    Great idea. You should add a metal hook to the other end for multiple uses.

      Thanks! That's an idea I can toy with!

    I like it! Nice and simple! I'm a bladesmith and recovering Machinist (LoL) so I tend to over complicate things. Anyway, I'm planning a similar mod to my stick. I'm going to run a section of 3/4" pipe in like yours. Difference being, I'm leaving the thread and using a end cap that I drilled and welded a bolt ground to a spike in it. Plan more caps with different uses. Good work, both stick and video!

      Thanks! Make sure the bottom part has something to dig into the ground.

      Joe Deer Runner , that's what the bolt is for,😉. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the cap and welded a 3" bolt in. Cut the threads off and ground a point on it. About an inch of spike. Now I'll have to make a cap with a tip like yours!

    I did the same thing with my walking stick, but yours is better, Joe. I didn't make the flattened part of the pipe long enough. It only extends about an inch and a half below the bottom of the stick. It works fine for everything you mentioned, but doesn't jab into the ground well when I use my walking stick for an upright support for my tarp. That is another great use for this stick. I cut my walking stick to the right height to use as an upright support for two of my favorite tarp configurations. I also rounded the top of the stick so it won't poke a hole in my tarp. So a question for you: How long is the flattened part of the pipe on your walking stick?

      Glad to have helped! You'll find how much use this will have.

    Sure, you can break the bottle, but why? And, you did notice the rocks all over the place, right? Have you ever seen what them puppies can do to a bottle?

      I'm going to make the assumption that you've flint knapped before. Why I used the metal part to break the bottle, is its more precise to get the bottom off. Using a rock is not as precise when getting the bottom off, and not as safe.

      Joe Deer Runner but why the need to break the bottle at all?

    • @JoeDeerRunner
      @JoeDeerRunner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimhill2087 Simple really, in some places, like my area, materials to make primitive cutting tools like arrowheads and small cutting tools are hard to come by. And since people like to leave their trash, like bottles, I can use the bottom part of it to make either a arrowhead or a cutting tool. Hence breaking the bottle. Your question is actually inspiring me to make a video on how to make a quick and simple arrowhead out of the bottom of a bottle.

    Self defense against a coyote or wild dog with stick? That's why I carry a sidearm when I hike. But no so much for wild animals, but for two legged predators.

      True, as do I, but it does help to have a back up.
