In case people missed it at 0:10, a very important comment from a seasoned musician was made. Whether you're using a 'drum 'machine' or and an actual 'instrument'. (A drum a machine is a 'tool' as well) "Music" is the point .
that htere little thing is a sampler with drum pads, kind of like an mpc but smaller. same concept but wildly different layout. its cool to see him with a stripped down minimized kit, i think that thing is a good choice
and this proves you dont need to have the largest set up to do music like madlib just have a sampler drum machine record player with some vinyl your good to go as long as you have some talent like him
@Superbizzee Yeah it is. you have to listen near the end of the original song. its just sped up and Madlib is playing with, Like starting it over again. He also might of added something to it.
@immasuperninja madlib recorded in 2002 for the album, the movie itself had to go through editing and all that shit so it makes sense that it came out in 03
madlibs ode to brazillion music is called otis jackson conti i think...i have it some where in my room just cant find...google it... as for those brazil style beats...i got no clue where to find..
@Superbizzee beyond the actual record I think its all madlib. when it comes to sampling and producing what you wanna make the possibilities are endless.
@clutchyhopkinz i hate when ppl say sampling is stealin too, music from the 50's till even som shit now is third party music meaning it can be used by other artist and not ownd or subject to that one artist, unless specificly stated by the artist or label and thats when the law suits come into play
Thanks for this info man. I listened to the Golden Boys version, but it's not the same as the one Madlib is sampling here. Maybe the Golden Boys did the original version and some other group remade the song with a funkier feel? Anybody have any clues?
@renatokendi Every single person in this world that likes this video, should come and vote "thumbs up" on your response, because you helped all of us find more interesting music. Peace. =)
i read a biography on this dude n i thought that wat he uses would be sum expensive beauty but his equipment looks like crap. how in the hell does such a genius make wonderful music???
@MrPEANUTdelux This is pretty old i think (like 2002). He was just starting to record the first tracks that would go on Madvillainy. So his equipment might look crappy. But he probably still uses that equipment today. And well you called him a genius so...
This Is Prolly His Portable Equipment That He Takes On Trips. As You Can See They Are In A Hotel Room.. Not Madlibs House.. So It Doesnt Matter About The equitment really You Could Have The Top Of The Line Shit. An Not Know What Your Dune. Thats Why They Are Famous For What They Do Are Your Hatin... Pay Your Respect

For anyone wondering about the sample, it is Golden Boys o cabecao. Madlib changed the pitch, and looped the break at 2:16

Thanks for this info man. I listened to the Golden Boys version, but it's not the same as the one Madlib is sampling here. Maybe the Golden Boys did the original version and some other group remade the song with a funkier feel? Anybody have any clues?
