Thank for showing some of your island exploring. I love watching GA videos but seeing the destination is equally as important to me. We're definitely planning a flight out to Block Island in the future. God Bless.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! I'm glad to help inspire your future flights! definitely a must do for sure. Block Island is awesome, and it just was such a good time. Plus the beaches and the natural environment was definitely gorgeous! Enjoy the flight when you finally do decide to fly there.
You’re right on Russ, Flying to the Block is awesome! I’m based in R.I. so I’m no stranger to the island. The restaurant at the airport is good and walking into town is easy. Yes, be warned, NO FUEL AT THE AIRPORT!
That was such an amazing place to visit. I started to go to that restaurant at the airport, but I saw that walking was an option. Definitely one of my top five flights in 2024. I’m envious that you get to fly around that beautiful area all the time. Anyway, be well!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, it’s my favorite way to see the island. definitely check it out if you get a chance. Cool place to visit for sure. Take care!
You're absolutely right - traffic in certain areas can be congested and rapid fire. You held it together and was focused on the task of flying - great job as usual.
Thanks so much for the encouraging words! It definitely helps me continue to progress. That airspace was so rapid fire, and that ATC person was handling her business! Thank you so much again for the encouraging words. They are definitely greatly appreciated. Take care, and happy new year!
Thanks so much for the encouraging words, brother! I hope you enjoy the flights! I really definitely enjoy making them for sure. Thank you for being such a blessing to me, it is greatly appreciated. Happy new year!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video russ. I've watched the others, haven't commented as much (apologies) but this one was wonderful. Good comms with ATC thru that crazy airspace😅
Thanks, I really appreciate it! I'm working on my radio work in anticipation of my instrument training in 2025! Thank you so much for your amazing support, it is greatly appreciated. And don’t worry about commenting, as long as I still bring content that you find interesting and engaging. Take care, and happy new year!
Your radio work is amazing at your experience level. You will have no trouble with IFR communications. As an experienced Army aviator in actual instrument flight, I have asked certain controllers to slow down a bit. In both medevac and later pipeline patrol, I have been able to avoid your level of congestion. Going into LA with backhaul patients from big training exercises in the Mohave desert, as #2 priority after AF 1, I got vectors direct to the ILS. On pipelines bordering or crossing many class B hub airports, I only contacted Tower five miles out as I was always below class B. I did considerable circling at 200' with a waiver waiting for a slot between airliners. Good job and good eyes finding traffic.
Wow, thank you so much for the encouraging words! That really makes me feel good for sure. I’m definitely trying to get better at my radio calm, in preparation for my instrument rating training. This kind of encouragement Mr. Jimmy definitely goes a long way. Thank you so much, and thank you so much for your support over there many many months. Thank you so much!
I just shared this video with my mom and my brother. Neither of them know anything about aviation! I wanted them to see that being a pilot involves more than just flying the plane! You are part of an orchestrated event that is unique to itself 24/7 365!!
Thank you so much for that! And definitely thank you so much for sharing it with your people. That’s the thing I love about this aviation journey, being able to show people that pilots are just regular people, having interesting experiences. Thank you so much for your support, and I pray that I get to bring more constant like this in the new year. Take care!
Visited Block many time back in our sailing days when you could drop anchor in the great salt pond, dig clams, fish and Ballard's was the hang out for everybody! That was half a century ago...hard to believe, but true. Enjoy it all, Russ! The ATC controller was great, but her delivery was too fast for my 83 year old ears and I would have been happier it you had another pilot as company when the workload in the cockpit escalated!
Thanks for the story! Block Island is definitely a special place! Yeah, the controller was very cool, but definitely spoke very quickly. Thank you for watching, and taking the time to comment. Definitely one of my top five flights this year!
This video definitely makes me want to visit Block Island. That looks really awesome. But I think maybe wait until spring or summer. Now seems like it might not be an ideal time. This also makes me think I need to do a similar tour for a place that's quite a bit closer to me: Jekyll Island, GA. That is one of my favorite places to fly to. Really nice small little airport with no fees and free use of a bike for as long as you want or a golf cart for 2 hours. And there's a very welcoming FBO dog there to greet people. I should do something like this for that place. Thanks for the video idea!
I think you're right. Block Island in the summertime is even more amazing! Definitely do a video of your island down there in Georgia! I’ll probably try to check that out myself as well. Take care! Hopefully our paths will cross in 2025 brother. Take care!
Another great video Russ. Love to fly to B.I. and being based 15 minutes away at KOQU it’s so convenient. I have a Grumman Traveler AA5 (9555L) and enjoy flying around New England. I’ll be looking for your Bird when I’m out and about flying. It would be great to run into you sometime and see that beautiful Cherokee 235 in person. 🛬😊
That would be awesome to fly together sometime. I am looking forward to seeing your Grumman! Will definitely have to try to link up at some time for sure. Take care!
Hey Russ, I’m based on Long Island (KHWV). You should try flying to Good Speed in Connecticut (42B). This is a really cool little New England town and the runway runs along a river…….beautiful! A short walk into towns with several restaurants. The only thing is the runway is about 2,300 feet. Not sure if that is too short for your plane? Take a look. I go there often….i fly a new Aeroprakt A32. I enjoy your videos!
That's a great suggestion, I'll definitely check it out! Thanks for the tip, and I appreciate you watching! I’m fairly sure I can get in to and out of that runway. There’s one that I flew into that was somewhat short like that as well. Your suggestion sounds like my kind of place! Thank you so much for the suggestion, and maybe we can fly there and meet! Take care, and happy new year!
What a great flight!! BID is someplace I need to put on my list!! Great island and what views when landing!! Hope you and the family had a great Christmas and onward we go to 2025!! God Bless and fly safe!!
I hope you get a chance to visit Block Island, it's a beautiful place to fly to! Definitely put it on your list to do. It was definitely one of my top five flights this entire year. The thing I love is the island is definitely user-friendly as you can see. Definitely check it out! Happy new year to you!
Final vid of tha year. Russ Can Drive a moped!🤣 I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself and hopefully had a peaceful and blessed Xmas. Enjoy your weekend fam. HNY! #salute my gud brotha!
Thank you for the kind words, brother! I definitely hope you had a blessed Christmas and a prosperous new year! Thank you for all the support you showed me over the many months brother. It is greatly appreciated!
Russ, great video. I am thinking u can bring an e-scooter in the backseat and have it with you to these destinations. It would be a convenient way to get around.
That is a great idea! I'm thinking about what scooter would be the best fit, I think it would be a great way to get around for sure! Definitely gonna start researching a few to see what makes sense. But I completely agree and think that’s a great idea! Take care, and thanks again for the suggestion.
I like where your head is at! 😂 I was thinking the same thing myself! I really been thinking about what would be best, an electric scooter, a one wheel, an E bike,, or some other motor transportation. Definitely something that is on the to do list.
@@RusscanFLY My lips are sealed haha. Been watching you for a while, and just got my PPL on the 22nd! I fly out of Plymouth so close by and I'm about to transition to the Arrow from the 152 and start visiting some of the same places :) Love the content and the enthusiasm!
@ congratulations on getting your license! That’s awesome! You’ll love the transition to the arrow! You’ll definitely be able to get places, and see some cool stuff. Definitely check out Block Island! Take care, and once again congratulations!
Reminds me a lot of our trip to Mackinac Island but no motor vehicles allowed….loved this one! Hope you can get your wife more comfortable flying and taking these trips with you as well… Hope you had a Blessed Christmas…. Fly Safe Brother!!!!

Love Block Island! My home state. What is that silver rotating arm on the ceiling?
NY departure must of been somewhat intimidating
Very intimidating! You see how rapidly all of those different instructions were happening. It was nuts!
Are there landing fees? If so, might be nice to share what they are.
Fortunately, no landing fees!
You ought to think about buying a small electric scooter for your plane
I like where your head is at! 😂 I was thinking the same thing myself! I really been thinking about what would be best, an electric scooter, a one wheel, an E bike,, or some other motor transportation. Definitely something that is on the to do list.
Climbing to 7000 VFR? Is that not a violation of 91.159? 😂
🤣🤣🤣 don’t tell the FAA on me!
