Thank you June. I'm an Englishman born and raised in the rough north-east during the fifties. Like yours, my dad didn't hug and didn't praise (he wasn't raised to behave that way). He did drink, but only ever at weekends, and then sometimes too much. But he loved us. He showed us this through his determination to work and support us all. Being on welfare, for him, was deeply shameful, and only happened on those very rare occasions when he couldn't find work; any work; no matter how hard. He was also very straight-thinking and principled and refused to go with the mob for the sake of safety. He was in a number of unions, but refused to obey the diktats of the union if he decided that they were making unreasonable demands of the employer. There were times he'd be the only man walking through the gates, into the factory while being screamed and spat at by his fellow workers as a scab. This didn't phase him; the most important thing for him was self-reliance and using his own brain to decide his destiny, not following the baying mob who (in the seventies) were screaming for ever-rising levels of pay causing hyper-inflation in the country. He hated Scargill. I'm glad he's dead because I couldn't face his disappointment and anger at how successive governments have betrayed the electorate. Thanks for commemorating your dad, June. Very heartfelt. 👍❤
This reminds me of my dad so much, my dad was a hard working man too didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, worked all his life, then had a massive stroke at the age of 51yrs old, then my mother looked after him for 27yrs. Unfortunately my mother passed away in jan 2024 I no longer have the ability to see him often as I live far away, he is now in a home with dementia. My brother and sister didn’t appreciate him and thought he was grumpy old b*stard that didn’t give a sh!t about his kids, but they failed to realise and see the good in him and why he never showed any love and appreciation towards his kids, if they sat with him like me and my mother did they would of know him. They now have no choice but to get to know him as my mother is no longer here. Just shows god works in mysterious ways lol. Thank you for your poem it was beautiful. 🥰🙏
Those words stand for my father too. Hard working never complaining real MAN. I think of men like them as the backbone of this once proud nation. What the hell happened to us?
Thats a nice poem June. My dad is still with me at 80 and in a nursing home. I visited today and as per he is always glad to see me and always glad when I leave if I stay longer than a couple of hours! Im sorry your dad is not with you but that was a very moving poem that I appreciated listening to. Kind regards from Matt
Lovely June ❤ Unfortunately I can’t say the same for my own. I’ve just deleted what happened to my brother because I felt bad after your speech being so heartfelt. Happy Father’s Day to all the good Dads. Past and living.🥰

That's most of us June, in our own ways. You don't tell people you love them, you show it. You don't help people or animals for attention, you help them and quietly fade into the background. Happy Father's Day everyone.

Dear Jane Slater. I have read about and watched you, in many video clips. You truly are a great and powerful `Voice of Britian´! As for the words of your deceased father; truly wise, heartful and simply, beautiful!
Hi June. That bought a lump into my throat. Just like my dad. From the day mom and dad got married, dad turned over his wage packet every week unopened. Mom used to give him enough money for his pipe tobacco. He didn't drink, he would mend our shoes and cut our hair. What a great dad. Just like yours. God bless you.
Thank you June. I've just lost my Dad..95 yrs old... a damn hard worker who didn't ask for anything. Also didn't show his feelings but as he got older, he did say he was proud of his 4 children and thought he was the luckiest man alive to have married my Mum. x
They were the backbone of their generation. Picking up the pieces after a world war and they were just boys. Who didn’t have long trousers till they left the school .
Brought tears to my eyes what a lovely tribute to your dad he would be fair proud of you for your stand and the help you give to others, miss my dad too he was old school and just the best thanks for sharing ❤
Such lovely words June. Certainly brought a tear to my eyes. God bless.

Just another decent bloke woven into the fabric of a once respect and noteworthy country!
In yesteryear's non touchy feel world, if you were fed, watered, provided with shelter and not mistreated - then you were loved by your father.
God bless
