Anyone who sits down for a Jordan history lesson can dispute he’s the GOAT. Btw children, guys shot 40% from 3 in the 90s too, and if the game was predicated on 3’s back then you’d see the same shooting ability displayed as today

They don’t talk about Paolo because of Wemby. The media pushing wemby to be the face of the league after LeBron. Not saying wemby doesn’t deserve it but Banchero been living up to the #1 pick too but the media don’t hype him up because they want to promote Victor.

i hear about him decently often. i can’t remember the last time i heard anyone talk about markelle fultz - that’s much more of a forgotten number 1 pick in my mind. massive bust, but doesn’t get clowned on particularly often for it (not that he ‘deserves’ that or anything, just relative to nba discourse you’d think it would happen more frequently)

I think that it's because a lot of people realize that he was thrust into a tough spot right out of the gate. Being drafted to a franchise that already had two young potential (super)stars was a lot of pressure. Combine that pressure with the strange shoulder issue and the training staff messing with his shot, and it was a recipe for disaster. He's found a nice niche in Orlando, so that's the important thing.

@AndyKapp yea I think I understand what they were trying to say...but they're wrong if anything a midrange/slashing player has more room to flourish in a well spaced nba that's how sga play

Banchero is what Bennett was supposed to be. Shock number 1. Then because even he didnt believe he was supposed to be number 1, worked his behind off and now he's an all star in his second year. Even Chet and Jalen can't say that - Magic hit home run
