I loved Annabella and Bow Wow Wow, but she does not really have the type of story that fits well on a kids show. What was the part where she would not say how old she was when Malcom McLaren "discovered" her? I am pretty sure it was 13 or 14, and the massage part sounds a little scary. Uh....sounds like she had an interesting childhood.
After reading and watching a lot of interviews with Annabella it seems she gets really irritated when people say she was working in a laundrette/laundromat when she was discovered. A couple of times she firmly points out that she worked in a dry cleaners, not a laundromat. In this particular video you can see she kind of gets a little ticked off when the interviewer mentions the word 'laundrette' for the second time @ 0:48.
Um, this story gets retold and distorted, I believe it was a dry cleaners where one of Malcolm's scouts 'found' her. The scout is even named somewhere.

Malcolm McLaren tried to manufacture controversy around Bow Wow Wow, by creating a paedophile scandal centered on a youth magazine (initally called Playkids, then retitled Chicken) which ended up being shelved as unpublishable; the Sunday tabloids got hold of (read: were fed) the story at the time, and did exactly what he intended them to do with it. I imagine that McLaren was aware of the lurid goings-on in the music industry regarding underaged fans at the time (though possibly not too many of the details) and wanted to open a can of worms, in search of ways to profit from it. If one listens to many of Bow Wow Wow's lyrics (which McLaren had a hand in writing), some of them hold up a mirror to, and in some ways celebrate(?), the exploitation that was relatively commonplace in the industry.
