I pretty much have learned how he learned. I grew up in southwest Virginia and my father would hunt arrowheads and I would along with him. Then later in my life decided I would learn knapping in my late 30s now I'm 53 and still feel like I learn something everyday! Ty for the video and info!!! Long live knapping
Vyrl is a walking talking historian, the knowledge he has is immense. I sure hope there are more videos of him. It would be a travesty to lose all that knowledge. I sure wish I could be in the same room as that man. This is the best knapping video on the web!
This is one of the best knapping videos I have ever watched. Thank you so much. Found my first arrowhead last year & have been obsessed with the art. I have not tried yet, but I've been collecting knowledge and materials. I pick up broken glass on our shorelines every year. I've never once been cut by glass but chert flakes have bitten me several times. 😂
They're still out there. If you want something different and are tired of meeting people not good for you then try stepping outside your comfort or attraction zone. We are attracted to the same type over and over. Give someone you wouldn't normally be attracted to a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised with the friend or partner of a lifetime. Best wishes. Love and happiness wished to come your way. Be blessed.
@@georgiagirl1961 I hear you, and appreciate your effort in trying to be helpful but my problem isn't really getting out of my comfort zone. I Am also happily married to my bestfriend and the coolest partner ever. I just want to meet people with primitive, and modern survival skills. Never met anyone that does. Not really sure how either. Psychedelics have certainly taught me how to embrace the chaos, and thrive in it but unless I just happen upon the right person that's not going to help me in that regard. I'm not sitting around feeling sorry for myself. I just don't know anyone that has the skills/Info I'm trying to learn. Other than paying hundreds of dollars to learn it I'm not sure what else to do, and paying a lot is not an option financially right now. Thanks for the motivation though ✊🏼
I have many spear po8nts like that big black obsidion one. They arwnt that big, but just as pretty. I got them years ago on a cattle ranxh 8n Sonoma California. Bowls, points, drills. Unreal. Wish I still had em. I learned how knapping works. After finding them my whole life I never knew how tgey were made. I thought they carved tgem somehow. Once I saw it done I got it. I was out in California visiting twn yeats ago and knapled about 14 arrowheads out of obsidion we fpund. I was amazed how naturally I picked it up. The stone shows you where the flakes need to come off. I love it.
Beautiful work, thank you all for sharing this, gotta do this with my son, would love some knives and such from flint should i find any around here.... hard to find in the prairies.

It doesn't matter what material ypu use. Not sure 8f you ever heard of Ishi. He was the last of the Yahi tribe. He apeared at a slaughterhouse coral in Cloverdale California in 1911. His tribe was attacked by settlers and military after they said some tribesmen attacked a nd killed a couple people. There were only 20 left, Ishi being one of them. Over a 6 year period they all died off but Ishi. An Anthropoligist befriended him and studied him at San Francisco University. He worked as a janitor there for the remainder of his like. They still have the flakers and other tools Ishi used last. Both his flakers axtually have iron embedded in wood or bone. So yes, all humans adapted to new technologies. I tbink of Ishi often. Bone stone & antler are all organic tools. These are the traditional tools that true tool making were done with. The age of copper was introduced 6k years ago. Even after using copper native Americans returned back to using traditional organic tools to make stone tools. Copper was mostly used for ornamental use. This is not much of a learning video. Any of these national treasures have their own channels?
They actually use obsidian in eye surgery
I don’t know if you could get much sharper than that
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
Yup
I herd a surgical knife edge is 1.2 molecules and obsidian fractures down to 1 molecule.
Hi Sir what do you do with the small Pieces?
It depends on the size. Some can be made into other types of bifacial tools, some can be made into unifacial tools.
This best stone tool makers don't use metal tools.

Your doing it wrong
@@Dougarrowhead you still doing it wrong and we don't shoot a bow like that either
@@runingblackbear you're a fake. You're not an Indian. You don't own a bow. You don't know how to make arrowheads.
Hey Vyrl, you know how I would do that?!!!..
Vyrl; how?....
Exactly how YOU'RE doing it! 😉
