And i think that exactly hoe China is.. well, so many gramps and grannys with backstory that you can hear all night. Believe me, some of their story can be too good to be real but some of them are pretty good :( but ofc you'll be sick of hearing "when i was young.."
It's the situation in rural Chinese villages. The parents/adults all move to the city to make money to support their children and elderly family members back home.

She says it’s from Big Nine, which is why she treasured it so much. The Big Nine that she talks about is Chang the Ninth. They likes each other and often hang out together. Chang says that when he young, her side of family doesn’t approve of him being involved with little Nine and moves out of the village. That’s why he’s trying to prove them wrong by getting famous as a writer so that he can be with her. In one of his quest, you have to rescue him from monster in the place that he comes to get his inspiration for the novel, yet the place that he comes to is also the place that Little Nine died long ago. He also stated that he loves Little Nine and wants to engage with her once her side of family approves of him as well.
i don't hear anyone talking about this but i read some book in genshin named "heart of clear springs" and the story was about a boy and a spring fairy who fell in love with each other (unsure) but the spring fairy realized that she couldn't be with the boy because she couldn't bear him growing old and passing so she left him. and i noticed when you talk to an npc named "old finch" he talks about a spring fairy whom he always talked with always when he was a boy,,

The ghost family of Mingyun Village. Little Nine who "lost her book" after falling down a river then suddenly disappeared after sha asked us to find "the book", I forgot where but it's in an area where everything goes dark and there's blue flames everywhere. The man child west of Liyue whose parents died and he seems to not have any clue, always thinking they'd come home even if their gravestones are infront of their house already.
And I think that little girl was chang the ninth childhood friend the reason why he create books because in his dialouge he makes prologues and read it to her and promises to finish it but one day she disappears I think her name was little nine
Childish Jiang was heartbreaking. Apparently his mother hid the fact that his father died, then later on, as she was on her deathbed, she arranged for a "final hide-and-seek game" just so he won't witness her die. He hid in that last spot for days it seems, and the people he saw come and go thinking they were for him were actually visitors on her wake. In the end some distant relatives as well as the Tianqiu of the Qixing took care of him, but careful not to tell what happened to his mother, to the point that the Millelith told him that those gravestones put up on the front of their house were arranged for by his parents "while they were away." Since he cannot read what is on them... Also just to add to the heartbreak factor: two Seelie statues are positioned just near the front door. One of the Seelies could be found way up high in the mountains near a dormant Ruin Hunter, representing the father who died in duty, while the other near the headstones representing the mother who remained loyal to her late husband, and caring to her son.
theory time; that man's daughter is the one in Wingshu inn ( the one who led you to the ruin hunter in the main story) she's near Liyue because the last thing she wants is to see her dad but because she doesnt know he's at back home so she's trying to get to Liyue harbor to search for her dad but ended up in the inn

There’s a girl named Sisi at Liyue harbor on a bridge staring out at the sea during daytime saying she’s waiting for someone to get married, there’s also a girl on the wharf named Cui’er waiting for the same guy Chaoxi, Chaoxi at night will be talking to Sisi, he’s cheating.
Ohhh so that's why when Sisi asks Chaoxi to get married, Chaoxi tells her something along the lines of, "We can't get married、 I am a man of the sea and when it calls me, I have to respond." So he was just making excuses lmao😂 I honestly felt bad for Sisi that time😭
I remember one time I was wandering behind the walls of Monstadt. There's this NPC near a boat and says that he wants to propose to another NPC named Flora. It's sweet and nice.. until I realised Flora is the NPC florist in Monstadt.. and she's a kid ;;
I mean Ella Musk looks like a kid but apparently she's a scholar of sorts(the Musk family is just weird as a whole) and there's also Chloris who just seems to live in the wilderness considering she says she doesn't have much human interaction or something

What I like about Genshin is I can remember some NPC names, like when I watched the 1.3 trailer and saw Chongyun and Xinyan and then Aether almost bumped to a guy, and I was like "oh he almost bumped to Ivanovich". Funny I remembered him. Whoa! Thank you all for the likes!
Me too, I can recognize two others from Snezhnaya too, Nadia and Vlad together are dating. I hope Ivanovich sells something in Liyue in the future. He's been standing there with empty stall

This is what I learnt from NPC Uncle Jiang Cheng: JC has a family consist of him,his wife and his daughter.JC is a busy man and he works from day until night and whenever he came back from work,his daughter will always be sleeping thus never to be able to see how his daughter grow. Several years later,his daughter grown up and is in love with someone(lets called him MR.X) but there is another person(Loathsome Thug) who also love his daughter but got rejected by Uncle JC(currently at home at the time),being furious about the rejection from Uncle JC and being envious against JC's daughter love with Mr.X. He waited until the day when Uncle JC is going out for his daily errands and as if god is trying to help him,that day was a terrible stormy day,he went to Uncle JC's home and murdered JC's wife and daughter. An hour later,when Uncle JC came back from home,he was shocked by the horrible scene that occured in his house and was traumatised Decades later,he was old and forgetful but he still remember that horrible scene from the past and keeps on regretting for not being home early tham usual so that he can protect his wife and daughter,even if he cant protect them at least he die with them as a family
One of the sadder ones that I discovered on my own was Jiayi, a Mililith soldier in Liyue that stands guard at the Ministry of Civil Affairs. He speaks of seeing his daughter again, and when you ask him about it, he tells you that his wife died in childbirth, and that he had to give his daughter to her grandparents for them to raise her. He wishes so badly to see his daughter again, and that made me really feel for him, for some reason. He's one of my favourite NPCs in the game because of his story, and I've even sketched him as tribute. I plan to do the same for Alfred the bard because seeing his story in this video almost made me cry...
It's also sad that Little Liu (Jiayi's daughter) doesn't know that her mother is dead because Jiayi only told her that her mom always works at Liyue Harbor. Little Liu dreams to be an adventurer and have a Vision so that her parents can finally stop working and come home. It's sad to think that she'll grow up and find out her mother was dead the whole time.
There's this NPC during the day time that's located near the docks, sorta near the Reputation quest board thing. Her name is Sisi and if you talk to her, she tells you that she's taken and she's waiting for her lover Chaoxi to come back from the seas. She talks about how she wishes to spend more time with him but he's always away There's another NPC located on the Pearl Gallery, her name is Cui'er. She also talks about her lover overseas who happens to be named Chaoxi. During nighttime you can find Chaoxi on the talks with Sisi. Sisi wants to get married but Chaoxi doesn't want to, claiming that he's "tired". Then Sisi calls him out for being suspicious So basically Chaoxi is cheating on Sisi and Cui'er lol
every time I run into an NPC with a sad backstory I'm left standing there with a surprised Pikachu face. Ones not in this vid is the old man in mondstat who talks about the fairy and the other is childish jiang or something who has a hide and seek minigame.
For those talking about Little Nine in Wuwang Hill, just to twist the knife for y’all- - Little Nine mentions that her village “up north” was swept away by flood. If you check the map, North from where she is....... lays the Oceanid. - Her “brother” (actually brotherly neighbor) is Chang the Ninth, that writer on a quest we did that wants to become famous. He’s all grown up now. He wants fame cus he’s hoping that one day, if his sister picks up his book, she will come to find him... The whole family was separated; no news that she died. - Little Nine was clinging on to a book in her quest, saying how her brother wrote it “specially for her.” That’s the same book Chang was referring to.
There are these two siblings in Liyue (a girl and a boy) and the girl is crying because their mom isnt back yet, and she doesnt know why, and then her sibling explaines that their mom is somewhere else with the stars. So thats pretty sad for childeren about 6-10 y/o.. i cried when i heard them :(
Theres a bulletin board on Quince village, which tell some rather wholesome stories about the villagers... ...and there is also writing that seems the talk about of Amber's grandfather. Though its pretty much buried in to board, you may have to interact with the board several times.
Time for a theory. The man that sings rhymes for his daughter at night, yeah. His daughter might just be Dusky Ming from the quest where you feed Xiao almond tofu but the chef gives you a quest to inspect the ghost and she leads you to a ruin hunter. And after the ruin hunter was defeated, you could see her dancing and singing a rhyme about hilichurls (which most likely could have been taught in her school or just someone taught her.) And remember how he said that he had went to Liyue? Why was Dusky Ming in Liyue in a restaurant? Maybe she was in a search for her father in Liyue because she knew that her father came to Liyue? So there could be a slight chance that Dusky Ming is indeed, his daughter.

I'm having goosebumps on that guy behind the cathedral. Imagine, you have a daughter that only wants you to sing a song for her but you're a lot more focused to your work. And then suddenly, she died without you on her side.
There's a kid near dragonspine named Joel, and his dad was missing. I finished the quest. Joel put a copy of boar Princess in his dad's bag, I kept looking for campsites until the very last campsite. The dad got trapped inside a cave and the only thing that could give him company were foxes. In his notes, he said that he wanted us to put some food on the bowl for the foxes and he hoped he could bring Joel with him to see the foxes next time. The only option is to jump off a cliff, below the cliff, I found yhe copy of Boar Princess and his dad's bag. It was hard to tell Joel abou what happened to his dad. He's gonna wait there in below the mountain forever while hoping that we are lying and hoping that his father is alive. Damn had to take a break.
Theres also an abandoned destroyed house in the middle of Liyue (dont remember where exactly), but theres a dog and a cat lived there. Not sure what happened but there seem to be a connection between the two...
i forgot where the npc was but i remember the npc saying he killed his rival with a sword and regretted it. it was a long time ago so i could prob be wrong about it but thats what i remembered

He's a battle maniac but isn't necessarily a bad guy, has a family whom he loves a lot, gets seriously hurt and is prone to die if he over uses his power of dillusion, and is a 'partner' to the MC. You can just sum up all that to the characters who usually helps the MC and gets severally hurt or end up dying,
There is an npc in the sea of clouds, northwest of liyue harbor named childish Jiang. He gives you a world quest where you have to play hide and seek with him. After a few hiding spots, he will hide in the "ultimate hiding spot" And yes, he will tell you something depressing after that. I haven't tried yet but I've watched some vids
In Liyue Harbor, before the night near the bank, there are two kids and their story is kinda sad. In the night near the stall in front of the souvenir shop (I think) the story continues
What I like about this game even more is that these NPC's come around at a certain time and aren't just there for the whole time for eg, you have Anthony in Monstadt who is always seen during night picking up coins so he has enough money to cure his relative while at the same you can see that relative in afternoon/morning praying to Barbatos near the fountain to make her better. Even Timmie and Flora aren't standing at their points during night
There's a Millelith in Liyue named Hongyi (Near grandman that sell kites) that talks about water pollution in Feiyun Slope. You can read more info of it in the bulletin boards about what happened.
In Liyue Harbor (during the daytime only), you can find two children named Yi Xian and Yi Zhu. Yi Zhu: Come on Yi Xian, there's a good girl. It's home time... Yi Xian: I'm not going home! I'm going to look for Mommy! Yi Zhu: But Mommy isn't coming home... Yi Xian: *sobs* Why won't Mommy come home... Does Mommy not love us anymore? Yi Zhu: Hey, don't say such silly things... Yi Xian: But, but... I know I saw the lady with black clothes bring Mommy here... *sobs* Yi Zhu: Yi Xian, what happened was... Mommy is one of the stars in the sky now. Yi Xian: You mean Mommy isn't sleeping anymore? ...You're lying, I don't believe you! Yi Zhu: I'm telling the truth, Yi Xian... Listen, how about we wait till nighttime and I take you up onto the roof? When you see the starlight, you will feel Mommy's loving eyes looking down...
Chang the Ninth, her childhood friend is the ghost girl in WuWang Hill. He keeps writing stories to find her, without knowing she died while trying to find him. This quest will appear as a daily commission.
As much as I want it to be true, the connection between Jiancheng and Granny Chu is non-existent. Granny Chu's husband was a sailor and they grew up in a fishing village and Qingce Village isn't a fishing village...which means that the loved ones both lost are actually gone...and I just made myself sad...
2:51 I could have sworn that old man is dusk ming's old man. If you hear old man gust's story he'll tell you of how the story of dusky Ming died became a ghost and his wife/mother was spirited way by there daughter. *"Dusky Ming"* is the ghost in wangshu inn, that got save'd by xiao.
Since you are in Qingce Village you might want to check out the billboard. I'm pretty sure it sheds some light on the whereabouts of Amber's grandfather. Other characters with tragic backstories include Chang the Ninth and his childhood friend Little Nine. Yes, that ghost girl from the spooky village. It's not 100% clear but it seems that she drowned back in the day, and Chang never learned about her fate. He misses her to this day, and even decided to become a writer hoping to become famous, so she would recognize him. There's also a young woman who faked her own suicide and ran away from home in Liyue Harbor to evade an arranged marriage.
I think for me one of the saddest stories is the one of the little boy in the Dragonspine camp. He has his own quest where you have to look for his father and the whole time you're just hoping...

I just today found your video.. There are lots of NPCs like him.. I tried to talk to most of them and went crying.. Like true Stanley's death.. And much more.. Hope genshin allows us to make them together again.. I would feel very happy and satisfied.

There's also someone with a sad backstory at wangshu inn. His name is Jiangxue. He can be often seen in commissions like Yan Xiao's dilemma as such.. He can be seen at the lower docks at the inn.
In the village near the god statue in luhua pool there’s a old man call uncle liu that fall in love with a big sister call shuzhi that live near him but he didn’t tell her about it，but u can actually find shuzhi next to the house across the road and she is waiting for him to come says “I love you “ to her and she had already waited him for more than 50 years
There’s one where you talk to the guard in liyue and then he said that the water is infected and then u go to the bulletin board and see news that a dead body was found and then u find more buletin boards around liyue and the old man said she died cause of sick love but then when you go to some restaurant you can see her well alive
So we gonna ignore the sad story of the Millelith guard at Liyue Harbor? His wife died in childbirth, so he told his daughter she's permanently working at the harbor 😔🖐️
In Liyue harbor, in the red bridges thingy, you'll come across two kids, a girl and a boy. I think they're siblings because they were talking about their mom, but the boy says that their mom is gone and a lady took her or smn. I'm hoping to know what happened to their mother, actually
I really love when developers actually give some characters even if they're a passed byes to give the world a lot more details and not just the npc just being "there" and also some mobs like the ruin guard/ruin hunter have their own kind of A.I because they're machines

just wait till you get to meet Li Zhu and Li Jiang. they can both be found on a bridge with a roof in Liyue harbor, but only Li Zhu can be found near a shop in liyue harbor.
At a fountain in mondstat you can find 2 npcs. During the day there's a sick girl wishing for her health because she doesn't wanna worry her brother anymore (or something like that). And at night the brother is wishing for his sisters health. Kinda sweet
Feel free to tell me other NPC's with interesting dialogues but don't tell me if it's sad, funny, etc. Just tell me the name and where they at.

That man child one hit me like a truck. I just thought he was a weird messed up guy but nope.
Childish Jiang was heartbreaking. Apparently his mother hid the fact that his father died, then later on, as she was on her deathbed, she arranged for a "final hide-and-seek game" just so he won't witness her die. He hid in that last spot for days it seems, and the people he saw come and go thinking they were for him were actually visitors on her wake. In the end some distant relatives as well as the Tianqiu of the Qixing took care of him, but careful not to tell what happened to his mother, to the point that the Millelith told him that those gravestones put up on the front of their house were arranged for by his parents "while they were away." Since he cannot read what is on them...
Also just to add to the heartbreak factor: two Seelie statues are positioned just near the front door. One of the Seelies could be found way up high in the mountains near a dormant Ruin Hunter, representing the father who died in duty, while the other near the headstones representing the mother who remained loyal to her late husband, and caring to her son.
And 2 child boy and girl who their mother passed away on the bridge in front of Northland Bank

I remember one time I was wandering behind the walls of Monstadt. There's this NPC near a boat and says that he wants to propose to another NPC named Flora. It's sweet and nice.. until I realised Flora is the NPC florist in Monstadt.. and she's a kid ;;

This is what I learnt from NPC Uncle Jiang Cheng:
JC has a family consist of him,his wife and his daughter.JC is a busy man and he works from day until night and whenever he came back from work,his daughter will always be sleeping thus never to be able to see how his daughter grow.
Several years later,his daughter grown up and is in love with someone(lets called him MR.X) but there is another person(Loathsome Thug) who also love his daughter but got rejected by Uncle JC(currently at home at the time),being furious about the rejection from Uncle JC and being envious against JC's daughter love with Mr.X.
He waited until the day when Uncle JC is going out for his daily errands and as if god is trying to help him,that day was a terrible stormy day,he went to Uncle JC's home and murdered JC's wife and daughter.
An hour later,when Uncle JC came back from home,he was shocked by the horrible scene that occured in his house and was traumatised
Decades later,he was old and forgetful but he still remember that horrible scene from the past and keeps on regretting for not being home early tham usual so that he can protect his wife and daughter,even if he cant protect them at least he die with them as a family

One of the sadder ones that I discovered on my own was Jiayi, a Mililith soldier in Liyue that stands guard at the Ministry of Civil Affairs. He speaks of seeing his daughter again, and when you ask him about it, he tells you that his wife died in childbirth, and that he had to give his daughter to her grandparents for them to raise her. He wishes so badly to see his daughter again, and that made me really feel for him, for some reason. He's one of my favourite NPCs in the game because of his story, and I've even sketched him as tribute. I plan to do the same for Alfred the bard because seeing his story in this video almost made me cry...
It's also sad that Little Liu (Jiayi's daughter) doesn't know that her mother is dead because Jiayi only told her that her mom always works at Liyue Harbor. Little Liu dreams to be an adventurer and have a Vision so that her parents can finally stop working and come home. It's sad to think that she'll grow up and find out her mother was dead the whole time.
There's this NPC during the day time that's located near the docks, sorta near the Reputation quest board thing. Her name is Sisi and if you talk to her, she tells you that she's taken and she's waiting for her lover Chaoxi to come back from the seas. She talks about how she wishes to spend more time with him but he's always away
There's another NPC located on the Pearl Gallery, her name is Cui'er. She also talks about her lover overseas who happens to be named Chaoxi.
During nighttime you can find Chaoxi on the talks with Sisi. Sisi wants to get married but Chaoxi doesn't want to, claiming that he's "tired". Then Sisi calls him out for being suspicious
So basically Chaoxi is cheating on Sisi and Cui'er lol

For those talking about Little Nine in Wuwang Hill, just to twist the knife for y’all-
- Little Nine mentions that her village “up north” was swept away by flood. If you check the map, North from where she is....... lays the Oceanid.
- Her “brother” (actually brotherly neighbor) is Chang the Ninth, that writer on a quest we did that wants to become famous. He’s all grown up now. He wants fame cus he’s hoping that one day, if his sister picks up his book, she will come to find him... The whole family was separated; no news that she died.
- Little Nine was clinging on to a book in her quest, saying how her brother wrote it “specially for her.” That’s the same book Chang was referring to.

Not really the granny in liyue harbor selling adult toys is kinda awkward.
Time for a theory. The man that sings rhymes for his daughter at night, yeah. His daughter might just be Dusky Ming from the quest where you feed Xiao almond tofu but the chef gives you a quest to inspect the ghost and she leads you to a ruin hunter. And after the ruin hunter was defeated, you could see her dancing and singing a rhyme about hilichurls (which most likely could have been taught in her school or just someone taught her.) And remember how he said that he had went to Liyue? Why was Dusky Ming in Liyue in a restaurant? Maybe she was in a search for her father in Liyue because she knew that her father came to Liyue? So there could be a slight chance that Dusky Ming is indeed, his daughter.
Wait a min? Isn't Hutao also sing related to Hilichurls

There's a kid near dragonspine named Joel, and his dad was missing. I finished the quest.
Joel put a copy of boar Princess in his dad's bag, I kept looking for campsites until the very last campsite. The dad got trapped inside a cave and the only thing that could give him company were foxes.
In his notes, he said that he wanted us to put some food on the bowl for the foxes and he hoped he could bring Joel with him to see the foxes next time. The only option is to jump off a cliff, below the cliff, I found yhe copy of Boar Princess and his dad's bag. It was hard to tell Joel abou what happened to his dad. He's gonna wait there in below the mountain forever while hoping that we are lying and hoping that his father is alive.
Damn had to take a break.
Oh man, I regret skipping most of the dialogue for that quest.

There is an npc in the sea of clouds, northwest of liyue harbor named childish Jiang. He gives you a world quest where you have to play hide and seek with him. After a few hiding spots, he will hide in the "ultimate hiding spot" And yes, he will tell you something depressing after that. I haven't tried yet but I've watched some vids

What I like about this game even more is that these NPC's come around at a certain time and aren't just there for the whole time for eg, you have Anthony in Monstadt who is always seen during night picking up coins so he has enough money to cure his relative while at the same you can see that relative in afternoon/morning praying to Barbatos near the fountain to make her better. Even Timmie and Flora aren't standing at their points during night
There's a Millelith in Liyue named Hongyi (Near grandman that sell kites) that talks about water pollution in Feiyun Slope. You can read more info of it in the bulletin boards about what happened.
In Liyue Harbor (during the daytime only), you can find two children named Yi Xian and Yi Zhu.

Chang the Ninth, her childhood friend is the ghost girl in WuWang Hill. He keeps writing stories to find her, without knowing she died while trying to find him. This quest will appear as a daily commission.

As much as I want it to be true, the connection between Jiancheng and Granny Chu is non-existent. Granny Chu's husband was a sailor and they grew up in a fishing village and Qingce Village isn't a fishing village...which means that the loved ones both lost are actually gone...and I just made myself sad...
2:51 I could have sworn that old man is dusk ming's old man. If you hear old man gust's story he'll tell you of how the story of dusky Ming died became a ghost and his wife/mother was spirited way by there daughter.

Even if you reunite them, they won't recognize each other. That would only make it sadder.
Since you are in Qingce Village you might want to check out the billboard. I'm pretty sure it sheds some light on the whereabouts of Amber's grandfather.
Other characters with tragic backstories include Chang the Ninth and his childhood friend Little Nine. Yes, that ghost girl from the spooky village. It's not 100% clear but it seems that she drowned back in the day, and Chang never learned about her fate. He misses her to this day, and even decided to become a writer hoping to become famous, so she would recognize him.
There's also a young woman who faked her own suicide and ran away from home in Liyue Harbor to evade an arranged marriage.
I think for me one of the saddest stories is the one of the little boy in the Dragonspine camp. He has his own quest where you have to look for his father and the whole time you're just hoping...

just wait till you get to meet Li Zhu and Li Jiang. they can both be found on a bridge with a roof in Liyue harbor, but only Li Zhu can be found near a shop in liyue harbor.
At a fountain in mondstat you can find 2 npcs. During the day there's a sick girl wishing for her health because she doesn't wanna worry her brother anymore (or something like that). And at night the brother is wishing for his sisters health. Kinda sweet
