I know this is old but thanks for the tab and cover! I've been playing for about three months now and this will be the most difficult song I know but your video is great to play along to. Awesome stuff and I like how this sounds
It difficult because in reality it’s a guitar player who was thrust into the role of bass who literally played the bass lines like he would play guitar except on bass. I don’t know if that makes any sense. Ed Keep ng was a guitar player in the Strawberry Alarm Clock band who needed a job and Lynyrd Skynyrd needed a bass player because Leon Wilkinson left the band. So Ed who played guitar was offered the job.
thank you very much. That's very kind of you to say. I used to play this years ago and I missed a lot of things. It wasn't until I transcribed it and closely listened that I discovered all the little details. Thanks again :)
Nice to see somebody using a 5-string to write tab with. I like the actual notation even better. Great job. I used to have that same bass with the ESP not EMG pickups in it. I think that's an FM 305 maybe? I wish I still had it even though it is very heavy.
Greg you always choose great songs with interesting bass lines. How about Julie Do You Love Me by Bobby Sherman? It's got a nice bass line which is a little hard to hear and no one has posted tabs on TH-cam.
Great transcription. Easy to learn with sheet music transcription. I wonder why you used the 5th fret on the A string with your pinky so much instead of the open D string. The 5th fret is a little more unwieldy in my opinion. Just a difference of playing style though.
Hi, thanks for the comment. I'm glad you liked it :) As for using the 5th fret instead of the open string. It's a matter of preference, but I think a fretted string is easier to control than an open string...imo. Thanks!
Every time I need to pause the TH-cam progress bar covers up the tabs. Super frustrating. Perhaps in future videos put the music and tabs at the top. Also the song was written and played on a 4 sting bass, why confuse the viewer by playing a 5 string, it really hard to see what you're playing.
Yeah people.... I love many different genres, I saw Skynyrd live in South Florida in 77, one of my first concerts. To this day one of the best live shows I've ever seen and I've probably seen hundreds at this point. I suppose some people ridicule that which they don't understand. I'm in a circle with many talented and accomplished musicians and all of them respect LS., even the "jazz snobs".
hey Ernie! Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate it :) I'm not sure what's going on with the "notification bell" you're talking about? Have you tried refreshing your page or restarting the browser? If it keeps happening, let me know and I'll see what I can do at my end...thanks!
Finally a tab where it's actually played like the song...thanks alot
hey Cameron...cheers! :)
THIS is how to do it! Great video. Sound, notes, and tabs. Outstanding teaching aide. I suck at bass, but this, at least, gives me hope.
Hi Ken! Thanks very much for the comment. I glad the video helps. Bass is like anything, just stay with it ;)
I know this is old but thanks for the tab and cover! I've been playing for about three months now and this will be the most difficult song I know but your video is great to play along to. Awesome stuff and I like how this sounds
that's very cool you're learning this one...and after only 3 months! Good for you :) Keep it up and thanks for the comment.

Excellent cover, played perfectly. What a cool, groovy bass line. Great upload!
thanks Jupiter...it's a fun line to play! :)
Stunningly accurate!!
Thanks!
wow. this shows me that even if i can play this song, its somethin complety different if someone with skill like you have plays it. much respect.
thank you very much. That's very kind of you to say. I used to play this years ago and I missed a lot of things. It wasn't until I transcribed it and closely listened that I discovered all the little details. Thanks again :)
Great cover Greg! There is not enough Skynard transcriptions in the world! :-)
Thank you Clarke...I agree :)

Hey Bill, I forget which model this ESP is (it's back in Canada)? It's a nice bass though and I liked playing it. Thanks for the comment ;)
That is an incredible job, Greg.
Thanks very much Sam :)
Great tab! Thanks so much!
Glad you like it...thanks!
What a great bass player you are! Thanks
thank you very much Johnny :)
Wow, beautiful work.
Thank you very much :)
Good job Greg, (as usual).
thanks ;)
Awesome music! Awesome song!
thanks Jason :)
Fantastic job, Greg. Oh boy-this one will make my brain hurt a bit.
Thanks very much :) Take your time and have fun with it ;)
Holy Fuck Dude!! Badass 🤘 Perfectly played
haha...thanks :)

hmmm...I don't know that one. I'll check i out...thank you :)

I think I finally have this down. What a nightmare of a song to learn but this will make you a much better player
I like your outlook ;) Keep it up!
Excellent Greg. have you considered covering "That Smell "?
hey DoctorB! I haven't thought of that one...maybe I should add it to the loooong list? ;)
@@BassCovers I am working on those 2 right now as I start a new project. rock on Greg !
great job.. thanks for posting this!!
hi Michael...you're very welcome...thank you :)
Hey Greg do how did you get Skynyrd’s tone. Or do you know what effects/pedals the bassist used on this song?
Hi Joseph, thanks for the question. I just played around with knobs until it sounds close. Using a pick helped too I think ;) Thanks!
Yep that's the part, now I can show my bass player how to play this. Thanks man
hehe...no problem :)
Very accurate, but the opening riff is a octave higher and I play the D A power chord moving my index finger from D to Db respectively.
thanks, but I have no idea what opening riff you're talking about that's an octave higher? As for fingering...do what feels good for you...thanks ;)
Didn't he use a Gibson Thunderbird?
I have no idea...

thank you :)
People make fun of Lynyrd Skynyrd, but they knew how to play.
they sure did! ;)

I thought leon was the main bass player?
Ya, I thought so too?
If I remember the history correctly, after the departure of the original bassist Ed King played bass until Leon came around
''(I'll keep ringing until TH-cam leaves it, thereby NOT preventing me from being notified!)'' - GrrrrAte!
hey Ernie! Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate it :) I'm not sure what's going on with the "notification bell" you're talking about? Have you tried refreshing your page or restarting the browser? If it keeps happening, let me know and I'll see what I can do at my end...thanks!
6 string bass sounds awesome, but won't us 4 stringers may have to play it differently?
I think there's only 5 strings and I'm pretty sure I didn't use the low B. The TAB is for a 4 string. It's all good :)
5 string and you only used the four strings...
