I just _love_ how completely unconcerned Ardyn is with coming across as sincerely amicable throughout this entire scene. I mean, you can actually _hear_ the condecending smugness dripping off his voice. He simply doesn't even care enough to even _pretend_ like he's there in order to make peace; he throws a peace agreement that's basically a declaration of genocide straight into Regis' face, knowing full well that Regis will have to agree to it, and he does it with a tone that implies that he has half a mind to admit to Regis that "all of this is obviously complete bullshit, we're gonna kill you all, I'm gonna fuck up your son's life, and I even brought a dog along, all the way from Gralea, specifically so I could tapdance all over a piece of dogshit before I stepped into the palace; I'm currently wiping off my shoes all over your fancy carpet, your majesty, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent any of this from happening, neener neener."
You can tell regis was seeing through him from the beginning, like he knew he couldn't step out of line with this dude. In fact it was the second Ardyn stamped on the first step that hinted to regis something as different about him i think. Powerful body language in this scene.

This actually fits this scene very well. I wish they would've played his theme in this scene in Kingsglaive. It further heightens Ardyn's manipulative and convincing nature.
While it does fit the scene, it conveys a very different emotion and I'm not sure which I prefer. This theme paints the situation as far less serious, with Ardyn just playing around in his usual mysterious but not immediately threatening way. kinda like Kefka's early appearances which are more comical in nature. The one in the movie conveyed a darker atmosphere, especially as Ardyn so boldly walked up to the throne as though it was his own... As though he was actually so powerful that he could go up and pat the king's shoulder and there was absolutely nothing anyone else could do about it. Coupled with the terms themselves, and Regis' severe expression, I liked the score in Kingsglaive.

This scene just hits so differently after Episode Ardyn. It's one thing that I can't hate the villain that much, but his interactions with Regis... knowing these two actually met before, fought before, and Regis knows perfectly well, that he can't actually stop Ardyn if he tries anything...
I know this comment is two years old and all, but Regis didn't know anything about Ardyn Izunia. The name Ardyn was lost in time. Regis and all the other kings before him knew "Ardyn" only by the name Adagium. And during the fight they had in the DLC Ardyn was using the guards likeness. The Episode don't let it explicit because we play with Ardyn's model, since playing with a random guard would be kind of disappointing, but during cutscenes we have some scenes, including the one before Regis boss battle, that imply Ardyn's appearance still being the random guard. And the book Dawn of the Future confirms that Ardyn stayed as a random guard during the whole attack. If you play the DLC someday in the future listen to the Lucian comms. They basically say that a random guard is the apparent cause of all the madness.
Imagine if King Regis simply said “sure, you can have our city, it’s all yours.” Ardyn would’ve been like “wtf.. why?? That’s not satisfying at all.” Ardyn wanted conflict, and he wanted to annoy the shit out of both Regis and Noctis as much as possible. If they would’ve just given Ardyn what he wanted in kings glaive there probably wouldn’t have been any conflict. Although one of Ardyn’s main goals was to kill a lot of people that Noctis loved so he probably would’ve killed Regis anyways
And so the stage is set, with the prince of a stolen throne, a relative to the king of thieves, will become the embodiment of light and end my suffering from darkness, and so my endless tortured soul will cease by the false but true proclaimed king. Such a great story and theme.
This speech gets even better when you realize he has been telling the plain truth the whole time. "Like you we wish nothing more than to bring a swift end to this senseless war." He came to Lucis to offer *terms* of piece, not *piece.*
Ardyn is the type of guy who would quietly break into a stranger's house while they were in the shower, flush the toilet for the scream and chuckle darkly outside the bathroom door loud enough for his victim to hear that someone is in the house with them as he boldly leaves the house with the front door left wide open, tipping his hat jovially to the person's neighbors as he goes.
Once The Founder King had sauntered/swaggered/slithered off from the throne room and back into the security of the shadows, I bet it took some poor janitor at least 2 dedicated hours to mop up the trail of smug self-satisfaction that oozes from Ardyn's every Starscourged pore... which I guarantee you smells exactly like Sex Panther.
I love this theme, and I kind of thought I would enjoy it with the scene --- but I'm a little surprised to say I prefer it without it. Regis had no clue Ardyn was the same person he fought as "Adageium" several years prior to this confrontation as Ardyn used a clever ruse to deceive him back then into thinking he was fighting a possessed crown city officer. bahamut if he did mention it to Regis later probably didnt mention him by his real name but likely as the spreader of darkness and probably didnt mention that he served the empire as its chancellor either since Bahamut's goal was to completely eradicate Ardyn along with the scourge from existance but he needed Noctis to take Regis' place as that was the will of the crystal an as such Noctis would become the sacrificial pawn that saves the world, a role that was originally supposed to fall to Ardyn, but Area Nox Fleuret his fiance couldnt accept that outcome and she defied Bahamut's orders and told Somnus that he was chosen by the crystal instead so that Ardyn wouldnt have to sacrifice his life when he already was doing so much to ease the burden of his people. Somnus took advantage of this an lured Ardyn to the palace so he could kill him an claim the thrown while exposing Ardyn as a false saviour who was corrupted by the plague.
If this would get live action adaption, then I would go only with Johny Depp to play Ardyn. He fits to this role perfectly when you see his Grinderwald and Jack Sparrow's scenes.
After playing Episode: Ardyn, I now know why Regis and the others didn’t just attack/capture Ardyn. They (and Regis especially) knew that Ardyn wouldn’t let them.

Ardyn is an important figure in the empire, the fact he came to Insomnia without guards and demand their surrender on their own turf is pretty ballsy on its own.
The guy in the game did a better job I think, though Kingsglaive was just a publicity stunt, so it wasn't about consistent characters just grabbing names. Though Nyx Ulfric's voice actor was pretty damn good.
The people in charge of the FFXV and Kingsglaive use of musical scores fucking sucked ass. This scene is SO much better with the theme in the background. And they had such a good soundtrack for the game, but they barely used some of the songs at all? Add them everywhere!

There's a debate of that omen trailer whether that was Ardyn or Bahamut; if that was Ardyn, it would mean the kings somewhat are aware of the saviour's precense but dont know his identity, becuase he was erased from history.
It seems Ardyn want to take down Insomnia using soft power. But Emperor Niffelheim wants totally destroyed Insomnia. So that's why he disappointed and killed the emperor? *my theory*
If we follow the Episode:Ardyn Plot, Regis should recognize Ardyn the moment he steps through these doors. But Kingsglaive came out way earlier than Episode:Ardyn so that's probably the reason Still a funny plothole in my opinion :) Also if he recognized him the huge FFXV Story twist that Ardyn is the mastermind would have been ruined so yeah
Even if Regis did recognize him, what then? Would he just lose his shit and command a full-out assault on him? I think even if he did remember and know he was adagium, he wouldn't be bold enough to have a rematch. So he did what was the most wise and listened to his offer.

Did King Regis know who Ardyn was?
I personally think it's likely, since Regis had direct correspondence with Bahamut, who knew Ardyn's true identity.
@DeadMemes NeedToStayDead in this specific scene the way Regis visibly tenses up and leans forward defensively has leagues more impact after knowing they fought before
Regis had no clue Ardyn was the same person he fought as "Adageium" several years prior to this confrontation as Ardyn used a clever ruse to deceive him back then into thinking he was fighting a possessed crown city officer. bahamut if he did mention it to Regis later probably didnt mention him by his real name but likely as the spreader of darkness and probably didnt mention that he served the empire as its chancellor either since Bahamut's goal was to completely eradicate Ardyn along with the scourge from existance but he needed Noctis to take Regis' place as that was the will of the crystal an as such Noctis would become the sacrificial pawn that saves the world, a role that was originally supposed to fall to Ardyn, but Area Nox Fleuret his fiance couldnt accept that outcome and she defied Bahamut's orders and told Somnus that he was chosen by the crystal instead so that Ardyn wouldnt have to sacrifice his life when he already was doing so much to ease the burden of his people. Somnus took advantage of this an lured Ardyn to the palace so he could kill him an claim the thrown while exposing Ardyn as a false saviour who was corrupted by the plague.

They could've made Ardyn look a little more like the real thing. They nailed the acting though.
When you realize that Ardyn and Regis fought each other so many years ago and Regis almost lost his life if not for Bahamut..

After playing Episode: Ardyn, I now know why Regis and the others didn’t just attack/capture Ardyn. They (and Regis especially) knew that Ardyn wouldn’t let them.
Well, Regis doesn't know that this is the same guy he fought years ago. Ardyn disguised himself as a Lucian guard when he attacked Regis.

@@gamingdemigodxiii5630 That's the thing, no one in the royal family knew who or what Ardyn looked like. Based on Regis' reaction towards him, they only knew that there's a daemon by the name of Adagium and that he's far too dangerous to be out in the open.

@@gamingdemigodxiii5630 I dunno, but I guess the reason why Regis was surprised by Ardyn's appearance is that he is the imperial chancellor of Niflheim, their sworn enemy. Ardyn is an important figure in the empire, the fact he came to Insomnia without guards and demand their surrender on their own turf is pretty ballsy on its own.

The guy in the game did a better job I think, though Kingsglaive was just a publicity stunt, so it wasn't about consistent characters just grabbing names. Though Nyx Ulfric's voice actor was pretty damn good.

You can see some of the facial similarities between Regis and Ardyn.
Regis knows who Ardyn is due to their previous fight. He knows that you cannot mess around with the Chancellor of Nifilheim.
The people in charge of the FFXV and Kingsglaive use of musical scores fucking sucked ass. This scene is SO much better with the theme in the background. And they had such a good soundtrack for the game, but they barely used some of the songs at all? Add them everywhere!
You shoild've used the seond theme of Ardyn. That would've served the scene better.

@@horsepigman are you blind? Before ardyn fight Somnus king Regis realized that he is adagium and fight him. Several years later in the movie kingsglaive he appeared as the chancellor of Niff and seek to an audience with older king regis

He didn't... until he stamped on the first step, thats when regis didn't comment and was observing, he knew he was dangerous after that 1 move.
There's a debate of that omen trailer whether that was Ardyn or Bahamut; if that was Ardyn, it would mean the kings somewhat are aware of the saviour's precense but dont know his identity, becuase he was erased from history.
Doubt it. Remember, Lucis erased Ardyn from history. Only the Astrals were aware of him.
I always wondered the same thing. Regis was aware of Noctis' destiny of chosen king but not aware of Ardyn.

If we follow the Episode:Ardyn Plot, Regis should recognize Ardyn the moment he steps through these doors. But Kingsglaive came out way earlier than Episode:Ardyn so that's probably the reason
