One day I happened to see Goose on TV. I had never heard of him, but his pitching was very aggressive. I immediately liked him. Him and Dick Butkus are my kind of players! Thanks Goose for every pitch you ever threw! :-)
I remember reading years ago the influence that Dick Allen had on Goose. Mentored him, in fact. That's what's forgotten about Dick Allen, the fact that he helped a number of young players. I also thought that Goose was critical of Johnny Sain. Maybe it was another pitching coach. The '72 White Sox had Terry Forster and Goose Gossage, two 20-year old fireballers.
