    No anki? That's what I love to hear! Lol. I started rotations last week and have just been doing Uworld and taking notes in OneNote as well. I used anki all first year and although I know it works, I'm just so tired of it so I'm trying to see how my first shelf exam goes without using it and then I'll adjust if needed.

    Thank you for your thoughtful video on strategies to perform well on Step 2 CK! Could you provide resources that helped you for each shelf allowing you to perform as well as you did? It would be greatly appreciated as I am preparing to enter my 3rd year in the fall and want to get ahead with mental preparation and resources that will help me succeed on Shelf & Step 2 CK.

      Hi Shishona,
      UWorld is the most valuable resource for all rotations in my opinion (I sound like a broken record!), but if you also learn well by textbooks or outside resources, here are some I found useful:
      Psych- First aid for psych (text), Sketchy Pharm for psych drugs
      Peds- Peds Case Files (text)
      OBGYN- ACOG online practice questions
      IM- Divine intervention podcasts
      Surgery- Pestana’s Surgery Notes
      Family Medicine- AAFP Question bank
      Neurology- mostly just UWorld 😂, Sketchy pharm for neuro drugs

    How do you do UW questions? You make sure you understand all the answer choices? or the major idea from the answer? Just starting clinicals (IM next) and your score is #GOALS

    • @timjmd
      @timjmd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tim, great name. When I do UW questions for the first time, there's often a lot I get wrong about the question. Even if I get it right, if I wasn't confident about my answer or had a lucky guess, I always take notes on that question as if I got it wrong. Early on (during my first pass), I read the entire question explanation, but only write in my Notes what I didn't know or understand before. My Notes are in a document that I review several times thoroughly (it doesn't take that long if you make the concepts concisely written). My second and third passes, I don't spend as much time reviewing the explanations because I'm familiar with them and I'll just write down whatever concept I forgot. By the end of the rotation you should be flying through reviews because A) You'll have fewer incorrects and B) It's usually 1 simple mental mistake that got that question wrong.
      TLDR: Do multiple passes of UW Qs. Repeat every incorrect until correct. Take notes on everything that you don't know 100% well. Review those notes repeatedly.

    • @timjmd
      @timjmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re pretty similar, but more than a handful of them will seem “out of left field”, especially the Abstract-based questions. But UWorld questions include these questions styles and are the best preparation for sure

    • @timjmd
      @timjmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used B&B for Step 1, but in my honest opinion you don’t need it for Step 2. UW, OME and Divine Intervention was more than enough for me.
      His videos are very thorough though, so that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be a solid replacement for OME, as long as it’s not too time consuming and doesn’t take too much time away from UW Qs!
