Celibacy became a discipline of the Church after the Church has suffered a lot of persecutions and tribulations. Priests are called to dedicate themselves, soul and body, to Christ, but also to His flock as well, whereas a married man's priority is his family, wife and children. Conjugal life is intrinsically incompatible with priestly vocation as a priest should be ready to defend the Truth until death and give up his life for Christ and for his flock without causing burden or suffering to anyone.
I am thankful that some Eastern Catholic rites allow for married men to become ordained to priesthood later, because this may be my vocation in the future. And yes this is a gift and yes in marriage you still need to be chaste. And the rites have different ways and means for making these disciplines work, which I am not sure how this works yet. I have found a beautiful Byzantine Catholic community and I may be joining them very soon. Thanks be to God!
I look at it this way. If you are a high school or college student, you don't ask the science or math nerd for dating advice. You ask the jock. So, how can someone who has never been married counsel couples who are engaged to be married, or married couples who have hit a rough patch? I also don't buy the argument that if a priest is married, then his wife takes precedence over his congregation. Let's say a priest is an only child, or is the only sibling who lives near one or both parents. He may have to spend more and more time looking after his parents, if they are in declining health. Having dealt with my parents and now my in-laws, that can be more time consuming and mentally challenging that keeping a marriage happy and raising children.

My point is you can't ask someone who has never been married for marriage advice, or someone who has never been a parent for parenting advice. But what do I know? I have an ancestor who was the first Lutheran minister ordained in North America. He and his father, also a Lutheran minister, were both married.
Oh, if it would be so easy that Lutheran priest could be ordained as married Catholic priest, we in the Scandinavian countries would have significantly more conversions. But as the reality is that a Lutheran priest would have no job if he would become Catholic, they commonly wait until their retirement... If this rule would be universal, that would be quite amazing. But it seems to only ably the Catholic Church in America and the Anglicans. Let us continue praying 🙏
@@bernardokrolo2275 The Catholic community in Scandinavia is very small and we know each other well :-) And yes, I am in this circle and know personally multiple Lutheran priests in this situation. Not as an inside information, I would not disclose and secrets... some are quite open about it. I'm currently writing a book, a collection of conversion stories from Finland and the number 1 reason for NOT converting for a Lutheran priest, is that he need to provide for his family. Joining the Catholic Church would mean loosing his job and any job opportunity on the theological field. They simply cannot afford to come into full union with the Catholic church.

People are dishonest saying “yes but catholic priests used to marry” or “orthodox priests can marry” when the truth is that married men can be ordained priests (including in the West in certain circumstances). People make it sounds like ordained orthodox priests can (and former catholic ones could) date, fall in love and marry. They use it as an excuse to put pressure on the church to change her discipline, pointing that it has been artificially introduced at one point in time. They are wrong.

The real question for me is why the church doesn't permit laicied clergy, priests and deacons to return to the ministry once they were ordained and sadly made the mistake to laicise themselves. The cases for this are few and far between but still the church won't or doesn't entertain such discussions. We have permanent deacons many of which are married but if your ordained a deacon then laicied then married the church has no interest in picking up your ministry again. Any ideas why that is?
So essentially in order to become a Roman Catholic priest I need to leave the RC church. Join an orthodox/eastern catholic or Anglican church....use their resources to be ordained and then convert back to RC??
Hey. I am a male and I consider celibacy a lot (and religious life). I want to give my heart undivided to Jesus and be offered as a holocaust etc. Do male religious marry Jesus or marry the church? This is very confusing for me lol. I read about some female saints and their "marriage" with the Lord. They call Him spouse etc. I want this but I don't know if it is disordered. Thank you

The amount of suffering this topic has caused me... it's like a trip to Disneyland. Why not celibate marriages?
