    One of the best songs ever, period. Man did Jason's loss turned Pennywise into a band that can only write half a good album, Fletcher cannot carry an album himself, I think Full Circle contained songs Jason had written too, which is why it's so goddamn intense and the lyrics so urgent, as it is on that album too, although About Time is more pensive...it's actually a theme album, about time, almost all songs deal with the concept of time, it starts perfectly with this song and it rips your heart out at the end with Killing Time, almost no filler, only I guess Searching isn't great but the rest is fucking perfect. The first CD I ever bought, before that I only bought cassette albums, only cd player was the cd-rom on the 486 computer lol , plus, I did have money for a kid, but not that much, just a paperboy, but boy did I spin that CD, now I got the vinyl (smoke version).
    They did write one great album without Jason entirely if you don't count Full Circle, as I expect Jason wrote some of it, but unlike their first 3 albums, it doesn't say who wrote what (they would say who wrote each song then, either Jason or Fletcher), which was Land Of The Free? which is great until you get to the song that's after "My God", where the songs aren't really that great, but they did it. That song altered my life, like say "Stick That Fucking Flag Up Your Goddamn Ass, You Sonofabitch" by Propagandhi (which has very smart lyrics unlike its title) as a teenager, also Nirvana's "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter"...I guess I like tortured souls heh..

      Unknown Road was always my favorite album. I was around 18 years old when it came out and the combo of lyrics mixed with their particular style of Punk sound just really stuck with me. Alot of others were making a Big deal over Offspring and Greengay and I'm like forget that spoonfed Pop punk. Lol still feel the same way all these years later. Also Pennywise is better than Bad Religion too, By far imo. I know alot of people would compare them too. No comparison.

    • @severed111
      @severed111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rnkmode1876 I disagree if we consider Bad Religion's 1980-1994 era and The Offspring well...when Unknown Road came out, they were a damn good real punk band, I was one of those who owned Ignition on tape, Smash was an accidental success as in it came it at the right place in time, because it is very much like Ignition and the album afterwards (Ixnay) is great too, the poseurs didn't like it much, unlike Americana. But after all those years I can say the best Offspring album is the self-titled and Kill The President is one of their best track ever 😅
      Now Greenday I never was into, that Lookout! Records stuff in general was way too poppy and slow for me to care about it, although some great albums were released on that label, not counting Screeching Weasel's Boogadax3, The Vindictives for example, they weren't in that Mr.T Experience/Greenday vein I never felt any urgency or anger in the music at all, at least The Offspring started out legit, they stopped making anything good (if you take out the on-purpose radio hits, something Dexter admitted to writing such and do what he really liked on the rest of the 2 albums after Ixnay), Americana and Conspiracy of One are okay, but you really gotta take out the "hits".

    • @whoami-eb7cq
      @whoami-eb7cq ปีที่แล้ว

      @@severed111well said about the Offspring.I think it's that way for a lot if bands back then.Fat Mike made fun of all of them with "please play this song on the radio".A couple of years ahead of all of it but that's why they are so relevant with their content.

    • @severed111
      @severed111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, he was the lyricist for most songs and also the main writer, Fletcher wrote about 1/4 of that album, he participated more on Unknown Road and the self titled, but that album is truly Jason's, and it's a theme album, not many realize it, but it's in the damn title, it's about the concept of time, and that timebomb about to explode was how the guy felt inside...I think some of his songs he wrote after this one also made it to Full Circle, their last 5/5 album, Fletcher can't carry a whole album by himself, and by 2003 Jim's voice got kind of weak, nowhere as awesome as it was there, it's often like this with the best musicians...Cobain's case is similar and Pennywise were fans of Nirvana who weren't "grunge", they were a punk band with the Seattle sound, the other bands that get that label were only like Nirvana in the 80's, 80's Soundgarden is great for example..but the other bands labeled "grunge"? God they suck, especially Pearl Jam, who came out in 1990 and never had the aggressiveness and or speed of Nirvana and 80's "grunge" bands that didn't get big, they're just a pop-rock band that were labeled "alternative" for some reason I never figured out, no wonder they are the only ones who didn't lose anybody, they weren't a threat to the system of control like Kurt, or even Jason or a Derrick Plourde (when he left Lagwagon, Lag lost their jagged edges pretty much, also, one of the best drummers ever), although Byron is greatly unknown/underrated for some reason!

      @@robertmiles8766 Thinking Blink's Cheshire Cat was great is just an illusion, I give it a listen and I'm like, why did I bother with this, while Pennywise's 4 first albums are fucking gold, Jason Thirsk being an amazing lyricist and song writer, his loss showed from Straight Ahead and on...although Land of The Free? is almost in the same class as the first four..

      You're kidding right? This is melodic hardcore punk, or just "punk" if you're not too smart about music genres. There was emo in the 90's, but it wasn't popular, it was pretty goddamn heavy noisy music and no wimpage like what happened when all the poseurs who were just there for the ska/punk all went to the emocore and emo pop when ska/punk lost popularity in those extremely dark post 9/11 2001 days... Please tell me you're joking in any case...fuck, lol.
