I think I know why there is plastic underneath Bertie. So I saw the wheels, and they're pretty big compared to the size of that Bertie model. So my theory is that they weren't able to get the wheels in a bit higher than the wanted, and they didn't quite fit, So they added a sheet of plastic on the Bottom to keep the wheels in place. Fantastic Unboxing!!!
I agree with you about the Ironworks, and I wish I knew the reason why they had those exclusive tracks. I have a water tower that has a separate piece of track from the Learning Curve era, and the track didn't have a pin, but magnets that connect the track and the base of the water tower. I do miss those days...

It would probably be a better idea to get a pre-2004 Terence for Oliver's treads. Or, you could take off the wheels that Oliver already has and put the wheels and treads from the 2004 Terence on Oliver.

I wish I didn't feel ashamed of myself for liking Thomas at my age. If I were more confident, I definitely would've gotten Arthur, Murdoch and Rheneas by now, because those are the ones I want most. I also probably would've upgraded to the latest Mattel models from before Wood for the ones that had Mattel models.
I grew up during the late learning curve era, and I have a lot of Items from there. I stopped collecting for a whil after the TOMY era, and I am hoping to get some gorgeus Mattel items like these too. I think I agree with you on Oliver And Oliver, but I REALLY want that awesome CGI harold.

Crazy idea for that Paxton Tidmouth/Arlesdale bridge. You know how the Arlesdale railway in the books and SLOTLT had a platform or some thing going over a piece of NWR track? Use the bridge for that
I just looked at my old model of Bertie (it says 2001 on his wheels) and yes, there is a man smoking a pipe on the left side. There are more body details on the new Bertie, which I like, but I do agree, he needs passengers, albeit updated, non-smoking ones.
I'll admit I kinda skimmed through a little bit to get through all of it hehe. Nice video though. An easier way to open packaging like the rusty to the rescue pack is on the bottom, the space between the cardboard and plastic, you cut the tape and the plastic lifts off, then you can lift the top of the plastic tray and get the items out while keeping the packaging.
At 43:42, you explained that the James model said origins James. At my local toys r us, I found a factory error introducing James that said introducing James on the packaging and on James' undercarriage, but his tender said origins James.
That's a cool find! I know that Mattel eventually changed the "Origins James" label underneath the model to "Introducing James" and then back to "Origins James" for the 2016/2017 release with the smaller face but I've never seen one with the two different names paired together. That James must've been produced and packaged right around the time that the switch was occurring.
Would you consider making Oliver the Excavator into a custom? By that I mean replacing Oliver's chassis with Terrance's. The caterpillars would be able to work properly, Terrance's chassis is more detailed and you could paint it to match Oliver (the devil is in the detail), and I'm sure you could figure out how to make Oliver rotate correctly. Looking forward to part 2! :)

I don't think that's what really happened; the reason is simply that the 2D cartoon stock art for Bertie (which they based all the 2002 vehicles off of) didn't show any passengers inside.
Honestly, I don't have any evidence like an article or something on why Bertie's artwork was removed but that's always been the general consensus. And really, putting a picture of a man smoking a pipe on a child's toy isn't the smartest thing to do.
Older Terences had regular style wheels which would be compatible with Oliver. The newer Terences have crappy custom wheel sets that look nicer, but prevent the treads from fitting on other models (other than Thumper or Byron) and make it impossible to remove the treads without breaking Terence (the old treads pulled of easily).
As for Oliver you can go on ebay and buy a new in box 2002 era Terence that had traction tires, which should fit much better sense the old style Terence also had 3 wheels. Those came on and off, in fact as a kid I lost my treads to Terence because they came on and off so easy.
I always have trouble buying Thomas Wooden Railway items at my local bookstore. They sell for $12 for the smaller engines and almost $25 for the larger engines and the rolling stock packs. I can only get the smaller episodes.

I think the reason why some of these are hard to unbox is to make sure people don’t take the toys out of box in store.
