Everything in this demo is great: the pedal, the amp, the guitar as well. Super sweet combination! The playing instead…it’s stellar. Jack has quickly become my favourite guitarist on TH-cam, his phrasing is just incredible.
Wow! What a great OD. MXR is knocking it out of the park at the moment. I just got the Super Badass Distortion yesterday to replace my Custom 79 Badass Distortion. I might have to buy this too, and the Timmy, and the Duke of Tone. Well done MXR.
I just bought a Fat Sugar and it’s the OD I always wanted!!! Absolutely beautiful sound and response. I’ll probably buy this new OD too. Both are Guitar Center exclusives but I picked up the Fat Sugar at Anderton’s. 4:26 very tasty chord progressions.
This pedal is amazing. I've heard another demo showing it in a more high gain setting and it was AMAZING. I already have a Super Badass Distortion and it is my absolute favourite dirt pedal... I can certainly see myself getting this one too for a more transparent boost. MXR is killing it.
MXR, Boss, and EHX have been hitting it out of the ballpark these days with their pedal lineup. I’ve put this one on my must-have list. I have really enjoyed the oldie-but-goodie Badass Modified OD pedal, and it’s a great tube screamer mod-It’s in the same league as the Way Huge green rhino. Unlike many boutique counterparts, these are very accessible pedals-and they sound incredible to boot.
Damn 😮that really sounds great. I recently picked up the fat sugar and sba distortion and am blown away with the sound and versatility of these two pedals. I may pick this up and make it my low/mid gain tone. It’s weird, this year my board turned into an mxr board minus my sd1 which may step aside if I pick this pedal up. Thanks for the great demo.
Holy smokes... The playing in this video is friggin AMAZING!! I can't even remember what was said about the pedal...I was too busy watching the playing!
@@endezeichengrimm The MXR Custom Badass Modified O.D. It was a x-mas gift from my Dad, who got the recco from jack Pearson. I played it through a twin for years! It cut like a knife live. love your playing btw.
I use a 50 watt Plexi and even at a club I often need to use my attenuator turned down too much which darkens the tone and kills the bite and nuddys the pick attack. This pedal seems ideal to add that loss back in. What do you think??
The '78 Distortion was the first of the Super Badass pedals. very nice, I had one when they first came out. But I wasn't crazy about that squishy compression it gave at times. Real nice JMP voicing though and it listens to your volume knob. This however, may be the pedal for me.
what does it mean dynamic? In hifi world it means the capability to reproduce from very low sounds to very hi without distortion. For electric guitar gears, dynamic is usually used in place of a more accurate term that is "touch sensitivity". In this demo I do not see any demonstration of how much touch sensitive is the badass pedal.
I'm a fan of some MXR pedals. Great brand. But this isn't much more than a slightly modded Boss SD-1. Or an MXR ZW44, which is actually also an SD-1. Correct me if I'm wrong. There is nothing wrong with a Boss SD-1 as far as I'm concerned, but it is not a very special pedal either.
Try leaving the gain up and playing lighter instead of turning the volume down. How come nobody ever does that? Can anybody play with dynamics anymore?
What are you talking about? I grew 3 different MXR pedals in my organic garden this season alone. The Joyo pedals didn't make it after the cork sniffer worm infestation. Only the AS survived. Will try again next year.

Once again, great pedal. And you're a really great rhythm player. Sounds really good, those chords.
Bought one yesterday. Holy crap is it a good one!!!! What a great pedal.
BTW as always great playing!!!!
Just ordeded one for 120€ on sale, Muziker! I usually dig FET-drives & FET-boosts: they bring dynamics to your tone...
Really good review of this pedal and some great playing, as usual! It's nice to hear a drive pedal being tested with a tele.
Everyone I've ever dealt with at MXR had been great. Really love what they do.
This pedal is amazing.
I've heard another demo showing it in a more high gain setting and it was AMAZING.

MXR is killing it.
I purchased one about 6 months ago. I use it in front of a slightly broken up Orange TH30. Sounds fantastic!
Brilliant playing and brilliant pedal! I love the gain when pushed past noon, very nice!!!
Really wonderful playing. Great sounding pedal, right up my alley for leaving on and using the guitar volume control.
What’s Super Badass in this video is the guitar playing… dang good stuff man
Excellent demo. Impressive pedal and I'm impressed also with the performer tele. Perhaps more pedal demoes in this format.

Sounds like gold with that setup. Great amp.
Great tone, great playing!

Appreciate the rhythm playing
Stellar demo, I'm sold.
Holy smokes...

That ac dc riff with the boost on , nice.
Great playing ,cool pedal
Holy shit this guy can play! New subscriber here. Great pedal and demo also
i have this one and i love it in get combo with the duke of tone it sond reallllly cool !!!
Who are you dude ? I really like your demo and great playing… hope to find a CD with your music
Always enjoy your playing man. Sick pedal too
Could’ve sworn I heard the main riff for “Betty Davis Eyes” in there somewhere. Coincidence?
Sounds nice with the telecaster 👍
I had the custom badass and loved it heavily for years. You make this one sound goood!
Which one?

Dude I love your playing
I don't care about the pedal, MAN you're playing is AWESOME!! 😮
Unbelievable guitar player
What a great pedal, some many uses for this one. Some tasty playing too .

Reminds me of a bd2 but more transparent

The '78 Distortion is a Keeley modded MIJ DS-1
seems to be a useful transparent pedal. I could see myself using one.
Great review!!
Excellent drive pedal!
I would love to see this in a metal setting
It's set in a Metal Enclosure, Not good enough?
@@reverendg5937 as in a metal song
Nice video. What kind of Marshall cabinet is that? Never seen one like that.
Sounds fantastic
so is it an OCD ?
seems like it
This little punter is a hell of a guitarist. Still in nappies.
Great sounding pedal.
MXR has had a renaissance in the last decade and is showing no signs of slowing down.
play a squier through a solid state marshall combo with it please
Love it bought one 🎸✌🤘✌
MXR makes great stuff
Awrsome demo!
Fulltone electro Harmonix Dunlop/MXR are the very best ...it's a shame Michael Fuller closed up after 30 years of pure genius..
Yes it's very sad the one of the first boutique pedal builders just packed it in. 😢
@@reverendg5937 Jeez...I wonder why?
I don’t agree that MXR is amongst the best. I have a lot of them, but I prefer my Wampler and Fulltone.
@@StevenCarinci He said he couldn’t make enough money without moving production to China and he didn’t want to do that.
Check again… reports of demise may be exaggerated 😊
Very good, transparent!
Dude, I love this pedal! How many watts is it? Does it come with speakers? Asking for a friend
2 minutes in and it's sounding great...another OD pedal purchase looming?

I think you are right on mx77 modified OD being SD1 but not this one - different gain structure - hard clipper here like OCD to my ears
“The hair put on Chuck Noris’ face when he was a baby” pedal.

What demo did you watch?
MXR pedals always sound artificial in their own particular way and this is no different
Still on that waiting list for your King of bullshit?
Well it's not like they grow on trees is it
