Back in the 80s I learned from some guys who has been operating CB radios and others who are HAM operators for a long time, I frequently inquire mainly on antenna and coaxial types before I got deeper into it as a hobby, my first radio was a Motorola MOCAT 40 with the base station dock and a Shakespeare base antenna and RG-8, it worked great until I started started to get into mobile CB, I bought the first generation export President Lincoln, a family friend who is into DX helped me select the antenna and coax for my mobile setup, I got 18’ of RG-8 and a 102” stainless steel whip, I made my own antenna mount made of 1/4” pre bent L shaped steel welded a couple of gussets and mounted at the top left rear corner of the truck bed next to the bed stake hole, went to a open location right by the ocean and did the SWR and other tests for calibration and power output, the SWR was at a 1.1:1 all across the spectrum, I did all of the work and installation while my family friend did the testing, it came out perfect with no adjustments needed, going by knowledge and following instructions for the first time did pay off for me.
You’re my mentor Rooster. I do watch other channels and most of them that I watch align with you. So, I constantly find myself making most of my decisions from what I get from you. So far, I have not been let down.
I try to learn something new every day. I'm still in the mud duck category. I have been having fun running a homemade Dipole antenna 10 foot up in an inverted V. Radios I have been playing with are my Uniden bearcat 980SSb paired with RM Italy 203P or I run my Antyone Quad 5 "ALT" version barefoot. I have been getting to the N East corner quite often from SoCal. As a renter I am limited to what I can have in the air and the power I can run. But I still have fun and make lots of contacts AM and SSB. I have even got you Rooster on AM and SSB. AM is a serious challenge and very fun to get a contact with my small station, but I do get them. I really enjoy your videos Rooster. they help a lot. I wish TH-cam was around back in the 80's and 90's. I am an odd ball I like the excitement of getting contacts with low budget setup. I want to be king of the Mud Ducks.
MERCEY !!!!!! I wished i had a big radio. "606" waving a hand to that rooster, 35+ miles away, with my 2.5 watts swing 10. Good video, keep it up. MERCY !!!!!! 😂😅😮😊😂
I started cb when I was 13 . Later in life joined a group called the dirty dozen. Really enjoyed it. Then in late 20s gave it up (life). Been looking at getting back into it. I had 1k mobile before I quit and talked all over the world. I have really been looking at rci stuff. My concern is they seem to drift.
I'm devastated that I just learned that an Antron 99 isn't the best!😂 Great subject Rooster. We have quite a few new guys in our area that I'm going to share this video with. I've heard them getting the same type of advice from some of the people who have been on radio for awhile. 828 Guitarman and I'm gone
I just come right out and say, "I've been doing this for a long time. Don't listen to me. I'm an idiot" lol Happy New Year Rooster! Love watching your content brother.
My driving interest was always optimizing a station that punched WAY above it's weight class, with the absolute minimum amount of equipment. It's much more difficult than most realize. A great source is old books. Try to find a good used book store near you. Find an "Elmer" that knows his shyte. "the wealth of the mind is the only true wealth."
A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. I went through the same thing when I was the young kid on the channel, lost track on the number of times I heard "I've been on the radio ....."🤣 Cool looking clock, don't know that I've ever seen on but it looks a lot like a kit DigiKey used to sell years ago, without the nice case.
Thats me no money but i guarantee i do real well with what i have. Do i wish i had the 10s of thousands of watts absolutely i do but thats never going to be a reality! My tec built this amp i just got going and he built me a 2 element cubical quad. I used 8237 rg 8u for years because its what i had and it did well but a few years ago i went to lmr400 and it seems fine. Is there better of course but right now its not for me! You always have the best sound advice and i thank you for that. Ive actually learned a ton from you and appreciate it! Im always wanting to learn!
Rooster speaking of knowledge. If you were going to purchase a new beam what kind of antenna would you buy or what Builder would you use? That's my next big purchase
Get in where you want to fit in. If you want to be a big power station than the people you want to be friends with are the guys with are the guys running the big stations.
Pretty Cool, but I have no use for one. Still waiting till you get some more of those illuminati devices. January, you said, "hopefully," would it help if I pre-order 1 of each? Have a Blessed New Year, Rooster.! Edited here: wish I had the money to run 50k, but I don't, so I'll make the best with what I have.

I have never heard more true words ! Thanks Rooster
SPOT ON… keep doing what you’re doing. TWO THUMBS UP.
Well said Rooster. That's why we come to you !
Knowledge is power
My favorite saying ever
My uncle taught me the meaning of this years ago thanks for addressing this 73,s 615 music city
BEEN LOOKING FOR A NOS UNIT FOR A FEW YEARS NOW

Learning is part of the fun!
That's pretty cool, always looking for interesting gadgets for the shack!
Y’all com bac na here 😂😂😂
He,he,he ha.
Lovin Roosta.
Their wrong on the ultimate coax, it's mini 8x, but only if it's Belden.
Pretty cool. Always good to have a dedicated clock in the shack.

Thanks for the video
what is the difference in the different coaxs and how they are made they all look the same.
Wise words!

You were booming here earlier! Good location and good antenna will take you far
Back in the 80s and 90s I used to run 2500 to 3000 watts a talk anywhere I wanted to now I talk all over the world on 100 watts on lsb I don't talk am
Not a thing wrong with that. I go to ssb occasionally on my ground plane. It's nice to feel like a superstar without running big watts sometimes 🤣
Wish i new a tech that would restore my Uniden Washington, sittn in closet since 90s, looks brand new but caps shot , meter stuck and so on
Very well said Rooster 150 LINY

Cool I like it. Did you set the time by listening to WWV?

Huh, interesting 🤔
What you are talking about is known as the "Dunning Kruger" effect. 😆
I had to Google that, not going to lie, but that's spot on
