You can't sanitise razors / combs / utensils / etc in this machine because they have particles of organic matter that aren't physically removed. A dirty spoon is going to come out encrusted in dried (albeit sanitised) food?! If you have to scrub, this machine has no benefit

That is why you clean it...then put it to sterilize. Its normal procedure. You clearly overthought it.
Clean, then sterilize. So if you have a dishwasher or clothes washer you'd have a "sterilize" after the regular cleaning is over.
