Personally I think hes very interesting
It's so interesting to see ansem interact with normal people like the twilight kids. It's like he doesn't know how to interact with them cuz hes so used to people like sora lol
It felt very tonally off tbh. Like one of the most powerful antagonists in kh is just chucklefucking about in twilight town and getting pestered by random kids.
I believe this comment I saw on Reddit sums up that interaction perfectly

Every single thing Ansem says and does is part of a script, he accounts for everything, even Riku telling him to get a life and go home in 3D, but he had absolutely no fucking clue Hayner and co even existed, so when they so brazenly start to fuck with him and interrupt his big, grand monologue disparaging AnsemTheWise, which he’s been longing to do for an age, he’s tripped up, seemingly for the first time in his existence (note this is the Ansem from the end of KH1, he’d have no memories of CoM and if the rules are taken as they’re written he shouldn’t even remember his encounter with Riku in DDD) so it causes him to channel his inner Terra a bit”
Hearing ansem and xemnas speak as one is unnerving to say the least....
There's legit points here where Ansem and Riku manage to have conversations that are 90% just "Darkness. Darkness? DARKNESS!"

The Ansem that appears at the beginning of Reverse/Rebirth is DiZ in disguise. The Ansem still alive within Riku, the true Ansem, doesn't show up until the defeat of Lexaeus.
I wish Billy Zane stayed as Ansem... Literally one of my favorite voice-acted characters.

When I met Billy Zane, he said that he had no idea why he was replaced. Granted Richard Epcar is not that bad as Ansem or Xehanort's heartless
@@flamesaber3223 Quite possibly Square Enix thought he cost too much and went for the cheaper option.
Given Ansem looks like a 30-40 year old Xehanort, Billy Zane actually sounds like he'd fit better between Benjamin Diskin's young Xehanort and Leonard Nimoy's elder Xehanort.
Unpopular opinion: I actually Like Richard Epcar's Ansem.
I liked having Richard Epcar voicing Ansem because I enjoyed hearing him voicing Raiden from Mortal Kombat 9 to 11.
And I also wanted to see a Mortal Kombat actor voicing a Disney character.
Still such an amazing deep voice.

Richard Epcar is incredible as Ansem! He gives Ansem so much personality. It's what made him my favorite character. He also sounds a lot like the Japanese voice actor. My favorite lines: Riku: "I'm not like that anymore." Ansem: "Yes, you are!" XD

Also I think at the beginning of the keyblade war when xehanort was speaking to the guardians of light, I think terranort should’ve been there instead of vanitas. Terranort is a xehanort, vanitas is not.
I think they did that because Vanitas needed to summon the Unversed for that upcoming battle but yea I agree
Vanitas is a Darkness. All the Xehanort's are a Darkness. Yellow eyes.
Terranort had to be a surprise so Ven would run over to him later, leading to the whole “Terranort bodies everyone” scene lol.
Also ansem from kh1 is vastly different from current ansem. Back then he was this "all knowing" man of insurmountable knowledge. Now hes... just ansem? Lol
Keep in mind that during KH1 he was still posing as Ansem the Wise so thats the excuse for why.

I really tried to adjust to Epcar's interpretation of Ansem but I just prefer Billy Zane. Not saying Epcar is a bad voice actor or even that his Ansem is bad, it just doesn't fit the character as much as Billy Zane's performance imo.

Some fans have theorized ansem and xemnas even master Xehanort were in a way helping sora to help guide him to his destiny I believe they were helping guide sora to use the power of waking and lose himself which is very sad and horrible but that I think was Sora’s true destiny and it happened at the end of kingdom hearts 3 so it only makes sense to me it’s what makes Xehanort a great antagonist to me he is one of my all time favorite anime characters/antagonists ever!!!
