I love the Adagio for Strings rendition in the background of the intro. Throwback to the destruction of Kharak.

I really appreciated your calm commentary and the way you tried not to talk too much over the dialogue. I rarely watch videogame content these days, but Homeworld is one of those fascinating games I've never played, but has something about it.

Totally agree w you. The sound design and atmosphere with ship comms has always been amazing. I read that they focused a lot on making the HW 3 comms more conditional to create a sense of responding to in-game action.
The comms are so good, sounds so genuine and real. Often monotone and calm, like you hear from pilots and military communication in real life.
Not some burly dudebro "fOr tHe eMprAh" crap.

Aesthetically, HW3 is soooo good rn. I recommend it just for the campaign (although war games is actually pretty fun as well). The story is not so good I heard, but I think it's passable (haven't finished the campaign yet but the bad guy basically wants to control the universe or something; pretty relatable).
HW3 looks great, but using CGI over the animated paintings for the cutscenes felt kind of step backwards, imo

Man the art and sound design of this game are amazing.
Homeworld in general is such a awesome game, marrying the visual, FXs, soundtracks. Especially the soundtracks, it always has some kind of melancholy feels to it.

They should have used that moving painting look from Deserts of Kharak for the cutscenes. They could be cheaper and more numerous.

I was born in 1980. First game was Donkey Kong. What a long way we've come. In such a short time. There also and still is Eve Online out there (a masterpiece in its own right), if only it wasn't so boring (to me I mean, even if I played it for years...).
I was born in 85, my first console was a hand-me-down Atari. I try to explain to my nephew spaceships used to just be triangles and now we have this. I couldn't imagine how games will look when he's my age.
I was born in '68. My first game was Pong on a black and white television. Lol! Been gaming ever since. HW is a great series.
How the game?
This game looks pretty good (as it should be) but from a story point I always thought Cataclysm made sense. Like.. why would you have left port without scouting thrusters researched? Why was the manufacturing bay left unguarded? In Cata, you're just a random mining ship so all of these basic lacks kinda just fit.
The tone of this game feels much lighter than hw 2 and 1. Hw 1 feels cold and serious, making it the best for me

I agree with you here. Homeworld 1 was quite literally forging a path to your Homeworld after your planet basically got decimated from orbitz. It's literally the survival of their species. Homeworld 2 played off on that a little bit but with a whole different race and 100 years into the future. I like how they did more to include the Bentusi even though they died in Mission 10. But there are a lot of unanswered questions for the lore in between Homeworld 2 and Homeworld 3.
Can you imagine if HW3 has mod support? Can you imagine re-enacting the Battle of Endor & the Battle of Wolf 359?

Are the movement and camera controls as they were in the demo? They were awful.
Very different approach of mothership constructions, Before new hiigarans the kushans build an scaffold to build the ms around it, now the new ms is build inside a base in the planet, different, am only hope than the game allow to be modded for a valiant person than add the taiidan or the devs add the taiidan in the new game as a campaign dlc or race, because what is astonish me is how the taiidan once powerfull and even feared has fallen to the point of irrelevance and become simple an anecdote. a little sad for a race than also put their part to found the galactic council.
Shoot, who voices Intel at the opening cutscene there? His voice actor is on the tip of my tongue!

Music is bsg esque
The OG Homeworld was designed to be a BSG game till they lost the rights, that explains some desing choices like the jump without needing acceleration, for example.

Those cutscenes are weird
So... they send an incomplete capitol-class ship with no capitol-class weaponry (only point-defense), completely without escort, to a region of space they know is not secure. The point defense weaponry itself is so inaccurate it can't even score hits on an enemy capitol ship when in range, firing wide by several times the enemy ship's length. Wow, miss me with this game. This first episode is infuriatingly stupid from a writing perspective. The player faction deserves to be wiped out.
Do not like how they went away from art style of previous Home world games. Kind of dispelled magic and take out imagination play but then maybe I'm just to old.

the homeworld developers are the dumbest smart people i have ever seen. so am i supposed to learn camera work, resourcing, 2 unit types and at least one countdown at the same time? have you not learned anything after fouling up 3 games? look to your betters who made cataclysm for tips in mission design.

man those green health bars shouldnt exist !! they destroy the immersion in game, and that rectangle blue gateway concept in space is ugly and unprofessional, it needs better design concept.
they should have given you the option to upgrade the weapons of the mothership, even add armor ,shield, and ultimately giving you the option to choose among 3 types of motherships, offense focuses on heavy weapons for long range attack and attacks on big ships, defense focuses on short range weapons to destroy small drons, aircrafts, and carrier ship which focuses on drones and aircafts as a means of defense and attack

Ok so let's look at this. Lead female unattractive, check. First male character POC, check. What a shame.
Homeworld always have been about the Hiigaran people surviving and battling an enemy bent on destroying them, this feels like a character story with a comming of age arc, i suppose they are trying to make it more personal and emotionally investing but it just doesnt feel right, it looks like homeworld mobile crossed with homeworld dok, the story is so limited and short for a galactic empire fighting an invasive enemy and the limited ship amount makes it feel like a dlc not a game we been waiting 20+ years for?! why is the tech so regressive?! why is the UI like a pay to win mobile game?! this doesnt feel like homeworld!
