    Between this video and the party comp one, I can definitely tell that we rate some things quite differently and I think it's because you tend towards very melee oriented builds and (based on clips at least) real-time combat. I love my OP casting be it blasts, CC, or just nice utility so I find things like Court Poet and Witch (including Ember) as well as self-sufficient melee tanks like Sword Saint better.
    It really goes to show how much variety in terms of builds and playstyles this game has! You can make lots of different things work, even on the hardest difficulties.

    Totally agree with nearly all of these choices.
    -The best hunter class is hands down the Divine Hunter, and I'll never be convinced otherwise. Your pet gets the celestial template, and for some strange reason this version of it allows your pet to smite once per turn, not once per day (unlike the new pally version of the same thing which does only let you smite once per day). By L20 that's +20 to all damage the pet does, multiplying on crit, which can include extra hits that come off things like the Claws of a Sacred Beast item. And as good as that is, that isn't even the best thing about the Divine Hunter. You get a domain, with its domain powers (-2 levels), and with domain zealot that can be a huge bonus (luck is a good pick, for a self-buff luck effect, or travel, for a swift-action teleport for battlefield mobility; war can give you +9 damage and a free feat, madness can give you +9 attack or skills, depending on what you need, and so on). More importantly, you gain its domain spells, which you can cast as spontaneous spells; this is something no cleric can even do, and something inquisitors do not get, as they get the domains but not the spells. With the right domain (war/ glory - although when I was playing this class War was bugged), this will give you Divine Power for +6 to attack and +6 to damage and a haste effect. If you want other spells hunters don't normally get, just pick up a couple of impossible domains.
    -To me, the key benefit of a dirge bard is that you can affect undead with mind-affecting effects (not just spells, as it says). This includes demoralize and dazzling display, and also dirge of doom, so you can shaken any undead. This is important because it makes them susceptible to shatter defenses. If you also take a level dip in thug, you can also cause fear instead of shaken with your demoralize ability, and just rely on dirge of doom for situation where you prefer to just shaken them. The main fear-resisting enemy you face is undead, so dirge bard can really make life a lot easier for certain parts of the game. (As a side note, the easiest I ever had Regill's gargoyle cave on unfair was with a thug-dipped dirge bard with high persuasion standing in the middle with dazzling display on auto-cast; the entire cave including the gargoyle cleric boss was perma-feared and my archers just mowed them down).
    -Ecclesitheurge also functions differently than it is described in the game. (Luckily, for the better). The way it works, is any domain that is considered primary (which is to say, the two domains you have picked), including extra domains you take through impossible domain, grant you all of their spells to use in any slot, not just domain slots - this can make you virtually a mage. The game then considers ALL your deity's domains as secondary domains, meaning you can put spells from every single one of your deity's 5 or so domains in your domain slots. This means if you are an Erastil Ecclesitheurge, you could take the community and animal domains, but you would still be allowed to put Barkskin in your L2 domain slot even though you haven't taken plant as a domain.
    -I would also pick Sanctified Slayer as the best inquisitor. I find that inquisitor is often struggling with its swift actions, since they get domain powers they can use as swift actions (with domain zealot), which is so powerful it would be a waste not to do it. However, judgement is a swift action, meaning the first round of combat you want to hit judgement. And then to make things worse, Greater Bane Weapon is also a swift action. So the second round of combat you want to use bane weapon as your swift action. By then the fight is probably over, and you still haven't been able to use a swift action for a domain power. It gets even worse for the Judge, who can share their judgement... as another swift action. Sanctified slayer swaps out the judgement for sneak attack and studied target, which +5 attack at L20 is pretty on-par with judgement anyway, and doesn't consume your swift action. It also gets 3-4 extra feats (depending on if you are taking dips elsewhere), and kind of gets you an extra mythic ability as you don't have to take the infinite judgement feat. I find the burst potential of the sanctified slayer is much higher than a normal inquisitor, and you give up very little to gain a lot. Since you don't need to pop judgement in your first round, you can instead pop bane weapon or a domain power, which compliments your sneak attack, and can make short work of random encounter enemies etc when they are flat footed.

      Even more importantly: Divine Hunter gets Domains. Guarded Hearth and Madness Domain are some of the best buffs in the game and at least one party member should have them - using a divine hunter, saves you from needing an inquisitor/cleric in the party. Lann makes a great Divine Hunter.

      Pity the Nauseate spells erroneously don't affect Demons despite not having the Poison descriptor like Cacophanous Call, the Mass version of it would be one of the strongest CC spells otherwise.

    • @Alister222222
      @Alister222222 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This is basically correct but its even better than that; the way it is implemented in the game, Dirge Bards can affect undead with any mind-affecting ability, not just spells. This includes demoralize and dazzling display, as well as Dirge of Doom. This makes them extremely useful to have if you are fighting undead.

    Something I just learned that's probably just a bug but; Gendarme's bonus feats can actually get feats from trickster perception 2, so you can get the Improved Crit line really outside of the regular feats every other level.

      Yep, that is a very special case for Gendarme that I also noticed in my Trickster Build for it.

    I've just caught up with a lot of your build/companion guide backlog, well done on each and every one of your build/class/other guides.
    You've put the information in clearly and easy to understand, kept synergy with all of you companions and builds (pets, outflank, shatter defences 😛) vs. other guides out there that have most of the companions as their own little island with minimal synergy or just rush through a build guide without the "guide" part of it so thank you very much.
    Loved the video as well to give me more ideas of classes to pick. As for other guide suggestions, as you mentioned a prestige class guide would be nice, esp. with a base class that works well with each. Another I'd be interested in would be a mythic class guide, with a brief description of each mythic and a set of classes (or class style) that'd work well with each of them e.g. Angel - works well with a full divine caster for all the spells or a minor divine class (ranger/paladin) to have angel spells to assist your physical self / party.
    Either way, keep up the good work!!!

    I agree with most of your analysis.
    But when it comes to the Witch, giving up the patrons is too big of a price to pay, which makes the Stigmatized Witch a poor choice. Ley Line Guardian is my favorite Witch archetype. It gets a patron, hex progression, and spontaneous casting, which I tend to prefer over prepared casters anyway. It's unique class features are pretty decent as well. It loses a couple hex slots, but still gets plenty.

The magic blessing is the best blessing and Second Breath and Heroes Never Surrender synergize so well with it that it is worth building the entire character around. To avoid leaving fervour unspent prior to the Second Breath reset one wants to profitably use fervour at such a rate that it runs out at approximately the same time as blessings do and Proclaimer can burn through fervour better than any other archetype.

      I am running a bloodrager merc right now on unfair that I am extremely happy with (currently in Act 5, so he's holding up well in the late game). My idea was to use the fact that you get +5 foot reach with the serpentine bloodline to build a heavy-hitter who could stand waaaay back and just hit things hard and do a lot of attacks of opportunity.
      My build was Primalist 16, Sanctified Slayer (inquisitor) 3, if I recall (probably going SS for the last level, or dipping something else for utility). The slayer part was to get Solo Tactics, which enables him to grant attacks of opportunity to everybody when he crits (via outflank), and get attacks of opportunity when anyone else crits (via seize the moment), despite the fact that other party members don't have those feats. He's not there for the spellcasting, so not bothered by the fact his caster level is just L16.
      With legendary proportions, he gains (I think?) +10 feet of reach, for a melee reach of 20 feet, which is the same as a dart. I am using the Faith Bearer scimitar for the heal on crit, but I could be using a reach weapon for even more reach, which would put his melee range in the same league as a throwing axe.
      I took a dragon bloodline as a second bloodline for the +4 natural armor, and the +3 melee armor from the wings (+7 armor seems worth a mythic ability). Combined with mirror image, he's not quick to go down, and with the fast-healing necklace from Greengate and the heal-on-crit scimitar what health he does lose comes back fairly quickly.
      As a primalist, I gave up the bloodrage powers I didn't need, and took lethal stance for extra hit, beast totem for armor and pounce, and lethal accuracy for and extra crit multiplier. With mythic power attack, his crits are pretty decent (a few hundred or so, usually several a round), so his damage output is pretty good for a merc who just stands behind everyone else and does his thing without any real micromanagement.
      The main problem I have found is that bloodrager becomes fatigued after rage and can't rage again until it wears off, which I guess you can fix by staying pure to L20, or in my case its simpler as I just cast the undead buff on him as a lich that makes him immune to fatigue for 24h.

    From the monk archetypes, the sensei is also quite interesting to mention for his party buff potential during combat. Maybe not as a MC but a mercenary.
    He sacrifices some damage potential for himself but gets great stuff instead :
    - he can fill for a bard with his songs (combines well with Skald)
    - he gains the capacity to share his Ki powers with all the group
    -> he can apply barkskin on everyone (2 ki points) or cast restoration on the whole group
    -> he can add an attack for everyone in the group every turn as a free action,
    -> he can in the same turn use his action to give true strike to everyone in the group (+20 AB for every single group member on their first attack), every round at the cost of 1 Ki point each time.
    Due to his low damage output, it can be worth focusing on a tank build with that archetype with max WIS (which also applies to AB with monk weapons), crane line, unarmored buffs etc.
    It works quite well as a mercenary with Azata MC that can refresh his Ki points several times per rest or with an Aeon MC : True Strike for the first attack of the Aeon charged with the Bane Dispel abality to remove buffs on the enemy and cheese the rest of the fight.

    Trying to make a Demon Mythic Path Monk/Unarmed attacker playthrough, but I can never figure out what I wanna do after Monk - Scaled Fist 3 Lvls and Alchemist - Vivi 1 Lvl. I went Half Orc - Human Raised because I don't care about the Weapon Familiarity as an unarmed attacker or the Last Stand racial's. Instead I took Weapon Finesse so I can use Dex instead of Str for attack rolls and Dodge from the Scaled Fist feat. I planned to add the Gore/Bite feats Half-Orcs can get as well somewhere in the build. I know a certain Tiefling subrace can get this as well but I didn't want to take a negative to ability stats for it. So ya, not sure where to go from here, and I have 16 lvls to go. I was thinking of maybe one of the Inquisitor sub classes and or the Demonslayer subclass from, I think, Ranger. I want the Favored Enemy passives it offers. Maybe the Monk/Barb subclass (I forget the name). Other thank that Idk what to go into.

    Crossblooded is a great dip for an elemental caster who isnt a sorcerer, but a terrible archetype for an actual sorcerer. You end up not having access to new spell levels (other than metamagic) until a level later, and sorcs already have slower spell progression. And losing an extra spell pick to be saddled with the preset spell list of another bloodline is nearly always a terrible option, particularly when you can already take 2nd bloodline as a mythic ability. If the spells between bloodlines dont overlap (and they often do), its still very unlikely the worst spell selection of 3 bloodlines is going to be better than your own pick. And in terms of bloodline powers, you only get to keep the first level bloodline ability. This is never a good trade.

    • @cRPGBro
      @cRPGBro ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I suppose it can be great for a dip since the main downside of slower spellcasting progression wouldn't apply! (Besides the 1 loss from Crossblooded over your other spellcasting class anyways).

      @notalefty999 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cRPGBro As a dip, I would generally take it late rather than early. The difference between caster level 4 and 5, for example, is substantial, the difference between 19 and 20 much less so. trading your 20th wizard level for +2 damage per dice rolled for a damage dealing wizard is a good trade, espcially given that you add 3 caster levels from robe of seven sins and most damage progressions caps out at 20.

    Ele engine doesnt really lose supercharge, as its baked into their feature of being at max burn. However, it is worse imo. After accounting for the loss of size bonuses, the bonus to hit and damage is roughly halved, you are FAR less durable with very low effective health and no fortification bonus, nor bonus dex and con. Also, being max burn means no ability to use burn in combat at all, so no quickened blast (which is highly situational, but potentially very strong), and no wild talents that cost burn (admittedly, I dont miss this much).

      Yes, since they only scale based on Witch levels.
      However, at least for my Ember Build, the reason I go into Loremaster at a certain point is because by then Ember already has the best Hexes and does not need to rely on higher DC for example from Slumber Hex when she has lots of casts for powerful CC spells with vastly higher DC like Greater Command and Overwhelming Presence.

Apparently my plan for Ember's LevelUp isn't such a good idea after all. Ember is currently level 10 for me and I don't think I can reset it in the "unfair" difficulty level. I would disagree that primalist is better than greenrider. As mentioned, it stacks poorly with skald, but even without this, pounce, +6 to hit, +1 crit mutliplier and a bite attack is all good, but only on one character, its not enough to fully offset the loss of a pet and virtually all your bloodline powers.
    In general though, I think bloodline powers and bloodrager spellcasting is a really lousy trade for rage powers, and as for the primalist, you could just take mad dog for a clearly superior class. The main issue is that the spellcasting is overwhelmingly offensive spellcasting, but without anything like spell combat or spell critical to cast whilst attacking. When exactly does it make sense to cast a fireball or scorching ray over just attacking?

    • @cRPGBro

    Arcane rider is great. You didnt mention greater arcane ride, which is actually amazingly good. Repositioning both you and the pet as a swift action without provoking any AoO (which are a serious problem for mounted characters who tend to neglect AC) is great utility and a significant damage increase in practice, allowing you to get far more full attack actions (and therefore a lot more use out of spell combat). Add on holy, bane dimension strike and you probably have one of the most damaging pets in the game. They give up armour, which whilst mounted is basically irrelevant, and restoring spell slots with arcane pool, but particularly with greater arcane ride, you absolutely dont want to do this.
    And I am glad to hear someone not claim the sword saint is some god like class. Its not. You lose true magus (-2AB) and sense vitals (5d6 per hit). You get great initiative, usually add int to damage on the first round of combat, can skip combat reflexes and can take an exotic weapon focus for free, and higher level fighter feats. The 2 feats you save will probably be spent on additional fighter feats. However, you lose a few magus arcana, you still cannot tank very well and is certainly less tanky than a well built horse (at least as a pure sword saint, they can be very effective tanks if multiclassed). Perfect strike adds little damage, and perfect critical drains arcane pool insanely fast. Unlike pnp, you have to have it toggled on in advance; you cannot decide on a per hit basis when to apply it, so its extremely wasteful. They lose a lot more than arcane rider, and the benefits are much smaller.
    I also think Eldritch archer is a notable archetype. It should be mentioned that they do spell combat WAY better. Firstly, being completely immobile in order to use it is far more practical if ranged than if melee, and secondly, the ranged touch attack spells are MUCH stronger than melee touch attack spells.

    • @cRPGBro
      @cRPGBro ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My main issue with Sword Saint is how easily outclassed I feel it is by Arcane Rider.
      While you can ignore AC through reach, and SS can even get Fauchard for free at level 1, I still think even the Horse will eventually add vastly more than SS bonuses.
      Eldritch Archer can be pretty fun indeed, especially with SA added. Being able to throw Acid Splash + Bow Attack, both with SA even at around level 2 can make for fun times.

    I agree with most of these, especially Mutation Warrior (my third favorite archetype in the game). Only things I don't see eye to eye is Warrior of the Holy Light, just because of how strong their auras become and if you need spells used just get your use magic device up. Crossblooded for me is the best sorcerer variant, but only because it's the most thematic in my eyes (primarily because of how I play it. SPOILERS, you've already got two bloodlines if you go half-elf, throw sorcerer on there you get another, plus in the lore you've got some other dudes soul mashed up and tied to yours, so why not throw a few more bloodlines on there to really embody the whole 'I am a true culmination of pure arcane power'?).

    If you're going to throw everyone on a pet it doesn't matter as much but for roleplaying reasons you might not. Like you can get a pet for Camellia but there is no way she would be willing to ride a dog so it makes less sense. Cammy taking barbarian levels, yeah I can see that. Especially towards the end game where her underlying personality has more space to come out. Sosiel would ride a dog but he would make it fat by giving it too many treats. Regill would kick the dog to death and shouldn't be given one

    Only hard disagree I have with your list is exploiter wizard. Yes, you can add +2 spell DC a handful of times per day (wizard is one of the classes you are most likely to multiclass, so your reservoir, being based on class rather than caster level, is extremely limited). I dont think the bonus is worth a spell slot per level (or two in the case of Thassilonian specialist), and I would certainly rate it significant worse than elemental specialist.
    Being able to convert all elemental damage into fire, particularly with ascendant element, is incredibly useful. There are some powerful spells like stormbolts and caustic spray and eruption that would otherwise see very limited use, as its hard to justify taking multiple ascendant elements, and fire has scorching ray, hellfire ray and sirocco, as well as very substantial bonuses through gear, including unlimited and extremely consistent to apply fire vulnerability late game. I really dont think bane of spirit, requiring a use per round, which is incredibly inconvenient, is a reasonable alternative. If you arent going lich or focussing exclusively on phantasmal killer/weird, I think elemental specialist is must for a damage dealing wizard.
    And if I was playing Lich, thassilonian specialist wrath is preferable imo. You dont lose mythic spells of the opposition school, nor do you have to use extra spell slots to memorise them, and 2 extra evocation spells per day is a lot of extra firepower. Gluttony might seem an obvious choice, but you cannot slot mythic necromancy spells in your specialist spells slots unfortunately. The extra spell DC doesnt help Lich much anyway.

    • @cRPGBro
      @cRPGBro ปีที่แล้ว

      I think my only issue with Wizard is that usually I'd just go Lich and spam the Lich spells instead of Evocation ones and such.
      I find it really hard to go for elemental damage due to how LONG it takes to properly get amazing damage going AoE wise from it.
      And it's really disappointing that for some strange reason Thassilonian cannot add the Mythic spells to their Specialist Slots if Necromancy.
      Also, Abundant Casting usually fixes most of my spell slot concerns, which I think also reduced the main advantage of Specialists or Thassilonian.

    As for sorcerer I'm not sure if it's true for sylvan and sage sorcerer but empyreal can't take second bloodline using mythic feats so i guess same should apply for other bloodline locked subclasses.
    As for oracle i disagree completely. Most revelations are completely worthless. Animal companion and weapon mastery are the best, combat healer is decent and rest of them is irrelevant. @@alvek230 Most of the great Revelations are actually passives, so always in effect.
      For example, Nature offers:
      1. Full scaling Pet
      2. Aura that grants a massive Sacred boost to ALL Saves of all pets in the party equal to the Oracle's CHA Mod
      3. CHA Mod to Oracle's AC instead of DEX
      And then Battle:
      1. Rolling Initiative 3 times and picking the best result
      2. Free Weapon Focus, Improved Critical and even Greater Weapon Focus (all come from same Revelation).
      Unlike Feats, these cannot really be achieved in any other way, at least not while keeping to the Oracle class, and some are Oracle only too.

      @@cRPGBro oh i completely forgot that friend to animal gives those sacred saves.
      Now i see where are you coming from. For Seeker pet, saves and weapon mastery would come by lvl 11 and initiative rolls late on lvl 19. On regular Oracle you are done with all those revelations by lvl 11. I don't count CHA to AC since we wil ride pet anyway.
      I guess now it boils down to preferences since i can see myself living in a world without AC and initiative rerolls 😃

    When i monk, i do the ray park monk for tripping quarterstaff dunks.
    Yes, there are no good quarterstaffs by default, thats what buffs are for. Buff the staff, cave in the head.

    You shouldn't be recommending Spawn Slayer because its unique ability doesn't do anything.

      @@cRPGBro I want to mention animal buffs from hunter animal focus are inherent bonuses from this patch, so it stacks with bull strength etc.
