You all never mention Parson's at the Point, why? How was your home built? Concrete? Crushed rock under the foundation? Road base under driveway and? The roads you drive on everyday, where does it all come from? Where would you move it if you could? Someone else's town, city? How long was Geneva here before the area grew to overflowing? Because you want to live below the pit it should move? Do you know how much it would raise the cost of your streets, buildings, houses, schools, hospitals, rail ways, airports, ski resorts etc. to move Geneva Rock and Parsons? Think about it.
This comment keeps coming up- the mining was there first, you knew it was there when you moved there, etc etc. The mining was... WAS... much farther from the populous. The valley(s) grew and now the mine is amid neighborhoods and businesses- in a flat valley surrounded by mountains the directions the city can grow are limited. It is what it is NOW... also, on the topic of now vs then... the mining operations were always at, near, or a bit below surface level. They exhausted their property and pits... that's part of the problem now, because NOW they are surrounded by people AND they have expanded into the mountain, well above surface level. The Point of the Mountain creates a constriction in the airflow between the valleys and that is why it's always windy there (it's called a venturi). At this Point Geneva is mining well above surface level, on land they acquired later and got permits for later. Saying people knew what they were in for and accepted it and they're getting what they signed on for is dead wrong. The contextual details of all that's changed in the last 5-10 years makes a world of difference - they are doing more people harm than those that benefit, the "greater good" is no longer being served; now it's the same old story of profiteering at the expense of human well-being (and they know it, that's the most horrible part to me).
That is Staker Parson and their pit in the video shown. If you are going the speak about Geneva Rock and complain about them, at least show the right area.
Great Job ! Hearing the wind is ever better : we can witness one of the main factors of the problem, and still hear her very well. Geneva rock must plow in another place, more respectful of the site for its users and neighbors. Anti-dust by wetting or waiting for no wind will not really help to protect the site, but save time for the fight. The consequences of the dust in the years to come are most probably going to cost both G.R. (+the County & State?) a big chunk of the current incomes...
Great work. I live in Draper and think this needs to change. I am with you. Please keep us posted on Draper events around this project and how we can stop this from happening.
More dust blowing out of the mine (see the new vid I just posted)- despite Geneva Rock just being fined about a week ago for continued dust violations. At what point is enough, ENOUGH? At what point will Utah government revoke their mining permits???
Do your homework. We did move (7 years ago now). Doesn't mean they can do whatever they want, Salt Lake and Utah counties have too many people for Geneva to play dumb to the harm they are doing. Do just a little search and you'll find that they have repeatedly been fined for exceeding the allowable air pollutant limits... they know what they are doing, but they make too much money and it's easier to pay the fines - or play political games - than it is to do the right thing and actually do something about it. What they are doing makes the most FINIANCIAL sense but there's no regard for the moral/humanity aspect. I don't know how they live with themselves... Also, most people think the dust is just an annoyance so they peacefully allow what's going on without a fuss. If you care enough to look into this just a tiny bit you might change your thinking that it's all ok...
You guys should help us stop the rezoning process that Geneva Rock has proposed to expand mining onto South Mountain. Draper City Council is currently thinking of passing it.
There needs to be a solution to prevent this! Geneva Rock could come up with a solution that makes both sides happy. For example....Wetting the dust before it plows and keeping it below the bench level?

I have to ask;; why did people build near there ?
Move if you dont like it. Geneva was there first.

I wish you all success and hope the residents that will be affected will join the cause. The world needs more spunky people like you.
