Refractometers are great as long as they are calibrated. I use both that and a hydrometer (tropic marin) to check my salt levels always just as a double safety. I had my refractometer get bumped without me notice and next time i measured it was 1.039 ... i forgot to check the calibration and started acting accordingly, safe to say i almost nuked my tank (5 years ago this). Since then every test and measuring device has a second option just in case. Thank you guys for the lovely videos every morning! (Europe)
All For Reef for me is the absolute secret sauce. I use the powder, 65 gallon mixed reef stuffed full and I dose 30ml a day. I can set me watch to my alk,cal, and MG numbers. Going on 2 years now of it and only having to dose 1 thing is awesome and waaaay less stressful. I can’t recommend enough!!
A refractometer should be calibrated with a salt water solution at .35ppt. Some use RO/Distilled and calibrate to 0 but that will give you a higher reading. In my experience many of the hobbyists calibrate to the .35ppt and not the 0. In my opinion this is what we should be doing :). Love your videos!
I don't seem to be able to find them in the UK. The Red Sea ones seem to be pretty much the higher end model available over here, Tia would not be happy.
BRS glue is good and thick. I bought it because I read the reviews on the Seachem glue on Amazon and many people complained about it not sticking. However, after personally using both of them I like the Seachem glue better. It's not as thick as the BRS glue for sure, but I think it actually sticks better and sets faster. Both are good glues but I think I'll just use the Seachem ones now.
I've had the seachem glue burst from the bottom.. when you are glueing corals, it easily hardens on top..so you end up squeezing harder as the hole gets smaller and this can to the bottom bursting. Yeah not pretty. Is it a good glue? Yes, we do the BRS glue across the pond so seachem works well for me. Need to try gorilla but damn, is it expensive
I've had great luck with the Hanna salinity checker too. Way easier than using a refractometer, but I still agree with keeping one around to verify the Hanna. Also make sure you have calibration fluid on hand too!

March you upsold me to the Sybon with the exact same statement about it being way better for just a little more. I haven't been by but my coral budget got redirected to replacing my bricked laptop.
I'm about the start all for reef as they have a powder format now..need to check it out...if what they say is right and you simply need to check alkhalinity and everyone else is balanced out ..damn, that is something else. Not only do you just need to test alkhalinity every week..saves you time
Out of curiosity do you get a decent enough wholesale price to make money on dry goods....my fish stores complain they don't stock the stuff bc online is killing them....opinion?

I've had my Sybon Refractometer for 12 years, and recalibrate it every 6 months. it's the #1 thing you need.
