I always get emotional at Tosh's death because you literally watch the light leave her eyes, and if that isn't one of the most powerful death scenes on television, then I don't know what is.
“Space Pig”. That wasn’t just the same actress, that was actually Tosh in the DW Episode ‘Aliens of London’. So actually, Tosh met the Doctor before Jack did.
A sweet thing about them going out together is that Owen has to face the darkness all over again. Only this time he won't be doing it alone. He'll have Tosh by his side. Beautiful stuff.
When I heard about these 2 dying, I figured they'd be together when it happened. It broke my heart when I saw they died apart, a whole city between them, and no way to look into each other's eyes and realise what they had. Torchwood really knows how to throw their gut punches 😭
@dr103 It always annoyed me how in Death in Heaven and Dark Water its shown that Missy has been uploading humans' brains into the Matrix since the beginning of humanity's idea of an afterlife. Meaning that it contradicts what is shown in Torchwood.
@@Sonicbolt456 Not really. The dead dude in episode 1 probably hadn't been dead long enough for Missy to get to him. Jack is immortal so Missy probably couldn't have uploaded his mind. Therefore he really did just see blackness. Or if we really want to, maybe that blackness is what's there before Missy uploads them.

Same with Suzie, she was dead for much longer than anyone else was, for a few weeks to even a couple months. Yet when she came back to life she still only saw the darkness. Something I love about this scene is it really shows how much Jack loved his comrades. Like, look how absolutely devastated he is watching her die right in her arms. This is someone he's known for like 5 to 10 years? And at this point, Jack is like 400 years old? You'd think he would be desensitized and swift to accept it, but he's absolutely mortified about losing her. Jack loves his people. In more ways than one.
I really wish we’d seen more of tosh and jack’s relationship. she was by far the most underserved character, maybe second only to ianto. We caught a glimpse of her and jack in “Captain Jack Harkness” but she deserved better
3:25-3:33 The look she gives him followed by the look he gives her just says it all. Even though she clarifies her thankfulness in her video message, this is all so powerful. Jack's look breaks my heart.
This was heartbreaking😭😭😭 Tosh was my favourite character aside from Jack of course and it was so sad watching her die, even seeing the light fade from her eyes. AND THEY NEVER GOT THEIR DATE!!!😭 Also, the fact that owen thought that tosh was ok and well and would survive before he died is even more heart wrenching. And can I just say that this music was also perfect. So so so heartbreaking and perfect to say goodbye to tosh with.😭

Seriously, the lad flies into some sort of heaven at the end and the Torchwood team just watch. And he still continues to talk after he left Earth. Next episode, it's back to darkness and nothing.

Space pigs! I love it when DW continuity is 100% on point. Tosh was in the S1 episode of DW with the Slythene in parliament, dissecting the space pig that crashed the ship into Big Ben. I’m sure at the time there wasn’t any plan to make a bigger deal out of that character but it’s nice they go back and connect things when a actor is reused for a more major role like Tosh later on. Gwen’s actress was also in a Victorian episode of DW with Rose mentioning it later on when they met that she must have been an ancestor.
Toshikos death is one of a acting masterclass , no head tilt , no ahhhhh , no agony she just goes to say something and you see her leave her body through her eyes. Bravo Naoko Mori , fabulous acting, you even see dribble from her mouth and tears in her eyes , one of the best deaths not just in television but in films and acting in general I bow my head to you. Xx

Toshs death is horrible but Owen's was down right terrifying because while he might not have suffered physically like tosh did he must of mentally. He can still see and hear so imagen watching yourself rot away then your vision and hearing goes and he could still of been awake after that just un able to see or hear but still know what was happening to him and even then we don't know if he died or his soul got trapped so the whole concept of his death is just vile.
It really confuses me how Chibnall can write stuff like this, which easily tops any Doctor Who ‘death’ or companion exit imo. But he can’t write one even just *good* episode of Doctor Who after two seasons. Instead he ruins over 50 years of canon in a single finale. He’s becoming senile.

Exactly! I mean some of Chibnall's DW stuff had potential. For example, while the Timeless Child plotline was executed in a way that screwed over canon, elements of it could fit into DW lore established back in the classic series (like the whole speculation that the Doctor could potential be the Other, one of the founders of Gallifrey), but other than the bare elements Chibnall's ideas have either ruined canon or made no sense. Yet when you look at this scene from Torchwood it's so good and you have to wonder just what happened.

Because the grey story didn't have enough emotional impact, You can't kill Jack because he's the foundation of the show and the face of boe, Gwen was basically the audience surrogate so you cant kill her, Ianto wasn't properly with Jack for long enough to have the right impact (hence why he was killed later). Owen and Tosh are mainly tied to each other and (despite how great and well written they are) they were the least essential to the show and the lack of resolution that comes from BOTH of them dying is far more impactful than any other character pair dying. Although Honestly It would've been better to Kill just Tosh, leaving Owen with great arc potential in Children of Earth, and then have Ianto die the same way as it still disbands Torchwood and give room for miracle day to be much better. Imagine an Owen Harper stuck grieving the loss of the woman he loved, no longer able to even eat or sleep, stuck at the lowest point in his existence in a world where he is either the only one who is exempt from the miracles effects entirely, or worse yet is alive again. This same Owen would have a much deeper bond with Gwen and Jack (Especially the latter due to their shared loss of Tosh and Ianto respectively) being forced to give up the life he has regained in order to save it, imagine all the character development of the man who can never live and the man who can never die both becoming mortal once more for a few months and having to deal with the fall out of returning to their separate situations at the end of the story, hell depending on the writer you could have Owen return to life as almost a reward for being willing to give it up or maybe even have series 5 follow Owen as a "Dead Man Walking" again but learning to become at peace with his existence at last before finally being able to let go for good as the energy keeping him going finally dissipates and he dies once more except this time rather than in bloodshed and shock it is in peace and acceptance. Finally giving Owen Harper the death he deserved and making full use of the wasted character and storytelling potential of Killing him so early on.
All of this because Jack's brother truly and utterly hated him, and wanted him to suffer as much as possible and even more than that. Subjected his loved ones to even more pain.
Back When Russell T Davies actually made good shows, How he went from making amazing shows like this, to completely destroying what made him famous in the first place. modern Dr who
To this day, with all the Game of Thrones, Expanse, House of Cards, The Crown, and all the other amazing shows out there, I still don't think there was ever a better TV character than Owen Harper.
At the time I thought this was done purely to bring Martha Jones and Mickey Smith back into Torchwood as replacements with Captain John as a recurring character.
Either the most agonizing feeling or the most boring. I just like to think he’s a spirit tethered to his ashes like a dog chained to a pole- but he’s just like “still better than death chasing me and at least I’m not camping.” in typical Owen fashion- least until miracle day where the immortals finally become mortal, and he passes away with little fanfare- no death chasing him because there’s no death at all. Soul is at rest, least for a little bit.

To this day, with all the Game of Thrones, Expanse, House of Cards, The Crown, and all the other amazing shows out there, I still don't think there was ever a better TV character than Owen Harper.

Either the most agonizing feeling or the most boring. I just like to think he’s a spirit tethered to his ashes like a dog chained to a pole- but he’s just like “still better than death chasing me and at least I’m not camping.” in typical Owen fashion- least until miracle day where the immortals finally become mortal, and he passes away with little fanfare- no death chasing him because there’s no death at all. Soul is at rest, least for a little bit.
