On the 2nd of July 1776, the Founding Fathers made the declaration that the thirteen colonies were no longer the subjects of British rule under King George III. The thirteen colonies were now united, independent, and free of their colonial rule. The Second Continental Congress voted to approve independence by passing the Lee resolution on July 2nd. On July 4th 1776, the Second Continental Congress ratified the Declaration of Independence and established the United States of America.
