    3:45 Agree with Jacob. The key of Latch is F minor. Even now just hearing the tune in my head it's quite evident. The melody is what determines the key. The tonal center where the melody would resolve. BTW, when they say that it never plays the Fm chord that's not true. Here's the whole harmonic breakdown:
    Key: F-minor.
    intro: Bbm9 - Fm9 - Eb(add2)/G - GbMaj9 (sometimes it sounds like Ebm11, they're interchangeable)
    chorus/drop: Bbm9 - Fm9 - Eb(add2) - GbMaj9 over weird C, Db, C, B bass movement, which can really be analyzed as passing notes leading into Bb again.
    What they did with the GbMaj9 chord and the bass is genius. It works because the bass is playing very short percussive notes. Genius. This song started my love affair with Disclosure.

      @@Savvier I know that video. He analyzes it incorrectly. I forget exactly what he said, but I remember seeing it. I think he said it's in Bb-minor. Bb minor is the 4 chord of this song. I've seen a lot of incorrect chord progressions for this song online, believe me. A lot of people don't hear the last chord correctly. I've seen a lot of DbMaj7, whereas the chord from the record is GbMaj7. Just go to the piano, play these chords and tell me what you hear. These are the chords from the record.
      Edit: Just scanned through that video and yea. 2 mistakes:
      1) he says it's in Bbminor, which it's not. You always have to consider the melody. The melody is what tells you what key the song is in. Sometimes songs never even hit the 1 chord. But the melody will tell you where the 1 is. The melody of Latch clearly outlines F minor pentatonic, NOT Bb minor.
      2) Second mistake is the last chord is Db according to that guy. The last chord is in fact GbMaj9, NOT DbMaj9.
      Sucks to make a whole video presentation on this awesome song and get so much of it wrong.

    can someone explain if you send the bounce to the mastering with all the plugins enabled on the mixbus or do you disable the limiter and limit it during the mastering?

    • @B34ms
      @B34ms ปีที่แล้ว

      You should send track for mastering without any plugins on the master bus. You can keep the plugins on the mixbus's as they will be balancing the mixdown. If you choose not to mix yourself and to send stems for a professional mixdown then the mix engineer will tell you what plugins to disable (stereo effects and other things which mess with the phase)

    While of course they're very knowledgable and have released some good tracks over the last decade, to me almost every project they do either on these streams of as a proper release sounds like a slightly different version of the same track. Each stream they effectively run on autopilot, turning to the same kind of chords, bass sounds, shakers and claps. Obviously everyone has their 'signature' sound that just comes from instinct but it's like they're following a Disclosure instruction manual each time. Just my opinion of course.
