They are treasures! The wood grain gives them 'animation' - love them both, all the way from Australia xxx

Very nice work. And thanks for the teaching lesson on the opal. Did not know of that it changed the color when applied to liquid.

Thank you so much! Only certain opals do it, but I was definitely terrified the first time I cabbed an opal and all of the color disappeared! 😂 thank you so much for watching!

I just love watching creative artists making beautiful things with their hands. Great job Theo. Hey, I know you have a foot peddle for the dremel/flex shaft, but do you also have it attached to your arm when you are sanding by hand 😉. With the video sped up it looks like it. 😁

Your weather looks like what we had in lower Michigan in May went from farmers planting to snow to four - eight inches of rain to highs in the nineties what a month! Beautiful carvings I love the eyes and the Russian Olive wood.

I have been sitting on this video for awhile; this was actually filmed in April, but that pretty much sums up the April we had here in Montana! Thank you so much! That Russian Olive is some awesome stuff to work with!

    Super cool!! A few things:
    1. I'm gonna need a shark. You know how I feel about sharks. And yours are so freaking cool!!
    2. I am running out of wood for you to go through so you'd best come by soon.
    3. If you do and you have scrap wood, bring it. I'll take it. Also scrap shells.
    4. CALL YOUR MOTHA. SHE WORRIES. ;)

😂 we will come out there soon, I promise! We have been INSANELY busy lately! I can definitely and would love to make a shark for you, I would love to see what you have for wood, and I definitely have shell and wood scraps for you! If you come by the shop at some point this week you can pick out some of my shells to take with you! 😊 and either way, we'll come over soon and I'll barbeque! Love you, mother!

The turtle and bird are beautiful! I love how they take on the look of a shark and a dolphin! Must be the amazing wood grain in them. Thank you for showing us your process. Excellent work!
PS I'm pretty sure the obsidian point you used for the shark eyes was the product of modern knapping, but please reassure me! 😁

Theo, in this video you mentioned having found a Russian Olive burl that you were planning to carve. I'm curious to learn what you did with it. I think you're the first person I've heard string together those three words besides me: Russian Olive burl.
When I was a kid, my grandpa cut down a Russian Olive tree in his backyard, but it didn't die. The stump kept sending up shoots. In those days, I was mowing grandpa's yard, and I routinely mowed over the shoots that were sprouting from the sides of the short stump. Through the years, the tree continued trying to grow, and I continued trying to discourage it from growing. 👿
A decade later, I returned to find that the shoots I had mowed over for years had grown into a huge burl, and this burl formed a ring around the sides of the short stump. After ten years, the burl had grown to become far larger than the stump. I collected the burl, and I'm curious to compare it with yours, since I've never seen another Russian Olive Burl.
I've been busy making all kinds of stuff with it: tobacco pipes, small bowls, and various decorative items you'd appreciate, given the combination of wood, stone and silver. I often inlay metal and gemstone decorations into otherwise traditional tobacco pipes.
