I like your videos. I am a bit older than you and I buy a lot of older books, as far back as pre-1900 horror. I buy sci-fi from way back. I tend to collect paperbacks from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, though I buy anything that I am told is good (and I am learning stuff from you). You should read The Bourne Identity. Great stuff.
Oh man, I’m so jealous you found a haul of Alastair Reynolds. I’ve read everything he’s read and just got his latest in the Revelation Space series. Pushing Ice is my favorite, but Chasm City is the one I recommend to people who like action packed SciFi.
Wow, my mom went to Russia in the 90's and brought back that same exact Quake3 Arena copy before it ever released in the US. Thanks for helping me remember how excited I was when I opened that CD case!
I am so jealous of the Alastair Reynolds haul What a great find if you decide to sell them let me know…(seriously) big fan of his and Revelation Space…A new 4th book in that series is coming out in October I believe titled Inhibitor Phase…Big fan of Peter F Hamilton as well…if you find a good condition set of the Night’s Dawn Trilogy put out by Orbit in 2008-2009 I would be very interested in that as well…Any books by Reynolds and the Commonwealth Saga and Night’s Dawn Trilogy by Hamilton…Looking for mass market or trade paperbacks only…Great Haul…Love the Channel
The stand-alones - House of Suns, Prefect, Terminal, Chasm, Century - I think are his best. I really liked them. I like Revelation series a lot, but stand-alone are even better.
Not sure what you consider sci fi horror, if it's alien creatures coming to earth modern day then you most likely need to check out the horror section for books like Stinger by Robert R McCammon, can't say it was great but it fits the description. PS Keep an eye out for The Asgard Run by Steve Vance and House Of Doors by Brian Lumley, as sci fi horror goes I recommend both.
My favorite Alastair Reynolds (and somehow I managed to read all of them despite being a literature snob in a past life) is his novella “Permafrost.” An interesting take on time travel and eco-apocalypse.
Did you get any of the Poseidon’s Children trilogy? (Blue Remembered Earth is the first.) That trilogy has trans-species body modification, a space-faring, matriarchal African family, and super-intelligent elephants (also space faring.) I like The Prefect and Elysium Fire, too, in part because there is a “buddy cop” kind of character who is a human-pig hybrid. Have you read Greg Bear, Kim Stanley Robinson, or China Mieville? Mieville is sort of sci-fi adjacent, apart from “Embassytown” which is very original, full-on science fiction. I recently re-read Bear’s “Anvil of Stars” which is about as close to the space opera sub genre as I enjoy getting. I read it when it first came out and when I got to the last page I flipped back to page 1 and immediately read it again.
I was wrong. It wasn't Asimov's book I was telling you about the other day that I picked up as part of a bundle in an auction (paid probably $25 for a million books from a school). It was Heinlein's "Methuselah's Children", Signet publishing. Some for sale on Ebay $15 range, sold's, meh, $4 - $9. Hardback is worth some coin. But the cover is awesome. Really great condition, bottom edge of the book has the # of the class done in black magic marker, but pages look like they've never been opened. This it was an over buy. Tons of copies. Happy to send you one if you want one. I originally thought of selling the covers as cool postcards, but I don't like destroying good condition books.
I haven’t watched all of your book videos yet so maybe you already talked about this, but how do you know what’s rare when it comes to sci fi books? I found one called circus world and just liked the cover art, listed it for $5 and when it sold immediately, I realized maybe it was worth more. I’m not sure where to start when it comes to sci fi books! Any good recommendations for research?
Yes, download the Amazon seller app. It's free. You can scan covers and it'll show you some sales metrics for the book. Also look up sold listings on Ebay.
@@Bookpilled oh I should have said the ones you can’t find anywhere! But I don’t have the Amazon seller app so maybe they are on there but usually I find really old books and I can’t figure out what they are worth Bc I can’t find them!
I wouldn't say your buying an AR-15 handbook, a quake cd, and a Bourne book make you look like a psychopath. However, your willingness to record your container bin furniture and put that up on TH-cam, now THAT makes you someone who very very dangerous.
I loved those Nintendo Power books as a kid as well. My favorite was Ninja Gaiden, followed by Castlevania.
~ 3:00 - The smile with which you describe the last quarter of _Tha Vang_ as "just revolting" fits nicely with that Ludlum and AR-15 building manual 😀

just picked up the vang for $3
Nice, stick with it til the end.

I think that might be the one book I'm missing. Thanks for the recommendation. Any of the ones I got you recommend over others?

Tried to attach photo...its the pink cover. with the woman in chains.
Appreciate the offer. I can never stick with Heinlein though. Something about his prose just rankles me. Jealous of your enormous book windfall.

do you happen to know all these authors and books off the top of your head or do you also scan to check if they're selling?
I know a lot of them, but if there's something unfamiliar that looks potentially valuable, I look it up on Amazon and/or Ebay.
