‘अलबेली दास्तान’ - Celebrating a learning environment which is inclusive and symbiotic in every sense of the word.
What is Education For? Is it for gaining subject knowledge and skills alone? Is it correct to encourage competition and individual excellence over collaboration and collective growth?
Education should enable young people to become active and compassionate citizens. We live in densely woven social systems. The benefits we derive from them depend on our working together to sustain them. The empowerment of individuals has to be balanced by practicing the values and responsibilities of collective life, and of democracy in particular.
As Kiddy Kingdom Academy celebrates its 35th year, the vision was to present the journey in a stage performance with student cast. Rather than documenting it as a commentary, we have attempted to put together some of the guiding principles which have led to the organic growth of the school. The script uses characters and situations with elements of fantasy, to reflect on the pedagogy and processes which have evolved over the years.
One of the most important pillars of the school philosophy have been its inclusive classrooms, welcoming of every student with a quest for learning. Collaboration and the Ubuntu philosophy of “I am because We are” have guided our approach at every stage.
‘Necessity being the mother of invention’, dealing with changing paradigms have led to many innovative solutions over the years.
“Log saath aate ga.e aur kārvāñ bantā gayā”
‘अलबेली दास्तान’ - a musical drama, has been scripted by Prafulla Tripathi and directed by Punit Mittal. With costumes designed and stitched by the teachers, voice overs and songs recorded in a professional studio by the children playing that role, alumni taking on the responsibility of compering and helping backstage, this was a show representing the soul of the school.
It was lovingly presented to an audience comprising parents, educationists, alumni, friends and well-wishers, on 3rd December 2024 at Sangeet Natak Academi, Lucknow.
