      I just can't agree that he choked. Because those were not gimme putts. The putts are longer than they look on TV and they were not flat table-top putts. The one on #16 was 2 and half feet and the green is sloping to the left. The one on #18 was 3 and a half feet and downhill breaking to the right. Those putts are easy to miss but even easier when you're nervous. So, I wouldn't say that he choked but he certainly did not rise to the occasion.

    Bryson had this colt like atmosphere. I wonder do fans like him like him or did they take a sick pleasure out of golf channel bitching. Kevin Van Volkenberg of No Laying up reported on their saturday recap that Brent Falkus' Bryson's agent and Damon Hack got into a screaming match. He hated that they trashed Bryson but now all of a sudden they are kissing his ass. Bryson only had LIV Houston to get ready for this event and won. Scottie wasnt even a threat. He had a D game at Jacks and won. He brought that same game. I agree with Rex, I can see a lot of them coming for the meeting on Tuesday but w/d and not playing again probably till either Genesis Scottish or John Deere the week before. I think this was a diffciult but fair test. 8 men finished under par with a scoring average of 72.8. I think a lot of them are conditioned to upper teens low twenties winning but here -6 won it. 12 players in the history of the US open being staged here finished under par.

      Don’t know where this nonsense came from about Rory not seeking out Bryson to congratulate him. That rarely happens and usually only when the guys are good friends. It’s not like they were in the same group and Rory stormed off and didn’t shake his hand. Rory was in the clubhouse and after he saw that he lost, he left. So, where’s the problem? Should Finau and Cantlay have waited to congratulate him too? They also got beat. Rory had a two-shot lead with four holes to play and he had a meltdown on the last four holes. He had no obligation to stick around and shake Bryson’s hand. Thats one of the problems with the PGA Tour. Too much kumbaya, too much I Luv You Man. The tour needs rivalries not a love fest after each tournament.

    Time for McIlroy to make a caddie switch. The club error on 15 seems like something a top tier caddie would have helped him avoid. And a top caddie would have had him better primed for those two putts and probably had him use a different tee shot strategy on 18 - a draw with a 3-wood leaves him in the fairway with a wedge to the hole.

    Don’t understand your comments about Tiger. The man deserves a lot more respect than what you guys give him. But this is how you guys should be discussing Tiger Woods. Please take notes. We got a chance to see the great Tiger Woods at another US Open which he has won three times. He’s only played three times this year so it’s always a special treat to be able to see arguably the greatest player of all time swing the club one more time. Unfortunately he missed the cut by only two shots (not by a mile as one of you guys said) and to put that in perspective, Scottie only beat Tiger by two shots and made the cut on the number.
    Tiger played well enough to make the cut. But the tricked out greens and crazy rough was too much to overcome. But he still outperformed guys that are playing every week like Glover, Bennie An, JT, Sungjae Im, DJ, Jason Day, Fowler, Hoge, Willie Z and others. Not bad for a guy with zero prep time. Tiger hit about 80% of fairways, the irons were a bit off but the putter was pretty good so he would have been in contention at any other course.
    He had a lot of positives to take away from this week. I think his interview after the tournament has to be put into the proper context. First of all it was immediately after a frustrating missed cut, he was still covered in sweat. So questions about his future or adjusting his prep schedule were not going to be answered in a positive tone. So I don’t think we should try to read too much into that exchange.
    But anyway we got another chance to see a walking, living, breathing legend one more time up close. We don’t know how many more times we will see him but let’s cherish every moment. Looking forward to The Open. If he drives the ball as well as he did this week he might be in contention but will definitely make the cut.
    That’s the way you guys should be covering Tiger Woods. Show some respect for a legend. You guys show Scottie more respect than you do Tiger. And what has Scottie really done? He’s on a hot streak right now but we will have to see how long it will last. Sure you can crunch Scotties numbers and dig up a few golly gee stats. But let me remind you of the only four stats that matter regarding Tiger and the game of golf, I won’t bother telling you what they are because you know what they are: 683 - 142 - 82 - 15. All the other stats you dig up concerning Scottie and anyone else ain’t worth a hill of beans.

The rough was too inconsistent with all that shrubbery out there. It was like playing on a desert. Some balls would land in the fairway and roll into the junk. They need to grow deep grass so the rough can be consistent and don’t over trick the greens. So no this was not the perfect place for a US Open, not even close.

    I think the biggest shock for me was his driving choice on 18….all that pressure, tied at that point, and instead of going with his go-to draw, or even the low punch runner he’d been using throughout the weekend, he tries to play a fade and winds up in the junk left…and while he punched out to a decent spot, his chip went too far, leaving him a treacherous downhill putt…I think when Rory eventually talks about this, he will question why he tried to pull off the fade on 18 instead of his normal shot…

      Rex and the rest of his cohorts act like a bunch of giddy teenagers at a Taylor Swift concert every time the Shuffler hit a simple wedge shot. They need to take it down several notches. I have to disagree that Tiger didn't show up with any type of game. He outperformed guys that are playing every week like Glover, Bennie An, JT, Sungjae Im, DJ, Jason Day, Fowler, Hoge, Willie Z and others. Not bad for a guy with zero prep time. Tiger hit about 80% of fairways, the irons were a bit off but the putter was pretty good so he would have been in contention at any other course. So you are incorrect, he actually showed up with a nice game. He hit about 80% of the fairways, the irons were a bit off but the putter was fine. He missed the cut by two shots at a tricked-out course that did not reward good shots. That sounds pretty good to me.
      But Tigers presence alone enhances any tournament. We should simply be thankful that we're still getting a chance to see this walking, living, breathing legend still playing the game. To show up at the US Open with zero prep and miss the cut by two shots and outplay a host of other young guns that play every week. That's good stuff! What part of that is negative? Some of you folks are just living in an alternate reality.

But they were not flat tabletop putts. They both had a good bit of break and the 2nd one was downhill. But as a pro, you gotta make those.

      They probably schedule the signature events before and after the majors because the sponsors of those events need to get as many eyeballs as possible to help cover those huge purses. They want to capitalize on the excitement before the major and the momentum after the major. If I was sponsoring one of the signature events, I would want all the top players there or I wouldn't do it. But I don't think it's a sustainable business model. The players are burnt out by the time they get to the third tough event. They can withdraw, but I think they can only miss one and after that they get fined $250,000 for each one they don't play.

    Just a HUGE choke by the Royster, he was playing the best golf of his life; and was tearing up the course, even with that unbelievable 6 on the par 5; where he got such a bad break on the approach, it should have been an eagle; instead a bogey. But, he recovered nicely and birdied 3 of the first 4 holes on the back 9; meanwhile, the chambeeno is scrambling like a squirrel for nuts before winters bone.

      Scottie's great, but his putting has been horrific in the past. Under extreme pressure it's not going to hold up. Being thrown in jail at Valhalla and then having potential court appearance on Tuesday is going to shake up any player. Nelly Korda took a 10 on a par 3 and her confidence is now shredded. Neither player was ever going to keep it up forever. If both had lights out putting they'd dominate. Tiger's best years he was rolling the rock. Jordan Speith peak putting amazing. Scottie and Nelly have a long way to go in that department.

    I love how people are now all skeptical about Bryson’s personality and interaction with the fans…is it real or just an act??? WHO CARES? Their job is to entertain the fans…people forget these guys make millions to play golf because they draw fans (potential customers for the sponsors)…if they are boring to watch, people will stop watching…when I watch golf, it’s like watching a movie…I don’t question whether the actors in the film are really like the people they portray? Don’t care…entertain me, period. People did the same thing to Phil…Tiger was a complete A$$ hole to the fans and media, so there was nothing to question there….we just accepted him for what he was because he was the best, and that alone was entertaining.

    • @k9jazzy121
      @k9jazzy121 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree that Bryson is being genuine, and I think it's great for the game. I've always said that half the talent and all the personality went to the LIV Tour and the PGA Tour has been struggling ever since. Most of the golfers have sports psychologists that teach them to not get too high or too low. So, they end up acting like a bunch of robots and it's hard for fans to know how to react. I mean if a golfer doesn't seem to care if he missed or made a putt, then why should we.
      Fans like it when sports figures show emotion. That's what made Tiger so popular. We knew he wanted to win more than anything because he wore his emotions on his sleeve. You got the fist pump and the club twirl when he was happy, and you got the club toss and loud cuss words when he wasn't and most of us loved it. Sure, a lot of people didn't like his antics and a lot of people still don't like Tiger to this day. But that's a good thing because in order to be popular you have to have some haters. Tiger has more haters than Scottie has fans and that's one of the things that make Tiger so popular. I don't think Scottie will ever reach Tiger's popularity because he doesn't have enough haters. 😵‍💫
      I think you're way over the top by saying Tiger was an a-hole to fans and media. I mean he interacted with the fans and media when he needed to but when he was playing, he was focused and he wanted to keep his foot on the players necks and never let up. But keep in mind that before Tiger there were a lot fewer fans and a lot less media, so you may not have approved of his methods, but his antics didn't hurt the game, he grew the game into what it is today. It's always disappointing to hear people disrespect the GOAT.
      In the book the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Green, one of the Laws of Power is to remain mysterious. And never let people know exactly what you're doing or what you're thinking. Appear to make decisions spontaneously or wait until the last minute. In other words, keep people guessing about everything about you including your health, your job, your family and all your plans and only provide information in small tidbits that will keep them wanting more and hanging on your every word whenever you speak. The book says if you follow the Law of Power to remain mysterious, you will become a very popular and powerful person. It sounds like Tiger may have read that book.

    You guys need to stop making excuses for Scottie whenever he doesn’t play well. He’s the #1 player on the PGA Tour but that doesn’t mean that he has perfected the game. He’s on a hot streak, he’s deadly with his irons and he’s accurate with the driver but he still has the yips on short putts. Ands that’s what hurt him this week. His driver was okay but anything off the fairway was in the junk and you had to get lucky to have a decent lye. So you don’t have to over analyze it, he just didn’t play well and almost missed the cut. He was only two shots better than Tiger and he’s only played three times all year. So just stop it. Scottie didn’t play well, end of story.

    Total nonsense about the course. Too many shots were playing from areas that are like GUR (ground-under-repair). Those areas should be only be in play when you are more wayward on the hole.
    The run-off area on 5th on Friday grabbing the balls of scheff, Xander & Rory was a farce. Scheff ball landed softly on the green and gets punished into GUR.
    The inconsistency of lies in those GUR areas is ridiculous. You can’t practice for that.

    • @k9jazzy121
      @k9jazzy121 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I totally agree that this not a good venue for a US Open. The greens were too tricked out. You can’t have slopes that close to the pin because the greens will not reward great shots. That par 5 on the back nine prevented Tiger from making the cut. He hit the green in two but the ball rolled past the cup and over the green and down into the junk and he had to settle for par instead of having an eagle look. The rough was too inconsistent with all that shrubbery out there. It was like playing on a desert. Some balls would land in the fairway and roll into the junk. They need to grow deep grass so the rough can be consistent and don’t over trick the greens. So, no this was not the perfect place for a US Open, not even close.
