@@EytschPi42 Surely we can pull in a few favours and get them some decent XLR cables and ground lift boxes for them, looks like it's the XLR screen connecting one mains ground to another that's causing the issue there.
So that Harley in there does it run? Do they do big smoky burn outs on the stage that fills the entire establishment with rubber smoke and bits of tire? Or is that an American thing? 🛞💨?
You Sir, you are a blessing to the world of music. Even if you are just discussing the pros and cons of a pencil eraser, I know you will look at every angle of usage. Your videos all display the same level of thoroughness. Thank you, thank you.
I went through this at my house recently! I checked my electrical and realized that A) The ground coming from the room itself was loose in the electrical box B) There were commons tied to the same side as grounds, increasing the noise floor greatly. C) The connector to the grounding rod had corrosion and was loose. I was using a hum eliminator and it made it reasonable but finding the issues and being able to fix them.... don't need the Hum el or my noise gate any longer pretty much. That being said, MOST of us can't rewire a place we are going to play a gig at! I take the Hum eliminator everywhere and would recommend this as well. Killer video and it was very entertaining!!
In the case of the noisy PA I think you need to demonstrate that the two Humnos are doing anything. To me it seems more likely that the two Hum Elimininators are line isolation boxes that broke up a ground loop. Yes, there is a ground loop if multiple devices are connected to the protective earth of the mains and connect that to their signal ground. You might have had the same effect by breaking up this loop in some other way. By engaging Ground Lift buttons, where they exist. Or by using XLR adapters that don't connect the shield on both ends.
Many things can cause hum without even being connected to your rig. EMR is everywhere there is electricity. Fluorescent lights, like in that practice room, emit EMR that create noise in anything that is near it. EMR shielding is needed in all electronics.
Nice new tool for hum cancelling. Worked great on the guitar amps. I find that cleaning all PA connections with a good electronic cleaner like Deoxit D5 with an input socket brush often does wonders for hum/noise. A good cable checker device is also a priceless tool for your gig bag as well.
The history of the development of this product is just great haha also...Henning being right about something....whaaaaaa..?? 🤣🤘 earplugs were a MUST being in that room I reckon 😬
More companies need to keep innovating in noise reduction solutions (not gates, actual noise reduction). ISP's Hum Extractor + Decimator G pedal is absolutely incredible and so far no other company that I know of has matched their approach in terms of quality. The HumNo looks awesome, but I don't think my noise is due to ground loops.
Great video nice piece of gear ,good cables are worth while investment as well .Take care Henning peace bro congrats 🎉on giving Morley a great idea the 🌎 needs all the help it can get 😊✌️🍺🎸🎶
Some advice from experience. Always make sure to use quad braided XLR cables. The cheap ones can pick up RFI, and I personally fixed noise problems for someone this way. Also amp hum from leaky capacitors, tubes, output transformer near fx loop power supply wrongly stacked on amp, etc, that isn't going to be solved by Morley's three prong hum eliminators. You need a tech to fix that.
You need like 1000 of those for your place. Or for someone to completely rewire your studio. Knowing the construction process and how much sand is in your walls I’d suggest the humno, buy a case or maybe a pallet of em? ♻️🤗
That’s a 50Hz ground loop for ya. In 15+ years as a live engineer I never needed this. Sometimes with other workarounds like ground lifts on DI’s, plugging in to another outlet, not caring about it because not that loud,…
plugging equipment into different power outlets can cause ground loops. better to use only one outlet if possible and feed all power from one power bar even if it means power extension cables. and keep all audio cables away from power cables.
This is smart! I need to cancel some hum from my guitars when I'm recording in my daw using my pedalboard with the Boss IR-200 as amp. It's like my computer is disturbing the sound sometimes. Maybe Hum Eliminator could do something to help... 🤔
Congrats on Morley "falling for" and using the name and packaging you suggested! It's great to see a company go for the green option in materials and packaging.
This sounds like a "brute force eliminator" which consists of a coil in each leg of the line and capacitors across the input and output. These have been used in the ham radio world for 60 years. Sometimes they work - sometimes they don't.
I've been living in an old apartment (Altbauwohnung) for 2 years and my power lines only have 2 wires (no freaking ground) instead of the "newer" 3 wire standard. When I plugged in my entire equipment for the first time, everything was basically one giant hum. I was devastated for weeks. I even went as far as buying a Furman power conditioner. It's still there, so I will defo try this!!! Also lol you can't name it Frank - or do I look like a power cord to you??? :P
Most of these tools simply cut the ground for one of the devices thereby cutting the loop. Since you have no ground I dont think it will work. Your problem might be just that, there's no ground at all, I have a similar issue when playing my rig through headphones, while with 2 amps plugged into the same box its dead quiet. Maybe see if you can mod 1 of your power cables so you can seperately attach your ground to something like the central heating. That said, I'm no engineer so have no idea if this will solve your problem. Not having any ground is not safe anyhow.
I guess with all those active speakers lets say 2 normal 2 bass and the mixing console makes 5 different powercables and you might need 4 Humno`s to separate all of them. But if they can´t handle the load a different solution like you did with the "Humeliator" can be easier and more affordable. Looking at your studio now with how many Powercables do you have pluged in there?🤪 I hope you find a good solution to fix the issue.
Oh wow the 8 channel rack mount hum eliminator is almost cheaper than the pedal. What happened in the supply chain?? I might be able to fix the noisy di on my ampeg with this 🤔
An oversimplified explanation of a ground loop, is that having grounds in more than one part of the circuit, it becomes an antenna. Sometimes it will even pick up a radio station.
I just purchased a radial twin city aby switcher to switch from my twin reverb and my marshal jvm 410c. The moment I plugged it in the marshall had a horrible hiss!! That's what led me to this video ... will the humno correct this problem? Thanks so much
How is this different than the regular Hum Exterminator(Used to be Ebtech HumX).....only 20 buck difference and the humno is rated for 8 amps while the HumX is rated for 6. What is the difference(circuit wise)?
Definitely a useful product. Does anyone know if this is voltage specific? Meaning, if you're traveling between countries that have 110 vs 220 power source and your amp can handle both , can you just plug this in?
Is there any disclaimers on Humno use. Ie if it is just lifting the ground from the power circuit, then great care needs to be taken that at least one path to ground is maintained, or else the human being touching the gear becomes the path to ground. Ie electrocution if a short happens.
I may pick one up to test it. Ordered the Morley Hum Exterminator (plug) to test if it cancels hum in my ancient ass house. Every fucking amp hums with or without pedalboard. The Humno will not work with my reissue '96 Ampeg R12R. Why? Power cable is wired to the amp, no separate cord, hence why the wall wart Exterminator. Tired of throwing money at cables (all price points).
Our keyboard player called himself Pablo. He was from Dublin! BTW, how many of those thinks are you planning on having in your gig bag?? The keyboard player… Front house guy…
My babble fish said threshing floor, a place of separation (of noise in this case) and revelation (as in I never knew it could sound this good). Or just separating the grain from the straw.
I'm so glad you were able to demonstrate the typical condition of local venue cables and the mess they make of the sound.

Cool product. I love my Morley Bad Horsie Wah and Little Alligator Volume pedals. 🤘
My wife was saying the Morley "Hum Exterminator" is a lame name just yesterday. She said they should have called it " The Buzzkill"
If I already use a Brown Box to regulate the voltage from venue to venue, would the Humno still be useful? Or redundant?
