One more video I didn't really plan this way. I started watching Mo Dao Zu Shi a few weeks ago (I'm currently reading the novel), and I was immediately captured by the beautiful animation, the haunting music, and the characters. It's a classic high-fantasy, without bigger surprises if you know the genre well, but I still rooted for the heroes, laughed, hoped and felt sad. I originally wanted a tribute that focuses on everyone, the losses they suffered, and how they overcame them. But when I heard this cover of "I see fire", the flute and the guitar in it, and thought a bit more on the lyrics, I realised that it just won't work, I have to stick to Wei Wuxian's path, and save the others for other videos.
I still wanted to show this classical high-fantasy feel, so I decided to make the video a little bit like a tale... told from Wei's point of view, but supported by Lan Zhan, both in the music (the zither works amazingly for the guitar parts), and at some parts in the story - while he has his own struggles, strenghts and weaknesses, his connection to the main character gives him a unique perspective, that supports and contradicts Wei's at the same time. This is the main reason for the many drawn parts, for which I used the openings - I tried to keep the feeling that this is actually a tale, a remembrance.
I hope you enjoy the video, and as always, I do not own anything - this cover of "I see fire" belongs to Celtic Woman, and Mo Dao Zu Shi belongs to it's original creators.

You’re not alone
Every adaptation of this story gives me a knot in my throat. It's so sad but so beautiful at the same time. There are so many iconic quotes from this story that really hits deep, not just in the context of the story but in real life as well. Aside from the entertainment, a lot of lessons can be learned from the story, and that's what makes it so good.
1. "Who cares about the crowded, broad road? I'll walk the single-plank bridge into the night"
2. "Let the self judge the right and the wrongs, let others decide to praise or to blame and let the losses and gains remain uncommented on."
3. "There are two cringeworthy phrases in one's life that must be said, no matter what: 'Thank you' and 'I'm sorry'."
4. "When you're looking at someone, you should not use black and white to judge them. What matters is what their heart believes in."

My absolute favourite quote from Chen Qing Ling/Mo Dao Zu Shi.
It clearly tells Wei Ying's mindset and really the whole core of the novel.

oooo and the addition of "maybe it's not so dark" right after as the wen remnants light up the path and ask him to join for dinner. in the drama version, a-yuan says 'it's not dark at all' in his cute little voice and waving his hands and both versions of this line hurt me so much
You know, after a couple of months of drowning myself in this novel, I thought that it was finally time to stop crying about it. To stop shedding tears the second I am even slightly reminded of it; like the wound that it had ripped into my heart had begun to heal at long last.
But you know, that was really dumb of me to even dare to think that. Such arrogance - and this AMV was like a slap in the face punishing me for that arrogance.
That's it, I won't be foolish enough to think that way anymore. I have accepted my fate - and apparently, that fate is to obsess over this novel for as long as I live.

4:07 is my favorite part, it's so dark and makes you question why you liked him in the first place
I'm so happy for this comment. I absolutely loved that Wei was portrayed as dark at some parts of the story. As much as I like the character (obviously, since he is the central character of this video), he is in many ways an anti-hero, who eventually finds his way back, and doesn't slip completely, but certainly does bad things. I often feel that this darker side gets forgotten, because it's so easy to sympathize with him - it's great you pointed it out.

Omg you described exactly what I had in my mind while reading this particular scene!CQl never really showed the intensity of his darker side so when I finally read the novel I found him quite terrifying! I don't consider him as evil but he certainly did some evil things which made me question

Love it, and love the (perhaps accidental) parallels with Lord of the Rings you drew on by choosing this specific song! If I could change just one thing, I would have made it follow chronological order just a bit more closely, and end by focusing solely on the battle between Wuxian and all the other tribes, surrounded by the green flames. But you made up for that by associating the scenes pretty closely with the lyrics, and I especially loved how you pulled the zither and the flute into it-- that just made this whole thing wonderful! Thanks for the work!

Yes, looking back, I would follow chronological order more... I tried to focus on the atmosphere, that's why it is not really story centered, but it would have made it better.
The live action actors are now my imagination for elves (the ones that haven’t been shown in film yet at least)

The novel is amazing, you really will not regret a bit of it, the drama is good too, but if you read the novel first, you will be a little disappointed when watching the drama because the changes...

many anime adaptions like this arent really well known or at least to me this amv was amazing i would like to watch the anime and i would like to be recommended other anime made from Chinese or korean manga/ mahwa as many people dont make videos putting these on their list to watch next season etc so i would really enjoy if someone could recommend me a list or a few anime that are like this and are amazing and arent shown enough appreciation that they deserve. Thanks for making this amv although i havent watched it yet i still really enjoyed it and felt empathy for them.
I didn't really watch many chinese adaptations (and I am hungarian, so the list I look up for new donghua's is also on a hungarian website), but here are some, that I plan to watch:
Douluo Dalu, Dou Po Cang Qiong, Quan Zhi Gao Shou
I didn't see them yet, but they seemed promising, so I hope I will like them :) If any of them captures my attention, there is quite a big chance that I will make some videos with them, so stay tuned! And I am really happy you liked the AMV!
