Thanks for another great EP. Watched the film a number of times, still not sure where I stand but reqlly enjoyed your rundown of the devisive film that is Prometheus.
As a bonus episode idea or something to think about. There is a fan edit of Prometheus and Alien Covenant called "Paradise" which cuts both films together very well and gets rid of a lot of the rubbish from both films. Personally I like Prometheus, which I feel started life as a film "inspired by" Alien. As soon as Ridley was like "it's going to lead into Alien" he was set up to fail. We didn't need the fan service.
I have questions. Or singular question I suppose. The first time I watched this film I got it into my head that the planet in this film is the same planet from the first alien film. Is that not the case? I thought the space jockey from alien is/was the engineer that was alive in Prometheus and it always really annoyed me that he was THERE. He was in the seat. His chest should have exploded there and then. Shaw should have been fighting for her life against a xenomorph at the end not an engineer and then the films would have tied together a bit more … maybe. I was always confused how he was in the chair in alien but didn’t finish up there at the end of Prometheus.
And on that note, the recording (the last entry of the Prometheus) that shaw records in the last scene while driving the buggy to a different ship with David would be the message that the nostromo receives in Alien that wakes everyone up and the film series begins.
Visually stunning. Annoying as hell. Shaw refuses armed guards. How is it her choice? Geologist gets freaked out by alien body. What did he expect to find on another planet? Map the location & 2 members get lost. Nobody on board is monitoring this. Crew leave in vehicle, leaving 2 buggies capable of carrying 4 out of 6 people, thus leaving 2 people stranded. It's like they knew 2 were lost. Let's approach the alien snake & make friends. Oh it's spread out like a cobra now. Its definitely friendly. Milburn gets despondent after briefly examining 1 of what is clearly several structures. Why is Mr Burns, I mean Weyland, hidden from the scientists? He funded it. Nobody tracks Fifield back to the ship. How is Shaw functioning after surgery? Why does the engineer go straight to rage mode? Vickers idiotic death. Only Shaw and David were good characters. Most of the rest were personality vacuums.
I'll definitely be sending you a big beefy email about my thoughts on this podcast in the near future as I've really been enjoying it, but for now I'll just answer the pet name question: Rather embarrassingly, I named one of my cats 'Blade' after the Marvel Vampire character of the same name which had just hit cinemas at the time ... A long haired black stray that I 'found' one day on my way back from school, he was not at all aggressive, but no matter how sweet and affectionate he was, you'd ALWAYS come away with a bloodied scratch any time his paws touched you ... We also weren't sure how old he was when we picked him up as he was 'adult sized' but he was extremely long lived as he was with us for more than 25 years before passing just last year.
I remember not disliking it when it came out, but over time the more I thought about it the more it fell apart. I have still rewatched it, there are things about it I enjoy, but it's a mess overall and as said before it spoiled the mystery and ultimately made it disappointing.

Wait, what, hang on? The Engineer looked like he was made of mouse mat material?!? What does that mean! What kind of mouse mat?
