Very recently to the time of filming (about one week to be exact), new alarms have been fitted to the crossing and they are considerably louder than the previous ones. Until now, the alarms for this crossing were situated inside the barrier machines and were reasonably quiet in volume. The change to externally positioned alarms, along with their considerable change in volume, has been made due to several misuse incidents here - assuming the alarms cannot be heard easily. The signaller here was very friendly and provided some information on the delayed upgrade to this crossing and closure of the signal box.
    Thanks For Watching!

The crossing's full upgrade and closure of the signal box has been delayed so this seems to be an interim upgrade to the crossing.

They sound great! Far better than 99% of other new alarms as well, and a massive improvement audibility-wise as the others weee so quiet. Great shots!

Thanks. The previous alarms were pretty quiet so nice to see a change. Any crossing with a reasonably high pedestrian footfall and moderately busy road should have loud alarms like these in my opinion.

One of them sounds like the new one that was put on the Paignton North level crossing

Car still carried on driving through 6 seconds after the amber lights came on. You’re supposed to stop.

I understand but I think ur only supposed to stop if the barriers come down, as u can see, the train took a very long time to come, but it is true, I some cases the train can come at full speed as soon as the amber lights appear or when the barriers go down.

Yeah, could've easily stopped but nope lol.

U don’t all way have to stop at amber light cause it’s like traffic light amber is warning

Nice one! I went here recently and was curious why they were on poles.

Thanks. This apparently happened a week before this video was filmed so it was very new. Too many people have been ignoring the warnings here so I guess the louder alarms is a way of reducing this happening.

@UKLevelCrossingsChannel I was thinking it would be for the upgrade as if the alarms were I'm the barriers, they would need to be taken out.

Not at the moment. I believe the resignalling project has been halted / delayed.
