Sure would be nice if you would give the simple option to invert the image.... my reverse camera is upside down and I've never seen a head unit that didn't have the ability to invert the back up camera image.... not to mention when I "manually select" my backup camera I get a black screen but when I put my truck in reverse it works fine.... lol

If the camera switches on when the vehicle is in reverse and can not be seen when the camera view is selected, this means you have the camera wiring installed incorrectly. You are using some combination of Purple/White wire and power source (possibly the backup lights) to power up the camera only when the vehicle is in reverse. Your camera should have power at all times when the vehicle is switched on and the camera should switch off when the vehicle is switched off. The Purple/White wire is used to let the in-dash receiver know the vehicle is in it's reverse gear and to automatically open the backup camera window. Selecting Camera View also opens the camera window on the in-dash receiver. Do not connect the Purple/White to the camera. You can see more about the Purple/White wire and wiring Pioneer in-dash receivers in this video: th-cam.com/video/-bF3uzzaT30/w-d-xo.html You can find more videos on Pioneer's You Tube Channel here: th-cam.com/users/pioneerelectronics

@@deckerdotto6035 you are correct I believe, my only power source to the camera is the reverse lights so that would explain it. Luckily I don't run into many situations where I need my reverse camera outside of being in reverse so it's a non issue. But if you're in the position to do so, do take the advice of adding an invert image for the reverse camera. Would have saved me 30 mins of fooling around making a new bracket to mount my camera upside down so I had a right side up image, which confuses my as to why it's the case in the first place but oh well.....

In order to view the Parking Assist guidelines on the Pioneer DMH-1500NEX, you'll need to touch the screen when the vehicle is in reverse gear and the parking assist guide line button appears. The guidelines will automatically disappear when you take the vehicle out of reverse gear. You can adjust the guideline as seen in this Pioneer How To video: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html I'm not aware of a way to automatically display the guide lines. • @deckerdotto6035

It sounds like there is an incorrect connection for the Purple/White wire on the in-dash receiver. Purple/White is used to let the in-dash receiver know the vehicle is in it's reverse gear and this will automatically open the back up camera window on the in-dash receiver. It should also automatically close the back up camera window when you use another gear. In your case it sounds like the voltage on the Purple/White wire is not changing when you take the vehicle out of reverse. The camera should have power at all times when the vehicle is switched on. And the camera should power off when the vehicle is switched off. Just because the camera has power does not mean you are viewing the camera image. Do not connect the Purple/White Wire from the in-dash receiver to the camera. Please be more specific with the model number of your Pioneer in-dash receiver. You can usually find the model number on the face of the receiver. For example: MVH-AV251BT,
or AVH-2550NEX, or DMH-241EX. Some Pioneer receivers have parking assist guide lines and others do not.

@@vanessaGonz22 Thank you for the additional information. The Pioneer MVH-AV251BT was manufactured back in 2017-2018 and does not include parking assist guidelines. There are a few options to get parking assist guidelines. First is to install a different camera that creates it's own parking assist guidelines. 2nd is to get a new in-dash receiver that will generate the parking assist guidelines like the Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX seen here: th-cam.com/video/B2TTfJUD-es/w-d-xo.html or the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX seen here: th-cam.com/video/QrvNkGgRo7E/w-d-xo.html Pioneer makes many receivers with parking assist guidelines. These are just 2 examples. One other possibility will depend upon the vehicle and using iDatalink Maestro RR in the installation. If your vehicle is supported you may be able to use Maestro RR with the current in-dash receiver to use the guideline created by the vehicle. However, please note, this is only if it's supported by Maestro.

In the camera settings menu, be sure to switch Back Camera Input to On. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html
Pioneer in-dash receivers are designed to work with the Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera. I don’t know about the operation of other cameras.
Be sure to plug the Brown camera output RCA into the Brown RCA Input on the back of the Pioneer in dash receiver.
The Pioneer ND-BC8 camera needs power and ground to operate. The camera should always have power when the vehicle is switched on. And the camera should power off when the vehicle is switched off. This is very similar to the way the Red Accessory wire works on a Pioneer in-dash receiver. Just because the camera has power does not mean you are viewing the camera window on the in-dash receiver.
The receiver’s violet/white wire is used to let the in-dash receiver know that the vehicle is in it’s reverse gear and, to automatically open the backup camera window on the receiver screen.
Do not connect the violet/White wire to the camera.
When you put the vehicle in it’s reverse gear, the violet/White wire should sense a change in voltage. This automatically opens the camera window on the in-dash receiver. And closes the camera window, when the vehicle is taken out of it’s reverse gear. One possibly connection for the violet/White Reverse Gear wire is the vehicle’s backup lamp terminal.

It sounds like you are using the Purple/White Reverse Gear wire on the in-dash receiver to power the camera. This means the camera will only have power when the vehicle is in reverse. @@jonathanhawke9681 Most cameras have very low power consumption. You may be able to wire the camera power wire to the same circuit as the in-dash receiver. You need a power source that is switched on/off with the vehicle.

When you put the vehicle in reverse, the in-dash receiver's backup camera window opens, but with no picture. This is usually caused by a few different things.
It sounds like you don't have power to the camera. Or you don't have the camera plugged into the proper Brown RCA input on the back of the receiver.
Pioneer in-dash receivers are designed to work with the Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera. I don’t know about the operation of other cameras.

There's a subtle omission not shown at the 4:30 mark that everyone who is considering an NEX should know about beforehand. As shown, the parking line adjustment requires initiating the parking brake to make the function active. It will not display the camera when you are trying to adjust the lines. You have to adjust blindly, i.e. put it in reverse to see the actual parking space, then put back in to park to adjust again, toggling back and forth between P and R continuously until you get the lines the way you want them. It's a totally idiotic process.

    • @pioneerelectronics
      @pioneerelectronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Your backup camera may be wired incorrectly. When you engage the parking brake and enter the receiver's parking assist line adjustment screen, the in-dash receiver should automatically open the camera view window. And that is exactly what happens, and is shown in detail at the 4:30 mark in the video as seen here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html
In your vehicle, if you are seeing a black screen with the parking assist line overlay, that means the in-dash receiver is automatically switching to the camera view screen. This is normal operation for the receiver. However, your camera is wired incorrectly and is not powered up. So, no camera image.
If you are not seeing a camera image it may be because you are using the backup light circuit and the receiver's violet wire with white stripe to power your camera. In that case you can only see a camera image when the vehicle is in reverse gear.
You can test this by activating the Camera View in the source selection screen as show here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html If you can't see a camera image when Camera View is activated, it means your camera is wired incorrectly.

@@pioneerelectronics Thank you for this information. I will go back to the installers with it. In the installation manual, it says that the light green lead MUST be connected to the parking brake switch in order for the "Camera View" and "Parking Line Assist" functions to operate with a view of the backup camera (not black). In the case of my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, it looks like the intallers would splice into the power lead of the parking brake switch's connector to make this happen? I also assume that this connector would have a power lead that's always on when the car is on, and therefore wouldn't require the parking brake to be actuated to use the Camera View properly, because ....well .... you can't drive forward with the parking brake on. :)

@@pioneerelectronics Thank you again for the reply. I have the AVH-2550NEX and the ND-BC8 camera. The installation manual and operator's manual explicitly states that the light green lead should be connected to the parking brake switch, which I assume means that the green lead is spliced into the parking brake switch connector of 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. I plan on investigating this area in the next day or so to see if I can see what has been done, but the installers were emphatic that there was no power source to make the camera work during the previously mentioned functions. TH-cam does not allow me to provide links to my TH-cam videos where I describe more, but if there's some way I can get in contact with a support individual who is truly intimate with the process, please let me know. I have only one video out on my channel here, so you can watch it and see where I give more detail. I am a supporting viewer of a "Panther" (Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Lincoln) channel, who has many owners very interested in the details of this situation.

    • @pioneerelectronics

@@frankfarklesberry I agree with you. The light green wire should be connected to the parking brake switch. If you need to engage the parking brake to access the Parking Guide Line Adjust menu, ( and some other menu items for example the Bluetooth menu) the parking brake and light green wire connected to it appear to be functioning correctly.
The issue is powering the ND-BC8 camera. The camera should power on and off with the vehicle. Just like the in-dash receiver does. If the installer says there is no way to power the camera on and off with the vehicle, please have the installer connect the camera's Red Wire directly to the Red Wire on the back of the in-dash receiver. The in-dash receiver powers on and off with the vehicle and, the camera can do this as well. This camera has a maximum power consumption of 100mA or less. That's about 0ne tenth of one amp. The circuit operating the in-dash receiver should work perfectly to power the camera on and off with the in-dash receiver. The Pioneer ND-BC8 has only 3 wires. 1 is a brown RCA connection that goes to the brown camera input on the receiver. The other two wires on the camera are black for ground and, Red for accessory power. You can see this in the owner's manual for the camera on pages 5 and 6. The camera should have power when the vehicle switches on. The camera should power off when the vehicle switches off. Do not connect the Purple/White Reverse Gear wire to the camera. Just because the camera has power does not mean you are viewing the camera image. The Purple/White reverse gear wire tells the in-dash receiver when the vehicle is in it's reverse gear and this can automatically open and close the camera view window. Pioneer in-dash receivers dedicated backup camera inputs are designed to operate with reverse view cameras such as Pioneer ND-BC8 seen here: th-cam.com/video/kg0IaGC3JbE/w-d-xo.html I'm not aware of a way to reverse the camera image with Pioneer AVH-601EX. I don't recognize "bdc02.camera" Do you mean Pioneer ND-BC2 camera from about 2002? Is this camera plugged into the in-dash receiver's Brown Backup Camera input? mine goes in to reverse than camera come on for a second than shuts off the unit it self is great but back up is starting to piss me off tried 2 ways of the connections both due the same and installers are stumped as well ,also this unit is on a 60s car so not much wires here all of us are missing something .

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 ปีที่แล้ว

When you say it's "on for a second than shuts off the unit" , what do you mean? It restarts the in-dash receiver? Or, the in-dash receiver screen goes black? or the in-dash receiver screen closes the camera window, and goes back to the music source screen?
Be sure to plug the camera into the Brown Input on the back of the in dash receiver.
The camera should have power at all times when the vehicle is on, and the camera should be off when the vehicle is switched off.
The Purple/White Wire on the in-dash receiver is used to let the in-dash receiver know that the vehicle is in reverse and to open the backup camera window. The Purple/White Wire does not give the camera power. Do not connect the camera to the Purple/White Wire. You can see more about Wiring here: th-cam.com/video/-bF3uzzaT30/w-d-xo.html Here are a couple simple tests: Go to the in-dash receiver source screen and turn on the camera view. This will open the camera window. If the camera is properly installed, you will see an image. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html If you can't turn on the camera from the source screen, the camera does not have power or is not properly connected. If you can see the camera, check the Purple/White wire. Connect the Purple/White to 12 volts constant. Change the camera polarity to suit your installation. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html This will simulate putting the vehicle in reverse, and will open the camera window on the in-dash receiver. If you only see a black screen, the camera is not operating properly. You can find more videos from Pioneer here: th-cam.com/video/ObpKXwrN8us/w-d-xo.html

The Pioneer AVH-1330NEX does not include an option to reverse the camera image. It's designed to operate with the Pioneer ND-BC8 reverse image backup camera. When using the 2nd camera input, you can use the ND-BC8 camera in reverse image applications. For example a dedicated towing camera, or hitch camera, or any application where a reverse image is desired or a forward facing image is not required. If you want to use the 2nd camera input as a forward facing camera, I recommend to use a camera that is designed for forward facing use. Please be sure your camera in plugged into the receiver's Brown RCA backup camera input. This is the dedicated backup camera input. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/16JgX6z8Mhs/w-d-xo.html Pioneer in-dash receivers are designed to work with the Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera.
When you say the "rear view camera stays black", please explain in more detail. When you put the vehicle in reverse gear, does the screen automatically open the camera window and the camera window is black? Is anything displayed? On screen text at the top of the screen? Or are you activating the camera view from the in-dash receiver home screen? If you are activating the camera from the home screen, are you seeing a timer and an "X" at the top of the screen? Are you using camera input 1 or camera input 2 or both? Does your high resolution camera have an RCA Type of connection? Or does the camera have an HDMI connection? What is the camera output type? PAL/NTSC/SECAM?

I have a new AVH-1550NEX. I have had trouble with the back up camera coming on by itself when driving (also, a few times, Apple Car Play). The camera is wired correctly, comes on when in reverse and then goes off when I shift to drive, as it should. It also comes on when I ask it too from the AV menu or Apps button. But when I switch it off, sometimes a few seconds later, it pops back on. I finally decided it might have something to do with the Timer feature. I remember touching that icon once upon a time, but never paid it much attention. I fiddled with it and a bit and now the problem seems to have gone away. Does the unit remember the timer mode, such that once selected, it will always switch the camera back on after a few seconds of inactivity on the screen? This feature is not well explained in the manual, and I don't have much use for it. Why do you need to interrupt the rear camera view to fiddle with the radio in the first place?

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 4 ปีที่แล้ว

On Pioneer AVH-1550NEX, when you put the vehicle in it's reverse gear, the backup camera window automatically opens and, closes when the vehicle is taken out of reverse. There is no timer function available when the vehicle is in it's reverse gear. When you go to the AV screen, and manually open the camera window, a timer function appears at the top left of the screen and, an "X" appears at the top right of the screen. Once you have chosen to manually open the camera window, it will stay open until you close the camera window by touching the "X" at the top right. You can operate any other function of the in-dash receiver including Apple CarPlay by using the Timer function. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html The timer function will go back to the camera view after about 5 seconds of inactivity. That means any operation of the receiver will keep it on the source screen. Volume up or down, change radio station, change a song, instruction from navigation, phone calls, text messages, etc... Please note: If you choose to open the camera window, it will stay open until you close it by touching the "X" at the top right. The camera timer is a very useful tool when you want to drive and keep the camera on. For example: when monitoring a tow vehicle, I keep the camera on. I touch the timer function to operate the AV source on the in-dash receiver and I want the camera view to automatically come back when I'm through operating the AV source. @@deckerdotto6035 Thank you; you've cleared-up my confusion with the Timer button. Another mistake I made is pressing the button that switches between the Application screen and the AV operation screen to get rid of the camera window (which it does temporarily), instead of closing the camera window with the "X." For whatever reason, when you do that, the camera view comes back to haunt you. Once I press that button and, say, the radio application screen comes into view, its a matter of seconds before the camera view pops back on. I still haven't figure out why that happens.

I have the DMH-1500NEX. The backup camera has been working great for months. Suddenly, it's showing a strange angle. Almost like a second camera is installed and it's looking straight down. I only have one camera installed. Is there a setting to fix this? It does it the moment I put my car in reverse. I recommend to press the microprocessor reset button on the in-dash receiver. You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the microprocessor reset button. You can find the microprocessor reset button on the Pioneer DMH-1500NEX on the hard key panel to the far right. This may correct the issue. If not, it's possible it's a wiring issue and something has come loose or become a weak connection.
If OEM Camera, and using Maestro you may need to check RCA ground shield coming off that t harness and add ground the the camera output RCA.
      • If not using Maestro, But retaining the OEM Camera some factory cameras require a 12Volt to 6 Volt step down camera adapter module and these can go bad or loose ground depending on where ground was picked up. Check voltage at this module for correct output voltage and ground.
If grounded in the rear of the vehicle , sometimes rust can accumulate over time (especially with rain or snow) and results with added resistance that causes distorted camera imaging while displaying on the front monitor when shifted into reverse. 12V supplied to the camera should be connected to Accessory and not using the reverse lights them self as a power source. Higley recommended. I like to power and ground any rearview camera at the same connection point as the radio’s main Accessory power & ground point, so you know exactly where power and ground are coming from for your camera.
      • Simply pull the radio check the Brown Rearview RCA Camera input and complete a simple test by ground a piece of wire to the chassis of the radio (ground) and touch the other end of the wire to just the outer shield of the RCA connecter going into the Brown Rearview RCA Camera input, shift into reverse (foot on brake) and see if image now appears correct.
      • Check firmware version on the radio , should be either 8.12 or 18.12 depending on what the radio is currently running for firmware version. if not updated, make sure to update the radio firmware.

The camera should have power when the vehicle is switched on. And the camera should power off when the vehicle is switched off.
On the in dash receiver wire harness, the Purple/White Wire lets the in dash receiver know the vehicle has switched to it's reverse gear. When the in dash receiver gets this signal, it will automatically open the camera window. Do not connect the Purple/White wire to the camera. The Purple/White wire needs to be connected to the Backup light. This is what lets the in-dash receiver know that the vehicle is in it's reverse gear and the in-dash receiver will automatically open the back up camera window. When you put the vehicle in another gear, the backup light goes out and the camera window will automatically close. The camera should have power when the vehicle is switched on. And the camera should power off when the vehicle is switched off. Do not connect the Purple/White wire to the camera. I am looking at the AVH-2330NEX. I have it narrowed down to this or the Kenwood DMX7704S.
OK... So... Looks like I would have 3 or 4 touches to move from the auto-backup camera to display camera #2. 1 - To exit the backup camera. 2 - To get to the home screen. 3 - If I have a quick launch for the camera, or go to the source menu. 4 - To select camera, if I didn't have it as a quick launch button.
I am going to assume that once I put the vehicle in forward and back to reverse (as sometimes it takes a couple tries to line everything up) that I would have to do this all over again for each time?
It would be nice if they kept that camera switch icon on the screen. One touch and done.

In many installations, the Purple/White Reverse Gear wire is typically connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp or backup lamp. A change in voltage on this wire will let the in-dash receiver know the vehicle is in it's reverse gear or not. This can automatically open and close the Camera window on the in-dash receiver. It sounds like the camera does not have power or you have the camera plugged into the wrong port on back of the Pioneer receiver. Pioneer in-dash receivers are designed to work with the Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera. I don’t know about the operation of other cameras.
Be sure to plug the Brown camera output RCA into the Brown Backup Camera Input RCA Input on the back of the Pioneer in dash receiver.
The violet/white wire is used to let the in-dash receiver know that the vehicle is in reverse and to open the backup camera window on the receiver screen.
Do not connect the violet/White wire to the camera.
When you put the vehicle in it’s reverse gear, the violet/White wire should sense a change in voltage. This opens the camera window on the in-dash receiver. And closes the camera window, when the vehicle is taken out of it’s reverse gear. One possibly connection for the violet/White Reverse Gear wire is the back up lamp terminal. What I'm reading is: the in-dash receiver locks up, and can not be operated, when you put the vehicle in reverse. Even switching the vehicle off and back on does not allow the in-dash receiver to restart. The vehicle negative battery terminal must be removed to allow the in-dash receiver to restart. Is that correct? If this is correct it's possible the you have multiple wiring issues not just the Purple/White Wire. Please disconnect the Purple/White Wire until we can solve the issue. You can see more about Wiring here: th-cam.com/video/-bF3uzzaT30/w-d-xo.html Also, have you tried to reset the in-dash receiver microprocessor? You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the microprocessor reset button located on the hard key panel.

It sounds like you are using the AV input for your camera, and not the dedicated camera input. I think you have the camera plugged into the wrong input on the back of the in-dash receiver. The camera should be plugged into the Brown jack on the back of the in-dash receiver. You can see the camera input in this video: th-cam.com/video/I6n0_FqAAu4/w-d-xo.html If you have the camera plugged into the dedicated camera input, you will see a warning message on screen that says the image may appear reversed. You can see the message here: th-cam.com/video/WY0GLsC3AxE/w-d-xo.html
