    I’m so glad I stumbled across this video. I’ve been using a similar process but a much less robust version for my cabinet shop

      Were you using SketchUp and CabinetSense already? Thanks for commenting

    Probably the earliest I've seen you release a video but still totally worth watching it!!!

      It was late in the day in Vancouver! Hey, I’ve been listening to the audiobook you recommended - very profound

    Very informative mate🤝 some of those extensions I am definitely going to look into. I would like to give the dynamic components a try though. Great video

    Thanks for the video! I’m wondering how you are able to scale the cabinet without changing the thickness of the material/board. I’ve tried to figure out how to make it work but it never seems to work. For example: I have made a cupboard of 16mm board and it’s 700mm wide and I want to scale it to 1000mm but whenever I scale it to that, one of the boards turns into 22mm thickness instead of 16mm. Is there easy way around this?

      Hi, you need to learn dynamic components. Or, get the cabinetsense extension which has the formulas built into it's library components

    Do you ever worry about SketchUp going away? I love it myself and use it at work but I worry when I only see 6-7 people watching their weekly live streams. All the best, Jon

      Oh no I don’t worry about that at all since Trimble took it over from Google, and after seeing 3DBasecamp. They are investing heavily in it, coming up with new ideas all the time, making it more connected to other Trimble software and services. I think if anything it’s going to grow in popularity and market share

      Sketchup up is very intuitive and fairly easy to learn. People might not tune into thoer very informative live streams etc but the number of users they have is growing. Just go through the 3d warehouse. Even various tv shows are incorporating the software.

    I started using Fusion 360 about half a year ago, intermittently, though. It has a few usability issues that make me look for alternatives. Have you've given Fusion a spin and could point at the strengths and weaknesses of both Fusion and SketchUp when compared to each other?

    • @Alastair_Freebird
      @Alastair_Freebird  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am extremely impressed by what I have seen of Fusion. I mean the way you start with a 2D drawing that determines parameters; and the timeline of changes along the bottom of the screen that can be re edited at any point… it blew my mind it was so clever. And a lot of woodworkers were talking about it like the best option. So I booked an hour or so with one of Fusion’s own trainers. I showed him what I’m doing with cabinets in Sketchup and said ‘tell me honestly, should I be switching over to Fusion?’. His answer was no, for what I’m doing , Sketchup probably does it better. I wish I could remember more of the detail because we did explore it a bit, but I think he suggested fusion was better for working on one piece/cabinet at a time, but with a library of cabinets, and getting them to snap and align to each other and that sort of thing - perhaps also the way dividers can auto resize to fill a shelf gap - he thought SketchUp did it better
