Dear Sir!!!! You assisted me at 00:54 seconds in. As we suspected, a visiting two year old had adjust the display. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. You saved me a lot of grief and made my whole family happy. May God Bless you
Mine ended up being the contrast control which you first pointed out, so I got lucky this time. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your information. It was EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!!!! You solved my problem and I'm VERY GRATEFUL!!. It's all working fine now.
Thanks for the video. I ordered the replacement screen from Brighton and replaced it following your tutorial. I had one issue, be careful reassembling the keyboard. After I replaced the screen, I used a couple of screws to hold the bottom cover and powered it up to test the screen. The screen worked fine. I proceeded to put all the screws back in the bottom cover, put the keyboard back on the stand, powered it up and found to my dismay that one of the white keys was stuck. One of those metal rods had shifted out of place during reassembly, causing the key to stick. I had to remove all the screws again and realign the metal rod, put all the screws back in...now it works well.
Thank you SO much for posting this video. I've been using my keyboard without a screen for almost 3 years and figured it was time to search youtube. I managed to fiddle with one of the ribbons on the screen itself (using a magnetic screwdriver...if that matters) until the screen came back to life. It was really weird because for the longest time, any pressure on one of the bottom ribbons of the screen would make the screen freak out and flicker. Running the magnetic screwdriver across the soldering points for the ribbon seemed to glitch it back. I really don't know... This video helped me know my way around the insides of the keyboard (at least the applicable stuff) so that I didn't break anything else. Also it was extremely helpful to know that removing the ribbon cables wouldn't hurt anything. I'm confident that if the screen bugs out again that it will be easy to replace it (I ended up having to re-solder the power to the LCD screen anyway as one of them came loose while I was messing with it. Super easy soldering.
I took the whole thing apart and was about to give up after watching multiple TH-cam videos. Apparently all I needed to do was adjust the contrast. Had no clue it was there. Thanks for the help!
I'm glad that you mentioned that the ribbon cable was flipped upside down. I'm experiencing a similar issue with a Casio wk1800 which a friend has loaned to me. The screen is illuminated but there is no data. The wk 1800 is probably very similar to the ypg 235/ dgx 230 in terms of features and construction. So, I'm cautiously optimistic that this could be the solution. Thank you.
Thanks for the information, this was great. My contrast knob needed turned. I also got mine used and the adapter was wrong it was a AC output and it needed a "12v DC output" . It sounded like it wanted to blow up, I know I got real lucky to unplug the AC adapter.
This is a great video for this repair! I ordered from Brighton just like you said, they were very helpful. The display cost about $140. and was not hard at all to install, just a hell of a lot of screws! Display looks perfect now. Thanks!!
Thanks for much for taking the time and effort to share with the rest of us ... I was resigned that mine (YGX-520 Portable Grand) was likely a victim of age. Haven't attempted the fix yet but feel emboldened to give a try with your excellent explanations. Cheers, Louis : ) Ottawa, ON, Canada
Mine was purchased used and it worked great for 2 years. I bought it for kids to play with. Well I thought the screen went but your video said check the contrast knob in the back and guess what. Turned it and whammooo!!. It works fine. Kids messed with buttons in the back that i didn't even know were there. THANK YOU.
Thanks SO much for the help. I worked on it on yesterday and the blue screen/white screen began working again WITHOUT having to replace the screen display. Here is what I did the same: I removed all the screws, I removed the main circuit board; however, I stopped short of removing the display screen. Here is what I did differently: I took a pencil with an eraser and I scrubbed the silver part of the display screen's network cable in order to get a good connection. I used tissue to ensure all eraser particles were removed from the display screen's network cable. I flattened out the double crimp from the cable to make a smooth curve in the network cable. I placed the main circuit board back on top and plugged in all 6 network cables again. Last but not least but MOST IMPORTANTLY, I lifted the keyboard on its side so I could see the display screen. Next, I put POWER to the keyboard and noticed the screen was still solidly blue. I then UNPLUGGED THE DISPLAY SCREEN'S NETWORK CABLE and then PLUGGED IT BACK IN. When I plugged the "uncrimped, cleaned" network cable back in, POWER caused the screen to "RESET ITSELF" and the original banner began the start up again as it did when I first bought the keyboard years ago....! I then unplugged the power again, put the top back on the keyboard, put all the screws back in, mounted the keyboard back on the stand. I am playing the keyboard again with a fresh and new looking display again! I am VERY happy and thankful for all of the steps ya'll helped me with. What I did was a "mixture of all the things I read from different people who tried to help." I felt the need to post this detailed write-up to possibly encourage someone else to try it BEFORE buying the new display screen.
You can absolutely do it... at the very least you can do all of the disassemble and reassemble and just have someone do the soldering for you. If you know anyone that is an electrician preferably or just a real handyman, they will have the pen soldering tool and can just solder 2 little wires onto the screen tabs for you, so when you go to reassemble, you are just twisting wires together! Hope that helps!
BRO! Thank you so much! I've been looking for a replacement screen forever, I found a part but when I went to order it, it was discontinued, but this sounds like a new one ! I can't wait to get this up and going again! Thanks again!
wow this video helped, was about to call a repair guy but then I watched this video. didn't even know there was a contrast tuner knob. kids and their little fingers...
You recorded in good quality, (720p) but your focus was slightly blurred. I think along with other videos I should be able to figure it out. I'm going to try a fix with applying pressure to the connections with clips to see if that works first. Thanks for your well done narrative 👏
There should have been a class action lawsuit against Yamaha for this! The part was obviously defective from the beginning to be happening in so many of these keyboards. I definitely won't be buying another Yamaha product. Its a shame because I love the board. :(
To hell with the amount of screws......! I have the same issue but I love the sound of the keyboard and am in the process of doing a easy fix but omg!!! The amount of screws they put in there for no other reason than to dissuade owners from doing their own repairs. Thanks for posting tho'.
Thank you so much for uploading this!!! I have this keyboard, and the screen recently went dead. From what I've read on a few different sites, this seems to be a rather common problem with these keyboards, which is a shame. :( Anyway, this video gives me a pretty good handle on what to do if I opt to replace the screen. Very helpful! Thanks again!
great job bro my keyboard yamaha psr s900 scree went bad, dark. I am gone go head and order one and do it my self then paying another $100 labour cost. good clear explanation. Thanks alot.
You are the epitome of altruism for this video my good sir. I think this will make a great father / son project. Did Yamaha consider sending you a replacement since so many of us have this problem? I will call Monday. Again thank you sincerely. Lawson Di Ransom Canyon
Already replaced the screen once and it's flickering again, I guess I'll try doing it myself, cleaning the ribbon cables and all. Thanks for the video.
This video is great. It's given me the confidence to try to repair the screen myself. Unfortunately, the video stops at 3:01. Is there any way to fix this so that I can see the entire video? Thanks for the great job.
Thanks you thank you thank you! It was only the contrast knob for me, but still I was so scared that I would have to fix it somehow. I've only had mine for less than a year and I didn't want to already fix it. But it was just that little thing, but thanks anyways! :D
I still have the Old screen and these are the numbers on the back of it: BLD2019W & SYE6724C2441 (The new replacement part has these: BLD2554W & SYE10920A5447-C) Hope that helps!
i have an mm6 that has a bad screen. i took it apart to see if i could find a loose connections some where and i did not. so it looks like i will be forking out 180$ for a new one. i just hope the replacement doesn't go out in a year and a half like the first one did.
Ok, the very simple question that I have not been able to get an answer to: WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER OF THE ORIGINAL MFR OF THAT LCD SCREEN? I know you said WU967500, but I suspect that is the re-numbered P/N that yamaha puts on the lcd part. I have heard that the original mfr of the that part is Powertip, and possibly that the part is called 320X240. Is there any way someone can clue me in to the actual mfr of the lcd, and the actual original part #?
Not sure if you're still checking this thread or not, but I am petrified of doing this myself, with saudering involved and all. Do you recommend any places that do this? Or I would need a VERY detailed video from you, haha. Please help :)
My keys get stick on my ypg 635 would you now how fix that problem and thanks for that first 15 sec of the video didn't realize about the contrast light on the back
my screen lights up blue, initially had the half screen but now all data is missing. adjusting the contrast turns screen white or blue... maybe a loose connection?

Did this repair today. Your video was extremely helpful. Because of it, I was able to get it right on my first try. Thank you!

Thanks, perfect instruction. Got me going on my repairs for a friends YPG-625, saved a lot of fumbling around. Just the right amount of info.

Thank you! You solved my problem without me even needing to watch the full video. It was the contrast :)
Also: having a battery drill/screw gun is extremely helpful. Having a #2 6" magnetized extension is also very helpful.
You solved my problem 45 seconds into your video. Kudos and thank you.
Right on!! Thats good news!
Didn't know there was a contrast knob. Thanks for the first 50 seconds!
had the same problem!! so happy i didnt have to get it repaired!

I wonder if this same lcd will work for the ypg-635?

No. We still had sound. Unfortunately that seems like another issue as well. :(

+Eric S. Im having the same issue... were you able to find a solution?
@guidrummer1 Glad to hear! Good Luck!
Hope you bought a better camera since 2011.
Great question... not sure on that one. Best to talk to a computer hardware guy on that.
Great video! Thanks
I think most of the times it probably just need a good cleaning. Just get a can of compressed air and get all the dust out of there.
Please also show me how to replace the battery please?
Pak mohon tanya... kiboard saya fsrs 770 waktu kasi on yg hidup hanya layar monitor tapi lampu lampu tuts nga hidup, coba solusinya pak...!
Looks like 14 small wires in the small flat ribbon cable.
