    That's a wonderfully put together video. It doesn't seem like 50 years when I see the yellow fronted trains. It's amazing how you mixed the old and new footage ❤❤

    Bobby W, thank you so much for this. I recently walked the path to scatter my sons ashes in the Greta. James (my son) and I had walked the path together numerous times and I remember as a boy, seeing the blue DMU's pulling into Keswick station.

    Just got back from a lovely walk along the old railway line from Threlkeld to Keswick and back. Wonderful job they have done restoring the trail especially the re opening of Bobbins tunnel. The tarmac surface I think is great but more of a problem from my point of view is they’ve let trees grow both sides of the old track so the view of Little Switzerland, which was the nickname for the valley which the railway line ran through, is now somewhat diluted and less scenic from the view you got from the train which I remember well from when I was a young kid making shopping trips back in the day to Carlisle from Keswick with my now dearly missed mum. It’s tragic this railway line was closed and efforts must be made to reopen it, maybe even as a heritage line? It wouldn’t cost that much either when compared to the cost of just a few miles of motorway.

      Today this line could have been a useful Park & Ride link between the M6 motorway at Penrith and Keswick. Would have reduced the number of cars clogging up Keswick. Similar to the Park & Ride Station on the St Ives line in Cornwall.

    Nice, the walk looks really nice, shame the line was closed, before my time but british rail was crap so not surprised, sadly they thought cars would replace trains, you still can't get a seat on the trains we still have 🚂

      British Rail might well have had it faults but compared to the shambles we have today where you can rarely get a seat, trains fares are overpriced and trains are cancelled on a whim or cancelled altogether because of engineering work to be replaced by buses!? Well! tbh BR wasn’t as bad as we like to remember it was.

    Quite sad in a way, although great to see old film of the line. Scandal it was ever closed and as for the newly restored footpath and tunnel, it's great.....apart from the tarmac surface, which has taken away character from the old line and is no better than the old cinder track which was accessible for all anyway and would have lasted longer than the tarmac will.

      It's a shame Definitely that it closed. I think the new path is fantastic!

      @@BobbyWgn The path is excellent and it's nice most of Keswick station has been preserved. Of course losing the railway was a big mistake.

      It's a shame it closed wanton vandalism the tarmac surface did take away the charm of the cinder path.

    Could the train return to Keswick?

    • @BobbyWgn
      @BobbyWgn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a campaign for it to happen! And when they built the new railway path it was done in a way that, if the railway was to return, it could...

    Sad really why it had to close and how long it will take to rebuild ?

    Yet another foolish short sighted line closure given the beauty of the route and its popularity for walking, climbing and general tourism. Sadly the line has become road for a lot of its route but it could be possible to reopen the line as far as Keswick, but there appears to be no appetite from any Government, they would rather spend billions on new roads, which means more vehicles, more congestion and more pollution.
