Wow, I've been teaching sewing for a long time so when I watch other TH-camrs, it's mainly for entertainment value, but YOU actually taught me a LOT! The ribbon demonstration made it very clear. Thank you!
I honestly didn't know that I could put a spool on vertically and why I would do so. I also just found out that with this video that I have been putting on my end cap backwards this whole time!! thank god I'm the only one who knows how to sew in my circle so no one knows how I'm embarrassing myself lol
You also demonstrated which direction the plastic cap goes on the end of the horizontal spool! Most machine manuals just tell the user to put it on, but they don't mention how. Excellent video.
Thank you for splaying this and sharing this information. It’s so basic but it’s something that a lot of sewists don’t know it or why, we uses the spools that we do.
Never thought of putting those big cones in a jar for use on my sewing machine. Thanks for that idea. And now I know why some spools of thread look different.
I have that singer heavy duty machine and didn't know to use the vertical stem for sewing. Always just used it to thread the bobbin. Thank you for this information!
Hi - So glad to have found your channel! Your instructional style is tremendous - rather than merely demonstrating techniques, you address the WHY and the HOW. It makes your learning so much more valuable to learners. Thank you for your commitment to our craft; I look forward to watching many more videos.
I’m 70 years old and didn’t know this, though I have been sewing since in high school. No one ever mentioned it, and I always wondered why I had tension problems with my machine. Thank you soooo much!
This is one of the best videos on sewing I've seen. Super easy to understand, you explained it in a way even a total beginner would get and offered solutions. Keep the great content coming!
I'm binge watching all of your videos since I decided I wanted to start sewing. Thanks so much for bringing amazing and well edited content here :) It is soo much appreciated!
“The only way out of the jar is up” Love the tip!!!! Thank you for the video, never considered what the significance of how the thread on a spool was wound. I bought a new machine that wouldn’t fit my previously bought large threads that sat up top on my old machine. Now I can use them placed in a large jar without having to invest in new threads :)
Woooooow! I never knew! Tony Baker voice. I learned a lot from this video. Although I’ve never had a issue that I know of at least, I just changed my setup after seeing this. Thanks!
wow... i noticed in one of your tutorials you had one of the bigger spools in the glass jar. so subconsciously, I tried that same method for your tote bag designs and It saved me a lot of hassle. i don't know why it didn't process in my mind until watching this video.. your videos are a godsend. will definitely be following your tutorials from here on out! thank you again
Thank you for sharing such useful tips and learnings that normally no one explains. I discovered your work recently and I really value the quality of your videos, the tutorials and the way you explain it. Congratulations.😊
Thank you! I am fairly experienced sewer but always worked on a 50 year old machine. Just got a brand new sewing machine and was perplexed by the spool holder options. I guess I should read the manual. 😂
So clever, and explained so beautifully, concise, to the point and very informative. I've been sewing (as a hobby seamstress) for 10+ years now, and never knew it to this detail! Many thanks, and you got yourself a new subbie! =)
Thank you. I have only used horizontal and got a machine with horizontal and parallel and there was no info in the manual or online and support at the company kept glitching. I had no idea which one to use. It's a simple thing but I just didn't know because I hadn't been exposed to it.
Nice, I just purchased guterman thread for my juki ddl 8700. My other parallel wound spools used to always get stuck in that little notch and break the thread. Now with my gutter man thread that doesn't happen anymore
For the footage at 1:58, you seem to have rewound the green thread that you pulled from the spool at around 1:30. That is so cute, and cool. I hope you have a good day.
Thank you very much for your explanation. I use a Bernina machine which is over 56 years old. It doesn’t have a horizontal spool but all the cottons today are wound in that diamond pattern. How can I overcome this? I use guterman thread. I’m 74 and grateful that I can learn something new especially from young people.
I never knew this and have always put both types on the horizontal pin. Honestly, I didn't even know that my machine could be set up for a vertical pin until I just looked and saw that the hole was covered with a small sticker. I wonder if I have a vertical pin around here somewhere . . . .
Huh. Today, I learned something new. Thanks for sharing! I'm assuming there will be no impact if you put the crisscross thread on the vertical spool? Coz I know some sewing machines don't have that horizontal spool.
I thought there were two places to hold thread because you can set the sewing machine up with two separate threads and a dual needle, or at least that's what the instructions say on every machine I've had
Wow, I've been teaching sewing for a long time so when I watch other TH-camrs, it's mainly for entertainment value, but YOU actually taught me a LOT! The ribbon demonstration made it very clear. Thank you!
I’m 67 and I learned something new from you young man and I sent it to my granddaughter so she would know. Thank you 👏👏👏👏
dude idk why this is blowing my mind but i've never seen this explained from all the hundreds of sewing vids i've seen on youtube thank you!!
What an excellent explanation. The “why” was missing from the others I watched 👍
Learning the why helps things make sense!! :)
I honestly didn't know that I could put a spool on vertically and why I would do so. Great explanation of proper thread roll-out… and what happens when it isn’t! Thanks
You also demonstrated which direction the plastic cap goes on the end of the horizontal spool! Most machine manuals just tell the user to put it on, but they don't mention how. Excellent video.
Omg I've been sewing for years and never knew the difference thanks
Thank you for splaying this and sharing this information. It’s so basic but it’s something that a lot of sewists don’t know it or why, we uses the spools that we do.
Oh my goodness!!! I never knew that, but I will be using the correct method from now on. That you so much for the knowledge.
Never thought of putting those big cones in a jar for use on my sewing machine. Thanks for that idea. And now I know why some spools of thread look different.

I cant find out how to wind my bobbin with the other spool pin. I have a janome. Please explain thanks
OMG! So simple! I never knew this and it explains why I was having so many thread twisting & breakage issues. Thank you!

I had no idea, thank god I had it the right way! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much. I have the same machine and had no clue. This is a game changer for me.
Your are making this sewing journey worthwhlie. Im having fun and learning thru ur vids. Great Work and THANK U!!!!!

Omg, I never thought of it. That seems so logical now, I can’t understand why nobody’s mentioning it right at the beginning.
Woooooow! I never knew! Tony Baker voice. I learned a lot from this video. Although I’ve never had a issue that I know of at least, I just changed my setup after seeing this. Thanks!
This is so interesting! My machine only has the vertical spool holder. Now I know the thread I have is the right kind for my machine.
I found this out a few months ago... But I'm lazy and use both threads the same way 🤦🏻♀️ I need to treat my thread better. The jar idea is wonderful!

Simple but big time helpful! Thank you!! ❤
THANK YOU I did not know this and so cool being able to use the largest of roll in a bottle!
Omg I did not know that! Thank you 😊🙏
Great demonstration, I l’ll finally remember how to position my spool!
Thank you! I am fairly experienced sewer but always worked on a 50 year old machine. Just got a brand new sewing machine and was perplexed by the spool holder options. I guess I should read the manual. 😂
The jar trick is rad, thankyou...
How many times can I like this?! A million, trillions or kabillions...thank you.
So clever, and explained so beautifully, concise, to the point and very informative.

Brilliant explanation, you have a new fan
holy shit the jar method is brilliant
Yooooo, I’ve been fighting my cone spool forever, and I have the same machine, thanks so much for that glass jar tip!
🤯 thank you for the information I didn't know I needed
Nice, I just purchased guterman thread for my juki ddl 8700. My other parallel wound spools used to always get stuck in that little notch and break the thread. Now with my gutter man thread that doesn't happen anymore
Omg I did not know this! Thank you!
So many tricks and tips.. thanks a lot 🙏🏻
this is incredible advice. thank you.
Very smart & enlightening thank you

WOW 😂Thx You lots , very impressive .
Thankyou so very much.
Perfect explanation!
Waow! I never knew about that. Thanks for sharing I learned something today :-)4
Never knew this. Thanks

Keep up with these amazing vids. I love it

Thank you for the great video!
Thanks.
Please review the Butterfly JHQ6032A
Does it matter if you put the thread type (horizontal vs crisscross) in the incorrect section?
Love it
A JAR!!!!!!!!! GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 awesome!!!
Question: can you wind thread on a bobbin and then use this bobbin for your upper thread??
Ive heard you can use the horizontal spool to wind the bobbin without unthreading the machine. How is this done?😊
THANK YOU!!! :-)
No wonder I have sooo many issues with thread!!!!!!
哥们 这真是太酷了~
I thought there were two places to hold thread because you can set the sewing machine up with two separate threads and a dual needle, or at least that's what the instructions say on every machine I've had
Yeah, my old CE-100 has two spool pins, but the one on the back is for thread cones; the horizontal is for everything else. So far, so good.
Oh my daze!
huh, no wonder my thread's been coming out knotty.
If you use double needle you need two holders. I thought the big spool of threads was for over lock machines..
🤯🤯
Why did no one EVER tell me this??🤯
The spicy antarctica technically fasten because verse arespectively discover regarding a rainy plywood. unable, devilish selection
Great video I had no idea
