    For everyone trashing the diamonds, what you should do is save the replays of your next 5 games, then go back and count the number of times you outright miss the ball. Whether a hard whiff, accidental backflip, misread or bad prediction, accidental back flip, bad aerial, etc. You'll probably be surprised by the results. Hell if you really want to humble yourself count the number of bad touches you make (sending away possession, centers to no one, weak touches one powershot attempts, strong touch on soft touch attempts, shitty clears, lost ball control, etc.) This looked like a not atypical diamond game. It might be lower end of quality for a diamond game, didn't look like they were playing their best, but not that uncommon to see games that look like that in diamond.
    People tend to forgot their worse games and remember their better ones. We have a distorted view of our own play and we selectively dismiss our bad play as "outliers" and think of our best play as "our real skill level". Anyone who thinks "there is no way those guys are diamond" is being delusional.

The rest were ez wins for current players because muscle memory alone would be good enough and they likely had some game sense at least. There are no game sense plats so they never stood a chance as retired plat vs current

    I quit years ago due to one of my normal players I teamed with turning outright toxic. Day after day he would just get angry and start Driving around flipping himself over bashing me out of the goal In competitive matches So I quit playing with him But the entire experience Kind of soured me on rocket league as a whole Going from right below grand champ and getting drug back down towards star over and over again. Got to me.
    I finally started playing again a few days ago and real talk rocket league muscle memory is a crazy thing. I'm still doing aerials, getting saves. Even got placed div 1 of diamond 3. Damn near champ. After years of not playing.
    It felt good but if I can manage to get to champ after less than 20 hours of being back and barely 400 hours while the other guy is to this day hardstuck in champ after damn near 7500 to 8000 hours it is going to feel amazing. I might even send him a picture saying something about only took 20 hours.

    Quitting a game and being better upon return is not an unheard of phenomenon. It happens to me with Tetris all the time. It has to do with setting bad habits and mental fatigue. If you play constantly, you get tired of playing the game and can also set bad habits. Taking a break (Though usually it's around a month instead of a year) can reset your mental state which makes it a lot easier to improve very quickly. Muscle memory is VERY persistent, especially if it's something you do all the time. I'm not surprised that it stayed after a year for the champs.

    Agreed. Once you get thrown to lower ranks and it's genuinely not your fault and you don't feel like carrying all 100% of matches, especially given that you have such horrible players around you that don't care to win at all and blame and throw on a whim the game just gets annoying, frustrating, and almost depressing. They need to have more ways to catch up on MMR or to balance out your MMR over the different modes maybe. At least throw in some different things and maps occasionally. It's like one of the most played games out there has just been given up on.

    • @anonihme5142
      @anonihme5142 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol. in rocket league if you’re better you win. if you’re not climbing its because you’re where you should be

    • @analogdistortion
      @analogdistortion ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anonihme5142 Do you really think it's that simple? Might be so on a 1v1 but in a 3v3 then do you not think that good teamwork is required and more importantly, expected? So let's say you clear and centre for the team every time you touch the ball, but your teammates both double commit and miss over and over again then does this make you a worse player than average? How about if every other game you have throwers that get annoyed with what you're doing because they assume it's your fault when in fact it's theirs and so they throw?

    • @anonihme5142
      @anonihme5142 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@analogdistortion it is that simple. you won't win every game but you'll win more then you lose, so you'll climb. if your team mates double commit and miss everything you'll have another game where the opposing team is missing everything and double commiting. If you are doing thing's right compared to your elo, you'll nudge the winrate in the right direction. No one is saying every loss is your fault, but if you are at a rank for a while, then it's your rank, and you'll climb when you get better. I reach my rank really quickly every season, then i'm stuck for a while, and when i finally get a little higher i know what i've improved to get there.
      If someone tilts on their team mates and forfaits, or insults them, then their mental (and education...) is poor, and mental is also a skill in this game. I don't care how "well" they play if they can't do it for 5 minutes straight without being a hindrance or lose it coz they start trolling instead of trying to comeback
      This is probably the fairest game with the highest skillcap i've ever played. I'm champ 2, i destroy diamonds and low champ 1s, I get destroyed by champ 3s and gcs, system is working. (of course, there's the incredible number of smurffs issue, but that is the same problem for everyone)

    I've taken years long breaks. Longest was 2017 until 2021. You don't lose your rank, and the players don't get much better. For context I was champ 1 peak in 2017 (top 1% back then), and when I came back in 2021 I was able to get up to GC1 (top 0.4%) in just a couple months. And during that time the meta saw the introduction of flip resets, ceiling shots, better flicks (that champs cant do), faster rotations, air roll left and right, etc. Pro 1v1s went from fairy peak ground play to daniel going for double resets every play. My mind was blown at that. But champ stayed the same. The fundamentals had not changed. (I took another break from 2021 to 2023, and I'm still at the same rank.)
    I see all over the place including in this video people claiming that players at x rank are much better than they were a year, two years, three years ago and that's just not true. The players who get better go up and the overall skill at a given rank stays the same. It's only at the highest percentiles that the meta is being pushed forward and players are actually better than they used to be. The vast majority of players don't know how to improve, don't have the discipline or run into roadblocks. Champ has always been where most players plateau. It's where players are good at the basics but fail to do more difficult things / fail to hone what they already have, and it has been that way for a long time.
    I can say that you at least start to see a significant difference in GC2, because there are a handful of retired pro players starting around there, so clearly those players have caught up a little bit since a few years ago. That's still on the order of three or four years (plus those pros not taking the game seriously anymore, and could rank up if they tried), not "champs last year look like diamonds now" like so many people say.
    The reason why the retired players struggled in this is just because they were wildly out of practice. A few sessions and they'd be back to where they were.

I am diamond 3 in 2s and my arials look like a bronze player, I barely know how to fast arial, and scoring a flick in game is considered a really good play from me. the funny part is that I have reached diamond multiple times with different teammates and I get MVP a lot so its not like I am being hard carried.

    I have Mechanics of a silver ( I'm just exaggerating a little fr ) yet I got to diamond 1 and I'm staying there for a while. You just have to be patient and punish dumb mistakes of your opponents, like trying absurd skills that they haven't mastered in ranked, leaving an open net.
