DCC Converting A Bachmann N Scale Thomas The Tank Engine.

Hi everyone.
First of all, if I sound a bit tired in the video, it’s because I literally just came home from a night shift and decided to do this conversion so I’ve not slept for almost 22 hours😋!
In this video I show you how I converted Bachmann’s N scale Thomas the tank engine from DC to DCC operation.
The decoder I used was a Gaugemaster Ruby DCC92 which was the smallest decoder I could find available online.
As there’s no lighting functions etc, I only needed motor control so that made choosing a smaller decoder much easier, it was still a snug fit though and needed a bit of grinding & filing here & there to make sure everything fitted inside tidily.

Hi. I think the only feasible way to add sound would be to use Annie to install the decoder and speaker in with very fine wires ruining between Annie & Thomas for track pick ups and motor control. You’d have to mill out so much of Thomas’s chassis to make room that there wouldn’t be much weight left at all and that would ruin his running properties.

@@EagleCreekRailRoad im gonna go whole hog with my cab cars. Sound decoder, working ditch lights and gyro. Just picked up two of the pullman metra cars with kobo lighting installed and they look great! Think in florida im gonna try get a f40ph and the 3 metra car bookset. My mp36 is also getting sound while im there.

@@EagleCreekRailRoad i just ordered a 3d peinted body shell of one from shapeways that fits on an f40 chassis. Would just need to source handrails and grills etc as it was designed using blma stuff which is no longer available
