I Remember that day. The Elizabeth St, Bourke St Corner under 3 foot of water ( it’s a creek). The trains nor running due to flooding at Flinders St Station & all the tunnels flooded. I was inside fortunately.

Elizabeth Street is built on an old creek bed, as you pointed out, there was a small waterfall there emptying into the Yarra. I know this because it is part of the instruction telling my 5x great grandfather where his land was. He owned a block on Elizabeth Street and Flinders lane/ Collins Street. That is why Elizabeth Street floods, I remember that day as well. I remember Chapel Street was flooded, from just north of Windsor station all the way Nth to at least Commercial Rd. We went out and splashed around in the water, our Street was partly flooded, had water in the backyard. Dad had already filled in the old cellar that was prone to flooding in a decent downpour.

Its not hard to see how this track inspired the likes of Rose Tattoo and AC/DC. This time in our history is long gone, but never forgotten. and especially now, they're sadly missed.

1972 Melbourne - February flood caused rail chaos.
June train strike caused overcrowded trams and buses, and pedestrian chaos.

@Bruce Parkes I thought of it being suited to that era and location. Flinders Street Station, Melbourne City.....1972.
Sharpies were becoming really prevalent then and this instrumental guitar powerhouse from Lobby Lloyde and The Colored Balls suited the period footage

Moved to Melbourne from country Victoria in 1974 and never saw people clinging onto the sides of trams. The sort of thing that happens in Bangladesh or India.

I was working at Formal Wear Hire in Elizabeth St. when the flood happened. We were chest deep on the footpath pushing floating cars away from the front windows. Fairways menswear had their first real water damage sale. lol

Thanks Gezza. Then a 14 year old being on the front page of Go-Set at the Myer Music Bowl. The flood that happened, at some point in my reckoning, did hamper my soft drink sales and being young could scamper up and get to where the bulk drink was anyways. Nah, that's not quite right. I was 12

Gezza, Lizzy Street was a natural creek course before Settlement. So when the big rains come it used to flow down from the north to the Yarra.
