I'm up and down the entire length of the A66 on regular basis. I drive artics for Aldi and we have stores all over that area, from Penrith to Workington to Barrow and nearly everywhere between. Lovely drive.
I drive this road couple of times a week HGV. I love all the features, the rocks, the castles and the bleak wilderness as you get nearer Scotch Corner. Would love to explore, on a weekend off but, don't want to get shot at by a Challenger 2 or other!
I've had some fun and games on that one over the years. Remember overtaking a pigmobile in the snow one time...! The twisty bit through the tank ranges is the only bit I actually dislike. The rest of it's a pleasure.
@@TruckingInTheUK Light talls are no fun in anything more than a breeze. My least favourite through Warcop (thanks, I can never remember the name of that bit!) was full loaded deckers, to and from Asda Doncaster. Bad enough if you go in a bit quick in something
The sooner they dual that road,the better. And whilst they are at it they should dual the A69 from Carlisle to Newcastle and dual all of the A1 in Northumberland. And re number the A1(M)to the M1 where the existing M1 meets the A1(M)near Wetherby. And as a PS the A1(M)south of Wetherby should be re numbered the M1(X),X being extra. And of course convert all of the A1 from North of London into a motorway and call the whole lot the M1(X)

It was a regular route for me a few years ago. Glasgow to Barton truckstop. Trailer swap and then back to Tesco Livingston.

Agree about those bends at Warcop. The only time I hate it is in the wind; we run very light with 16' trailers.

I miss the childhood memories of when the whole of the A66 was single carriageway sadly very little of it left now
