All your fly tying videos are incredible. I never get tired of seeing them over and over again. But for me this is one of the best along with glass shrimp.
this fly has worked excellent for me on my local stillwater tied it with different colour on the throat..red,yellow,hot orange.. my i say they all work...love watching your video's you are an artist ..all the best..
revisited this video this morning in prep for tying up a few more of these for next season...it has become my favorite brook trout fly in recent years ....thanks again for sharing
I have been tying your Mallard Baitfish fly and your Craft Fur Mickey Finn and having great success with them here in Nova Scotia. Canada fishing Brook Trout this spring ....both patterns are fantastic . Thanks for sharing.
Excellent pattern, like the use of the colored resin, I would really like to see more patterns and more complicated patterns using the colored resins especially with the new SOLAREZ colored resins. Thanks. L 🤣🎣👍
happy bday from sunny south florida (ft. lauderdale) i was just going to tie a gartside soft hackle streamer and palmer a mallard feather for the head when i came across your video!!!
Very nice. It's a simple, elegant tie - and looks outright "fishy" - I'm gonna tie a few !! :-) I betcha dollars-to-donuts this would catch trout AND bass. Thanks for posting this !! :-)
Very nice pattern - perfect design to imitate the local baitfish! Lucky that I just happen to have a good supply of mallard flank feathers :-) Cheers from Ontario, Canada! Hank
Chris Summers thanks! That is a c&f Design bobbin.. A bit expensive but it’s the best I’ve ever owned.. It has foam under the tube wich stops the thread from falling out if it breaks.. A bit harder to Thread but it’s more annoying having to re-thread if it breaks wich it does for everyone.. 🙋🏼♂️😊
Can you tell me what vice you use and which bobbins are best? Ceramic, wood etc? Also Hauoli lā hanau! Pronounced How oh Lee. Lah hah now! It means Happy birthday in Hawaiian! Aloha! I am happy to have subscribed to your site!
Thanks you so Much! The vise is called “the reference” and is from c&f design. Bobbin is also from c&f design. Best ive had. Also the tmc bobbins are very Nice. A tiny bit smaller but also ceramic. I would always go for ceramic. 💯
Here's copied info on that Ahrex hook : Curved hook specifically designed for Gammarus Patterns. The lightweight wire allows the flies tied on this hook to be fished in shallow waters. If you want to add weight, it is easily done without ruining the hooking capabilities, due to a large hook gape. My note : It looks rather like one of those Gamakatsu octopus\circle hooks to me. Black Nickel Finish Available in size 1/0 - 12 Chemically sharpened with small barb
Please be safe! It is probably not a good idea to point the light towards your eyes…!! It generates UV light and could harm them!! Great minnow fly that should be a killer pattern! Thanks!
You tie a nice minnow! But that is not a palmered hackle you add to the first two mallard feathers on your hook. It is a collar. A palmered hackle is wound the length of the body on the shank as you would rib a fly. I am correcting so inexperienced tiers are not confused by your misspoken terminology! Keep on tying... otherwise very good!

Maybe I should do one in a brighter color soon! 😊🤔
Simplicity is a blessed thing! This is a great pattern with many variables possible. Thank you!
